- Following on from part 1 of my Moscow apartment tour • RUSSIAN APARTMENT TOUR... of today I'm going to show you around the inside of the apartment. Our landlords are interior designers so the whole place is designed by them (with a few additional things added by us). I really love living in Moscow and the style of the apartment. I hope you enjoyed seeing a glimpse inside a British expat's life in Moscow.

What about double doors. Until 1990s in any flat had just a single door like everywhere all over the world. But after Soviet Union fall, the crime level was increased dramatically and most people have installed additional secured metall door. Doors wasn't just replaced because first metall doors was cheap and had no any warm or sound isolation and in addition had quite ugly look. Nowadays it become not so actual, but tradition of double doors in old houses remains. In new houses you can see only one single door.
No it's a protection from cold
Hey, I have never had ants of cockroaches, but I strongly recommend that when you buy stuff from certain shops, like rice, herbs cake mix, cereal etc, that you stick them in the freezer first, especially with cheaper shops like перекресток. I had little food moths which came with something from that cupboard, and basically I ended up throwing lots of stuff away. Always look for little holes on packaging etc. Oh it may be worth buying those plastic containers which are airtight.
I have only had cockroaches in a Tenerife hotel and ants in a Cyprus Villa. :) good luck
The ants seem to only be attracted to things with sugar and bread so we only keep those in the fridge. Thankfully they don't touch rice, herbs, cereal, etc but thanks for the suggestion
I love the hand painted parquet flooring! I also really like the dramatic brutalist architecture of the soviet blocks from your balcony - that blue tint really adds to the austere effect!

So interesting to see what your apartment is like! I moved to Moscow to teach English back in October and my apartment is completely different but it’s cozy for just me! 😊 (which I also did an apartment tour of lol) Hope you enjoy your time in Moscow!

Ant must be everywhere on the planet. We get them every spring in our rural area where the nearest neighbor is 1/2 mile away. I'm amazed they'd be in a high floor of an apartment. Smart little buggers.

When I lived abroad we kept all opened foods in sealed containers or the fridge. I’m told ants pose no hygiene threat so I never killed them I just used preventative measures.

Thank you for showing us around! What an odd arrangment to have other people's belongings or former belongings in your living space. I do like the arrangment of lavatory and bathroom being seperate; a bathroom that really is a bath room. How and why did we in the west ever move away from that efficent, sensible arrangement? I've become intrigued with big, densely populated apartment buildings that I've seen in You Tube videos. Kat, do you find that people are neighborly and that they are a community in their buildings? Here in the U.S. I live in a small apartment complex of efficiency/bedsitter apartments and one-bedroom apartments, most of which are around a courtyard but people seem to do very little interacting with one another. In the ten years I've lived here I've only known the names of two my next-door neighbors and there have been quite a few as this is a college town with high turnover of residents.

I enjoyed the apartment tour. I do have a question though, the extra books and child’s toys are you able to give them away or is that frowned upon?
You should leave your dirty shoes between first and second door, that is one of the reasons why its there. The space between first and second door is a mud room. Also it is used as a storage area for bulky outside things: muddy big boots, skies, sleigh, bicycle.
It that apartment no place for dirty shoes and stuff between doors. It's acceptable if there enough room. In this case I think the second door helps to save heat, also less noise inside and provide more security.
I didn't see any dishes or pots and pans. Where do you keep that?

To get rid of Ant's put out some artificial sweeteners like Saccharine and let them get at it... it's a great ant killer and environmentally safe.

How much rbls per month? which area of Moscow is that? I would like to know because I would travel to Moscow for several months and it is more than enough room for me
Man! The only reason I’d move there is for the conservative vibe USA and UK have changed a lot. Was it hard to immigrate to this country I heard there really strict on who they let in.

If it’s any consolation we’ve had ants in a beautiful country club apartment in Rancho Mirage, California. Paying a lot of money to share our space with ants - not fun. We always had to make sure to store bread and pastries in the fridge. Booooo :(
I like your boots. They look warm and dry. I don't know why it's so hard to find boots like that in the US. I had one pair of boots and I wore them for 20 years. And they started leaking and I put galoshes over them. I'm not kidding. I'm sorry about your ants But I'm glad you don't have roaches. We had those once. They were awful! Now I live in Florida and we have the gigantic ones that fly. But we don't see them very often. Not like the small ones. One time I was in an apartment with four other girls and one bathroom. And it was just one bathroom. It wasn't divided like that. So that was fun. I don't know how we did it. Now I live in a house with my roommate and my brother and I have my own bathroom and they have the other one. Except sometimes my roommate doesn't open the bathroom door when he leaves so my brother thinks that he is in there and he uses my bathroom instead. And you know how men don't put the seat down... But at least he's quiet. Honestly you never know he's there. He could give you a heart attack if you turn around and you notice that he's somewhere because he's so quiet. And the ducks live outdoors.

how much is rent for your apartment in Moscow ? In brooklyn NY i pay $ 2350 american dollars and that does come with parking and a beautiful view of all of manhatten and the statue of liberty
Wow that's insane! Rent in Russia is extremely cheap compared to that (but salaries are VERY low). Moscow is the most expensive place to rent in Russia, you can find apartments from approx $300 - $1,000 per month. I suppose that renting such an apartment on the edge of Moscow (1 bedroom and one living room) would cost about $450-550.
@@katya.fromengland What about salaries, it varies but Moscow is a big city so there is really big money, too. In general, the higher salaries are in IT, finance, oil and gas. Senior positions are pretty comparable with ones in London. I also know a girl who was offered $6000/mo several years ago for being a nanny of the kids of some wealthy people. The job was like a week of living with the family and a free week after, traveling with the family included. They had two nannies - the former was an English native speaker, the latter was a Spanish native speaker as the parents wanted to teach the kids to speak both global languages from childhood. Everyone is entitled to their own personality. And no women from any nationality needs to cater to men's expactations...
Would also like to point out culture and politics play a big part on this, Russia is very conservative and misogynistic. The goverment even decriminalized some types of domestic violence. Even tho gender violence and domestic violence are considered an epidemic in Russia.

all Russians live differently. Many live in separate houses in the countryside. And almost all Russians have an apartment in the city and a house with a plot of land in the countryside.
But this is a nice city apartment. But it needs renovation and new furniture. But this apartment is located in a building with thick walls made of brick or reinforced concrete. There is centralized heating and hot water supply.
And these apartments were given to people free of charge during the Soviet era. These apartments are of different sizes: 2-3-4-5-6-room apartments.
In addition, there are always many shops, a school, a kindergarten, etc. near the house.
About 60% of this biggest country is a permafrost. Do you know what it's meaning? Try to build a town where temperatures minus 50-60 Celsius with frosted soil even in summer, try to build thousands kilometres railway in snow desert and then speaks. Russian do it.

Haha it may sound strange but it works for us because the bread stays fresher for longer :) We always toast our bread so it doesn't matter that it's a little cold
моя бабушка хлеб в холодильнике хранит) А вообще, вот где я только не жил, и в пансионате с клопами, и в частном доме - никогда на кухне не видел муравьев. Тараканы - да, особенно в старых советских домах с плохими влажными подвалами. Клопы бывает - в пансионатах и общагах, где контингент чаще всего не очень живет. Но муравьи...

У нас в панельном доме с советских времен живут .
Если ее это беспокоит , нужно дихлофосом в вытяжном шкафу хорошо обработать .
Пару , тройку раз и они исчезнут .
А хлеб нужно в холодильнике держать , иначе он плесневеет .
в холодильнике прохладно и темно, хлеб хранится намного дольше. всё она правильно делает. плюс черствый хлеб намного лучше усваивается и переваривается, чем мягкий. поэтому хранить в холодильнике хлеб более чем целесообразно. девочка - умничка. с муравьями легко справится, очень много химии против них, но есть куча проверенных и эффективных народных средств, надо просто посмотреть в сети. полно видео с хорошими советами.
Я тоже храню хлеб в холодильнике теперь из-за плесени. Не так много его ем и заметил, что если не уберать в холодильник, то достаточно быстро плесень появляется, если хранить просто в пакете.

A lot of the apartments were built during the soviet Russia period, so a lot of the design and structure would look very dated, it’s also really uncommon for housing in Russia to come unfurnished so they have to keep the land lords furniture and prior renters stuff in the house/apartment.

You are more fortunate than much of the world if you have a roof over your head, food in your belly, clean water to drink, good health and other comforts that you probably take for granted. What did you mean by basic apartment? Size, interior, furniture, equipment? This particular apartment is for rent, and definitely nobody taking good care of it. However, I can tell you, while this apartment is in old generation of buildings, the quality of construction and materials are better than average apartment in New York.
