Devonshire would have won more England caps and gone to 1986 World Cup, if it wasn't for that terrible foul in the F.A. Cup versus Wigan. Never the same after that!
Why did Ron Greenwood not experiment with Devonshire on the left of the English Midfield and say Tony Morley on the right between say 1980-82 prior to Spain WC?
Went to this game. Many more in the ground than official attendance. As a gullible 14 year old we bought tickets off a tout in the car park for face value. Got in the kop no problem after watching numerous scousers climbing over the turnstiles. Was a good game and as leeds fans we didn't care who won. It's the nearest we'd ever get to Wembley.
Was at this match as a 13 year old Leeds season ticket holder. Remember a few hours before the start playing footbal near my house and a MK1 Cortina parked up with West Ham fans, doors opened and loads of beer cans falling on the floor! Then they had a kick about with us for about half an hour... brilliant stuff. I wanted West Ham to win anyway but it was surreal to see the kop explode at Everton's goal as a Leeds fan.
Great performance and to all those saying we only brought 8000....get a grip. We had far more support than that, we had one of the best away followings in the country in the 80s. You only have to look at the video to see the stand on the side packed with West Ham.
Elland Road should have staged much more semi-finals. For one thing it was a safe ground for spectators, even back then, & a hell of a lot safer than Hillsborough, a regular venue for semi-finals.
