I have really been enjoying these bulb planting videos! As far as the question of why you’re able to pack more bulbs in containers, from my understanding it’s because in the soil they are more likely to naturalize and spread, so it’s good to leave extra room for that. Can’t wait to see your blooms in the spring!💗

Lovely flowers, and their pattern is so distinctive. Do you know where the name comes from? And what does "fritillary" mean in terms of the plant?
    Lovely video.

Good question, both the Latin and common names are bursting with imagery and information! The genus Fritillaria comes from the Latin fritillus which refers to dice cups and dice boxes used in ancient Rome that were decorated with a similar chequered pattern. The specific epithet or second part of the Latin name meleagris means spotted like a guineafowl 😂 again referring to the pattern. The common name snake's head most likely refers to the snake-like shape created by the nodding Bell flowers combined with the very erect stem. So cool! 😍

Will these bloom the first year planted?

    • @balconiagarden

Yes, provided the bulbs are good quality, healthy etc. 😊

Will the snake's head fritillaries rebloom year after year in a pot (if suitably fertilized), or, like some bulbs, should they be transplanted outdoors after they bloom once?

Hello Helena, I've found that all my bulbs I've left in pots including the snake heads have come back year after year providing I give them proper care all year round. My experience of growing plants and how they perform is often different to what the books say one should do so I always recommend trying things out, experimenting a little and seeing what happens 😀

I bought full plants in The Range and the seeds they came out of are at the top :s confusing

Hi Jay, bulbs propagate 2 ways, by growing baby bulbs or bulblets that are attached to the mother bulb and also by producing seed pods from the flower. If you have seeds that's sign of a healthy plant! You could sow them and have more Fritillary in the years to come 🙂
