Totally UNFAIR comparison! That Husa didn't have a chance. During the shooting of this video, the Husa needed main bearings replaced twice, and went through three sets of valves. The Dizzer just needed gas.
Doug Burgoyne hehe, you must be referring to earlier bergs doug. these 70 degree engines are building something of a legendary reputation for reliability. mind you the DRZs are as bullet proof, if not more so, in many respects. :-)
SGP and the gang could very-well be the best dual sport motorcyclists on TH-cam. "Mediocre riders"?!? I guess that makes me a complete noob! You guys are unbelievably good!
I've ridden many different bikes over the years and currently own a 2005 drz400s (with a few upgrades) and it has been hands down the best dual sport I have ever had. The things bullet proof. And another thing to consider if you are looking for a dual sport is the DRZ400 is the most modifiable bike on the market. They make everything for these bike.
the main known issues with the 70 degree bergs were dodgy fuel pumps in earlier models, and also the fuel filter screens were too fine. once those were sorted they were incredibly reliable bikes.
IT490, KTM 640 LC4 Enduro, KTM 525 EXC....and finally a very clean 09 DRZ400E. Gotta say apart from the LC4 the DRZ is overall my fave so far because of it's set and forget nature. The 525 would obviously eat it in outright speed but for trail riding there was little opportunity to actually use it to potential. Maybe I'm just getting old...who knows?
You telling me an Enduro pro who normally rides a 2014 Beta RR300 could do just as good, or pretty damn close, on an Apollo 250 with shitty bolts, a sketchy ass throttle, abd barely working suspension. Stfu. Having a decent bike is far more than just 10 percent.
+XPWNZERX lol id bet they would still do awesome. Luckily they know bikes and they would fix the little things they could. Look at what they can do on downhill bikes these days. Some guy won a huge race by taking his chain off. No way to power it except momentum and perfect technique.
+XPWNZERX yeah, the down hill mountain bikes. But the technique is similar. The lack of power doesn't slow a pro down. There's guys that would roast most of us even if they just had a scooter off road lol
I've always liked those 70° husas..just can't afford one ..can find 2 DRZs for the cost of 1 husa..so between that and parts n after market avail.well no brainer.
Weight, power, geometry and tyres, coupled with the riders skill. In the end it comes down to personal preference. Basically motorbikes are chainsaws with a gearbox and wheels.
thanks eveRide, but on that track we call the rollercoaster the fast guys actually jump the top and land down in the ruts on the other side. so just rating ourselves as average compared to the talent around these here parts. :-)
well I've never owned a Husaberg I'm a KTM guy but I have owned Suzuki DRZ which are bullet proof ! And I know the Husaberg are good but have heard of them having problems & they were a race bike not a trail bike.
i just don't know what to say about the conclusion :-(. even considering not liking the vid… but great trails and good work. on road one of these bikes has much more legs and is better balanced, and off road that same bike is still better balanced and has much better suspension, they both have cam chain tensioner issues that are easily modded away, unfortunately the one that has ratted better inmy rant had poor head lights on the early 70°models. am i biased probably but the fe450 is capable of 200kph, sorry whats that yellow spec in my mirror?
Hadrian Haine...Yeah and as long as you change your oil every 300k's your bike should last at least 5,500 k's till she needs a rebuild! Just magic hey? 😂🤣
I'm a dr650 rider my boss offered me his drz400 for 1000bux but I said no I'm picking up a husaberg fe570 on Friday for 6k instead drz is awsome but something abt the 570 70 degrees motor gets my donger hard
the berg has 10,000 miles up so far. valves haven't moved, no engine work, just oil changes and running perfectly. the 70 degree bergs are known for not needing rebuilds for ages normally. i know a guy with an FE390 and 30,000 miles, no engine work as yet.
clearly the superior bike! This historically perfect, flawless, videographic documentation shall go into the DirtBikeBible as Canon, and all who reject it shall be burned at the stake as Witches and Blasphemers!!! It is written, So it shall be. Such A Terrific Intellectually Refreshing Excerpt!!! he he
Having owned both, I got rid of my slug and kept the Berg. Simples...it does everything (much much) better and doesn't run out of gear on the road either. DRZ is a great all round bike, but master of none.
i think that says it all. Farm bike. Make no mistake the DRZ is a good solid workman like bike, but it is completely outclassed by the berg. It's apples and oranges - having owned both I should know. You, not. BTW, I abuse the heck out of my Berg in a way that the you just can't on a stock DRZ with it's dated frame, ponderous supension and antiquated mill will never let you. Enjoy your DRZ, if it's right for you, then that's perfect. I just don't believe in brand loyalty - I ride what I like.
even the older bergs pre 70° engine will piss all over a drz, and it doesn't have to be the big boy 4stroke 570&650, the fe 450 is hands down a spotter bike i don't know of drz's capable of 200kph on the beach races, and at 109kg i love my 08 fe450 as a true dual sports rocket, but i also think the te's would out punch the drz. as of 2013 unfortunately they are just blue ktm's :-(. husabergs are so well suspended and balanced they just seem to find traction where even the xr's can't and are lighter and far more powerful, ride on brother berg rider!
true... to some extent jason. i know a few guys were clocking up big mileage on their 570s using them as adventure bikes and for everyday riding they were getting a lot miles with no engine work needed. the only weak point was the countershaft splines wore down in some cases with lots of road miles so some of us were fitting cush drive hubs.
ADVENTURE OZ Interesting, on Vancouver Island Canada they don't seem to last. But that could be due to the kind of rider or lack of rider, who purchased them Cheers, and rubber side down bud!!
Pears Dudezki why thank you. and just to make it an even more unfair comparison i've been riding about 15 years longer than nick on his DRZ. :-) he's very good for less than ten dirt rides experience when this was filmed.
Since you've been riding so long maybe you can help me out. I have a 400cc Ninja and want a supermoto now. Will I get bored fast with the drz? Ideally I would want some 500cc and up but I don't have tonnes of money to spend. Any suggestions ?
tricky one pears. i've never been into speed or power much so had a ball on the DRZ400SM. but if you want speed then any ktm 450 to a 530 will get the heart rate going and a possible need to wear diapers. :-) i'd strongly advise a cush drive hub though which makes a wheel set expensive....
I'm content on the power of my 400, so a DRZ isn't out of the question. It will mostly be used as a commuter bike for school and work, but I also enjoy trail rides and wheelies.
+Kyle Malone of course, i've always said it's at least 80% rider skill and 20% the bike and we are only very average riders. i reckon you could put a top rider on a road bike and he'd whip are arses on most terrain.
+ADVENTURE OZ more like making shit up/Trolling!
SGP and the gang could very-well be the best dual sport motorcyclists on TH-cam. "Mediocre riders"?!? I guess that makes me a complete noob! You guys are unbelievably good!
i grease his disc pads when he's not looking so it goes faster downhills at least.
2-3 weeks and I get my DRZ 400. Can't wait!
Would have also been nice to see how they compare for road use and short distance commuting.
Love your videos, have now traded my road bike for a KLX400R (rebadged DRZ400E) in part due to your amazing videos. Inspired me to go play in the mud.
OnTwoWheels cool, i've had all three DRZ models and they are great all rounders!
Awesome video, I've got a 400E and love trail riding with it.
They're porky but they're also real comfy.
the main known issues with the 70 degree bergs were dodgy fuel pumps in earlier models, and also the fuel filter screens were too fine. once those were sorted they were incredibly reliable bikes.
I just bought one 570 2009 model... Suggestion to solve the known fuel pump and fuel filter issue would be appreciated
Maybe I'm just getting old...who knows?
lol love all your vids man. old and new...
+LostEmpires thanks, we have a ball putting them together. :)
Dirt bike success is 90% rider and only 10% bike.

Look at what they can do on downhill bikes these days. Some guy won a huge race by taking his chain off. No way to power it except momentum and perfect technique.
Taylor St. Pierre Sure youre not talking about MTB?
+XPWNZERX yeah, the down hill mountain bikes. But the technique is similar.
The lack of power doesn't slow a pro down. There's guys that would roast most of us even if they just had a scooter off road lol
Taylor St. Pierre Dude. A mountain bike weighs
Thats a bloody great Vid! We ride all those trails at times!! Some great lines confidently taken in that vid!
tempted to agree, but wondering why i've owned three DRZs and only one berg to date....
Definitely more than enough tracks to keep one entertained at Glasshouse ;)
It’s so weird that during filming the go pro dosnt bounce around niether the guys helmet on the Husa!! Weired
I've always liked those 70° husas..just can't afford one ..can find 2 DRZs for the cost of 1 husa..so between that and parts n after market avail.well no brainer.
Drz any day
Weight, power, geometry and tyres, coupled with the riders skill. In the end it comes down to personal preference. Basically motorbikes are chainsaws with a gearbox and wheels.
'chainsaws with Gearboxs' is what they used to be 30years ago!
bike like Late Husbergs and Kms are a Quantum Leap better!
Ase Morton...Fun fact..."quantum leap" actually means seriously minor...Research it!
your going to want the flat slide race carb on the Z perks it up Ya hoo...
nice trails!
This is in Australia, and just like here in NZ, the drz400E (FCR carb model) is road legal and plentiful :-)
thanks eveRide, but on that track we call the rollercoaster the fast guys actually jump the top and land down in the ruts on the other side. so just rating ourselves as average compared to the talent around these here parts. :-)
well I've never owned a Husaberg I'm a KTM guy but I have owned Suzuki DRZ which are bullet proof ! And I know the Husaberg are good but have heard of them having problems & they were a race bike not a trail bike.
the husaberg has a plastic subframe... why would you ever take that thing offroad?
The slug left a slippery trail behind water filled pants 😆😅😂🤣
Unfair! The DRZ was laden with that 10 gallon fuel cell!
i just don't know what to say about the conclusion :-(. even considering not liking the vid…
but great trails and good work. on road one of these bikes has much more legs and is better balanced, and off road that same bike is still better balanced and has much better suspension, they both have cam chain tensioner issues that are easily modded away, unfortunately the one that has ratted better inmy rant had poor head lights on the early 70°models. am i biased probably but the fe450 is capable of 200kph, sorry whats that yellow spec in my mirror?

Would have to be born again ... to learn to do that
Good video, a greeting
Medel
Nice riding fella!
I'm a dr650 rider my boss offered me his drz400 for 1000bux but I said no I'm picking up a husaberg fe570 on Friday for 6k instead drz is awsome but something abt the 570 70 degrees motor gets my donger hard
Nice riding fellas! These tracks wouldn't happen to be north of Brisbane by chance?
+DontPanic AU more around the border with nsw
Wow great comparison. The DRZ is the clear winner. That hussy didn't stand a chance.
and the DRZ is perfect towing broken down hussies too lol
the berg has 10,000 miles up so far. valves haven't moved, no engine work, just oil changes and running perfectly. the 70 degree bergs are known for not needing rebuilds for ages normally. i know a guy with an FE390 and 30,000 miles, no engine work as yet.
Dose the DR-Z still have a stock exhaust?
yes
+ADVENTURE OZ Moddded at all?
Nice vid. I enjoyed that.
What size fuel tank is on the dzr400?
+mark b not sure mark, around 12L i think?
+ADVENTURE OZ so at least a 250km range?
i think its about 9.5 - 10L
Wish I had tracks like that
clearly the superior bike! This historically perfect, flawless, videographic documentation shall go into the DirtBikeBible as Canon, and all who reject it shall be burned at the stake as Witches and Blasphemers!!! It is written, So it shall be.
Such A Terrific Intellectually Refreshing Excerpt!!! he he
65elcamino283 satire indeed lol!
secretgardenproject :-)
Haha great video! Of course the DRZ is the winner!
Drz.......trust my life with it
I understand the satire but most of the issues are rider inexperience and low RPMs.
Charles OConnor yep, well spotted!
I liked the video none the less ;)
Here's the best answer ;) I own one Berg and have owned zero DRZs ;)
So we are broken down in Baja and we need parts. ... Hmmm.
DRZ all the way
Right!?
Are those underpants well filled at the front or the back.lol
Bruce Mcmurtrie er, in my case at the back most of the time and mainly after steep downhills, big jumps or log hops. :-)
Having owned both, I got rid of my slug and kept the Berg. Simples...it does everything (much much) better and doesn't run out of gear on the road either. DRZ is a great all round bike, but master of none.
try using your berg as a dedicated farm bike.. then you will see what the drz does better and has mastered.. bergs are way over priced
i think that says it all. Farm bike. Make no mistake the DRZ is a good solid workman like bike, but it is completely outclassed by the berg. It's apples and oranges - having owned both I should know. I concur!
Agreed.
drz 400 e equals value rock solid bikes they do everything i need
The yellow slug is a better bike... By far :)
yellow slug will still be going strong as we lie the berg to sleep
Made me snort, spit out my coffee you nut!
You forgot one major component, there is more Suzuki dealership four parts then the Husky has ! LOL LOL LOL
It's unfortunate that the DRZ requires a big ugly extended gas tank just to go off roading.
The only thing that can beat the tank drz400 is the legendary xr400
amen
That big difference is the drz will out last the fe570 ... the fe570 will be a Chinese car one day ...lol
true... to some extent jason. i know a few guys were clocking up big mileage on their 570s using them as adventure bikes and for everyday riding they were getting a lot miles with no engine work needed. the only weak point was the countershaft splines wore down in some cases with lots of road miles so some of us were fitting cush drive hubs.
ADVENTURE OZ

Cheers, and rubber side down bud!!
Super !!!!!!!!!
Vlad Ukraine !!!
that DRZ will go for a least 10,000 miles will the Husaberg?
no doubt about it the drz is just better ;)
better rider on the berg
Pears Dudezki why thank you. and just to make it an even more unfair comparison i've been riding about 15 years longer than nick on his DRZ. :-) he's very good for less than ten dirt rides experience when this was filmed.

strange review man
Husaberg all the way! B-)
I know guys that will beat you guys on a KLR
+Kyle Malone of course, i've always said it's at least 80% rider skill and 20% the bike and we are only very average riders. i reckon you could put a top rider on a road bike and he'd whip are arses on most terrain.
+secretgardenproject true i agree must say i love my drz sm bikes a blast.... like your vid though
“Well filled” from feces or balls?
the former in my case 😂
hahaha your videos kill me
