Thanks chaps ! Interesting points. There actually wasn’t a great deal of processing done to this and I liked the general slightly ominous overtones. The full image actually has some darkish tres on the left that do add some balance to the heaviness of the right but it just made the focal bright area too far to the right and it looked wrong so I croppe them out. I could have avoided the annoying overlap by moving left a bit …… but you always spot these things in retrospect and often your eye ‘separates’ far better than the sensor does so you don’t appreciate these issues at the time.
Really like these critique video's, so helpful in making me improve my photography & editing skills. Looking forward to the next lot of video's. Great addition to your TH-cam output. Keep up the good work guys.
I really like what Alister did with the right side of the photo. I noticed how dark it was right away and thought it looked unnatural. Adam's idea of cropping it was good as well. However, even though I agree with his assessment of the area on the left I wouldn't crop it out as I think it took away from the airy, open feel of the overall shot. It's very interesting seeing the difference in your perceptions. Gorgeous image.
This is a great idea to have two accomplished photographers critique the same image and see the differences in their thoughts about it. I hope it continues as I got a lot from both Adam's and Alister's commentary.
Many thanks to both of you. I think it‘s a helpful kind of feedback to show 2 different angels. It does fit well to your concepts of „do what YOU like!“ There‘s no truth, just (very helpful) hints to think about and integrate the feedback or to drop it. Very encouraging and strength orientated as well. To be continued…
Enjoying this series. Especially due to the two perspectives from both critics. I agreed with Alister on it being too dark/heavy on the right. The fix was an amazing result and surprisingly easy to do. I am generally left handed, so the left leaning trees don’t bother me at all- interesting that I don’t find that threatening whatsoever and that is also educational. Adam’s issue with the over lapping branch and trunk: I see the point and while I noticed it right away, it seemed to me to be less of an issue. Now that it was pointed out, I find myself wondering if it should bug me more? Great food for thought on a splendid image with lessons I can apply to my own work.
Great idea, these critiques give a lot of tips on shooting and editing! One thing that would be cool is, if you could just show the picture for a few seconds before talking and overlaying it with text. Excited for the next episode!
I suggested you could do some critique when you asked about future of the premium content of your channel, so I am more than happy that my wish came true, Adam. Thanks :)
Very weird that the image can feel more threatening as shot vs mirrored horizontally, would love a video about that and talking about left vs right in photos. I've heard people say compositionally it's sometimes better to place a subject on the bottom right side or top left side (might be misremembering).
interesting to see the difference in contrast between screens,or meaby its just the camera recording the screens thats make the difference , really a lovely photo, but dont like the darkening on the right side, and maby little bit to much contrast on the" main tree" regarding dark and brighter tones ,thats my opinion
Up until this point images have been submitted through Alister’s channel. However, I have offered submissions through my members section. Unfortunately we have way more images to review than time can allow.
A real pleasure to be doing these, we’ve had some fun with them so far. Amazing images and a pleasure to look at.
Most definitely
I hope you keep dong your crits. They are so valuable and I think one of the best ways to learn. Thanks
Glad you're doing these again, they're valuable for more insights to tuck away in the brain.

Glad to hear that!
I just love in depth image critique, and it's even more educational with two very good photographer's on the same photo. Thanks to both very much! 🙏
I really enjoy watching these critiques. Always something to learn, even if the images aren’t our own. Thanks for doing these. :)

Very helpful and informative - interesting in the opposing views of the 'dark area'
Good critiques!

Agre with Allister's adjustment on the right... the only concern for me too

Can you work on a jpeg that I (we) have already "finished) and how do we get the image to you?
At this time we have a lot of images to go through but will put a call out when/if we need more, thanks!
Sorry if I missed it, but how do we submit a photo for critique?
You can email them to epcritiques@gmail.com

Darkening right side is terrible approach. It looks unnatural.
oh well you win some you lose some
