Adding to what you said, just as a quote from him, he doesn't know THAT MUCH music theory, but he's one of the first to ever admit that he "alters" scales he knows by adding notes that sound good to him within that scale, so that, I think, is greatly responsible for Marty's awesome playing... He truly is a wonderful guitarist, and I give him credit above many others just because of the fact I pointed out, it just makes him unique
This is a killer and exotic improvisation of heavy metal style !! Marty one the best guitarrist all the time , her style is amazing !!! This is a moster !!! Thanks for video !!!
Totally different styles. Eric Johnson couldn't write to metal like Marty and Marty could never write a song like Manhatten or Cliffs of dover. Even though I benifited strongly from both players style Marty to me was the hardest to immulate. Hanger 18 (Full version), Tornado of souls, and some of the Cacophony tunes are some of the greatest and most unique solos and writing for lead guitar. In my opinion.
Brian Auer imho Eric Johnson are for schools and teachers. Eric's material suitable for learning. While Marty, simply it's art, you can't emulate the artist
@Guitarist2095 There are several Japanese scale variants which are all pentatonic scale-types. Marty often use the natural minor scale with no 4th degree. In A minor = A,B,C,E,F
I've been playing a long time and Marty still kills my will to learn guitar :) You always have to keep practicing to be able to even get near playing like Marty.
above anything else people, its his musicality, not his fingers. he is simply in sync with his emotions. not many people throughout history can do that. favORites..!
i gotta tell you guys...i just went from watching kirks guitar solos to this video...and the gap in skills between these two guys is astounding...marty is so freaking nice
I am always looking for a guitarist or band that will rendition a classic hit and then they will improvise it..change the lead solos and change some song structure. This is one of the example.Briliant
Sounds very exotic, I think this is what you need when you bored or do to much improvised solo's on pentatonics or minor/major scales. I helps you look differently on music.
When you improvise you play with the notes in the key and land on the root note on time, and that's basically all there is to it. But doing it like this takes alot of practice and certain licks stick in your memory from any previous playing, which can be used. There's a reason he was in Megadeth!
Heavy but still so emotional and melodic. Only Marty Friedman
0:51 - 0:52 Marty's Signature Descending Pattern Detected
love that shit
I love how Marty uses the weirdest Scales to create the coolest Solos..
i love the "Marty friedman scale" ;D
Tornado of Souls becomes all the more impressive when you learn that it too, was an improvised solo.
Marty is on the top tier of top tier guitarists. Only maybe fifty other people in history could ever compete with him.
hes got the most original and unique solos ever. blues and exotic and classical in one guitarist amazing!
1:21-1:31 awesome buildup and resolution.
Marty is a master!
0:45 oh my fucking god thats amazing
Check out 0:00 - 1:52
Martys note choices rule!!!!
Friedman, mustaine, Poland, and kindof young are all so unique players!!
He really squeezes those notes!!!
he is the master of bends and vibrato....
He makes a very particoular sound at 1:22, really amazing!
He's got an "I'm on drugs, don't piss me off" look. Very few people can pull that off and still look awesomely cool.
I remember I used to watch this a lot in high school and eventually learned the solo. Forgot it now lol

i like marty's modal shifts when the rhythm player modulates to the dominant key
0:58 that is the BEST lick ive heard in my entire life
of all the youtube videos of marty, something about this one brings me back more than the others. Love this solo
Forget technique, the level of phrasing in that solo, especially over such a pedestrian chord vamp, is astonishing.....
This is a killer and exotic improvisation of heavy metal style !! Marty one the best guitarrist all the time , her style is amazing !!! This is a moster !!! Thanks for video !!!
My attemps of being a guitar player have officially concluded after watching this.
Give's me goosebumps everytime I listen to this...no matter how many times I hit the replay butttoon!!!!

This is a masterpiece solo! Marty's is the best!
his playing is awesome.
The friedman scale, which is everything you might possibly imagine!
Marty just looks so badass at the end lol.
people dont understand how creative he really is, he uses scales like hungarian minor over a metal setting. he also makes his own scales
love the way he holds his pick right in he palm of his hand..or so it looks
Cacaphony was BRILLIANT stuff - Marty's best work for sure. IMO some of the greatest guitar recordings of ALL TIME.

I like how he can mix heavy metal with blues to form one awsome solo
I've been playing a long time and Marty still kills my will to learn guitar :)
You always have to keep practicing to be able to even get near playing like Marty.

haha! I love Marty's face at the very end.
hahahaha i love it at 1:21 when the camera dude can't even follow his pure epic guitar playing
marty's scale is simple, sounds badass and melodic

When you connect with what they're playing, when their playing really translates into raw emotion.
@2012Romney his solos are so mind blowing he blows his own mind sometimes
This guy rocks !
yeah, i agree with you man, that was very well said
Searched heavy metal solo in youtube and my favorite guitar player is the first result. Coincidence? I dont think so.
Everyone know this!!!! u can always tell its him he has the most exotic and evil sound out there and plus his pic hand is awsome
I am always looking for a guitarist or band that will rendition a classic hit and then they will improvise it..change the lead solos and change some song structure.
This is one of the example.Briliant
Legend!
I like his look at the end. It's like, "Yeah bitch, I just played that."
@fragrenade1 Yeah man, true shit. Marty has a really heavy, yet exotic sound that will always be remembered in Megadeth.
Marty has his own thing going , kinda mixes it up and makes his unigue style.
long live marty friedman!!!!!!!!
The awesome scale.
He doesn't really stay in one scale, that's why it sounds so unique and good.
This shredding has soul!!!
Great solo
