  • LEGO Technic, or LEGO System, is perhaps one of the most mind boggling questions. I breakdown the advantages and disadvantages of both systems, and I also give my final verdict at the end. Today we have featured: The LEGO Technic 42114, the lego technic 8043 motorized excavator, the lego technic Lamborghini sian fkp 37 42115, and many, many more

    As a person who grew up with themes like power miners, Ninjago and castle, i like the combination of technic and system. For example: the outer structure with bricks for design and inner structure with technic for stability and functions.

      I honestly love combinations too! But I haven’t seen that many system sets combined with complex technic mechanisms, like gearboxes

      same but i dont even have that many 'brick with pinholes' pecies (i have two 1*1with 1 pinhole and 1 1*2 with 1 pinhole in the midle ) but id prefer lego technic. though i do use knockoffs but hopefully one day ill make money from youtube and be able to buy lego

    Not really sure I get the point of separating the two. Ultimately every Lego piece is designed to be compatible with every other Lego piece. So what is best for all builders is to combine the two. It is why more and more System sets use Technic parts.

    • @Unbrickme
      @Unbrickme  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      well, not a lot of system builders know a lot about technic building techniques, and vice versa, the lego community is divided between the two systems

    • @Gameprojordan
      @Gameprojordan ปีที่แล้ว

      System sets have almost always used elements of technic here and there, but they're basic and simple functions (wheel attachments, helicopter rotor attachments for example). Technic sets have always used system pieces for extra detail here and there.
      The thing is they dont want to merge the two together equally. Technic based sets are much more complicated than a system set of similar piece count because of the increased functionality of the build requiring a bunch of moving parts and gears working simultaneously.
      System sets are much easier to understand and build, but have the ability to have extremely intricate detail that might be mundane to build for someone who enjoys a technic style of build where it's like an intricate machine of moving parts that have practicability
      It's a battle of two fandoms: the fans of form vs the fans of function

    I'm not sure we can call them distinct systems. I'm currently building the UCS Millennium Falcon and its entire infrastructure is Technics. In fact most Lego system builds of late would be impossible without Technics.

    With how much they overlap, I'll abstain from picking a favorite and just wonder why more sets aren't more of a 50/50 hybrid. There are tons of sets that can pull off a 95/5 split, but they don't seem to get outside that comfort zone often. Maybe it's hard to decide a recommend age for something like that.

    I didn't like Technic back in the day because of the "open" feeling of the sets, holed bricks, etc. I am enjoying Technic more nowadays even though I am not good at coming up with my own ideas for this theme. System makes it easy to just snap some bricks here and there while Technic requires some planning, understanding of basic mechanic, etc. Yes they are more suited to vehicles. What is nice though is to combine System with Technic. Say you need a functionality in your System build. You can borrow some Technic stuff for it. Everyone wins

    There is still diversity with Technique, you just got to use your imagination. The whole point of technique is giving a foundation on engines. You can still take those engines and make a submarine with it with other parts. I think Technic is some what for mature builders in their teens. You can even add programmable behaviors using python which will require basic algebra at the least.

      True but generally LEGO system sets never include complex mechanisms like gearboxes

  • @SaturnineXTS
    @SaturnineXTS ปีที่แล้ว

    The distinction between System and Technic can be compared to a humanities person vs an engineer. In Technic you mostly build functional models and mechanisms, while in System you can build pretty much everything that isn't one of those things. System lends itself much better to illustrating stories, that's probably why most Lego lines that deal with some sort of plot or conflict, are System. I think the only distinct exception to that was Bionicle, but the descendants of these have since evolved from being a Technic branch to a whole new system of Lego.

    You forgot to point out that lego technic is a much stronger way of constructing then lego system. Lego system breaks easily and therefor it's easy to lose small parts, this is especially the case with kids playing with lego system. With technic this isn't the case, cause it's a very strong way of construction (but also a pain to deconstruct lol)
