I'd go for the Tiger. It has got to be the prettiest middleweight sports tourer in recent memory.

I would go for the tiger 660: more wind protection, the fuel tank is bigger, and it can be added the topcase. The trident is a very good-looking bike, but it is not practical.

As a American who has owned numerous bikes for over 40 years I can’t believe the times we are in. The bikes made are just incredible and you guys across the pond are really putting up some awesome designs. Triumph is just killing it right now. The design, the quality, the feeling etc all home runs.

This is the last gasp of the combustion engine so they better give up their best. Your next one is gonna be a electric me thinks........Enjoy while it lasts

    •  2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

@@fozz5722 I'm 100% for electrics but the motorcycle transition is going to take longer, simply because batteries are harder to fit on such small vehicles. You need to make more compromises on a bike. That said, strictly urban bikes could become electric sooner!

@ Considering we have had electrics since the 70's and we still haven't switched makes me understand why you think the change is in the distant future. The oil companies can't fight it anymore, our nation's security counts on it. That being said I hate tree huggers!!!!! lol

I bought the trident, as I do back road blatting, green landing and stuff, not highways so much. My speed is 40-50-60, as I like all those sweeping roads. Traded in my street twin, after 3yrs (good bike), but wanted something lighter and more revvy! Having a blast. You pick a bike that suits your life style.

I bought a Trident last year but the Tiger Sport wasn't out yet, which is good because it would have made my decision much harder to make. I love my Trident, but the features of the Tiger Sport would probably fit my riding style better. However, I do prefer the looks of the Trident over the Tiger Sport. It's a very tough call to make, both great bikes and you just have to figure out which one works for you

  • @stillman94

I have a trident, absolutely amazing bike, my first big bike, really good for gaining experience on and also really rewarding now I have riden it for nearly a year, I am 6"2, 20 stone, so I am a bit tucked up but have riden 160 miles without stopping, on one tank of fuel, and handled it okay, a little stiff after but that's to be expected on most bikes, definitely wouldn't avoid it, amazing fun even if your taller and heavier, but after all that I will be moving to the tiger 660, fantastic bike to ride, not a huge amount more room but enough to allow more blood flow to the legs, the wind protection is good but the hand guards are a must for me, the windscreen deflects the wind straight onto your hands, both bikes are amazing, if your 6" and over the trident is a tiny bit small but still worth trying

Bought Trident as first bike last year, installed Evotech levers (perfect quality but install carefully, rear brake light button is easy to break), Givi big windshield (didn't help much as I hoped) Very happy with the bike, still riding in rain mode enough power. Now I would undoubtedly buy a Sport or a Tiger 850.

I have a Trident, and traded a Yamaha FJ-09 (aka Tracer 900) for it. While I love Sport Touring bikes, if you don’t need the extra range and/or suspension travel for long, bumpy highways, then the extra weight isn’t really worth it. I found that I wasn’t using my Sport Touring bike as a sport tourer, and really wanted a sporty, urban commuter and canyon carver. The Trident is excellent for this. I will say that I wish both bikes had adjustable front suspension, though the Trident feels very buttoned down.

I really wanted a Trident, love the styling. But at just over 6' the riding position didn't work. The tiger isn't as good looking imo but with my height it's pretty much a tall "Adventure" styled bike or a big cruiser with forward pegs.

Thx 4 the comparison, Bob! I had the Tridey same time as you & straight away got the seat upholstered, grab-bars, heated grips & the tankrucksack on it since i needed it to be all-weather for work as a M'bike instructor down here in 🇨🇭. It worked well but hat some snitches in idling mode. Average l/100 km: 4.4 all in all. I'd had it for about 14500 k's (~9000mls) & decided to trade it in for the Tiger Sport 660, knowing the drive chain, frame & brakes were going to be ok. Mine's going to be fully-spec, arriving beginning of April. So in the meantime enjoying & using my learner-friendly A2 Ducati Nightshirt, er, - shift. Bless & have a good start into your riding seasons y'all.

I like the new studio Bob! Test rode the Trident 660 and loved the performance of the motor, but a naked bike is not my cup o’ tea. The Tiger Sport 660 is a brilliant use of the basic bike and make it more versatile. Cruise Control would be a welcome addition for touring. Wish they could design a center stand because when on a big ride (2,000-3,000 Mi.) the hassle to do chain clean and lube. I’m a Triumph fan boy and my 2016 Tiger 1200XRT and 2017 Trophy SE have been flawless. All the best from snowy Wisconsin.

I bought the Tiger (from Phil at Fowlers) and unfortunately dropped it whilst stationary in traffic within a week. I have 28" inside leg so found i a bit too tall as standard and couldn't flat foot it. I got the low seat for about half price on ebay and that for me makes a world of difference. I do totally love the bike tho. I grew up with classics in the 80s and currently am fixing up a '78 T140 OIF Bonnie for summer jollies. The Tiger feels like a futuristic spaceship by comparison, she's a real beaut!

Well i am 5 ft 9 too and been riding a few bikes :) since 1971. I found that 835 is uncomfortably high for me - great whilst moving but too many risks in slow city work or in strnage places on holiday . So 820mm max seat height - anything more is unecessary and pointless.

I also would like some wind protection at hwy speed because the Trident has none. I do like the styling of the Trident better but since the price gap is fairly small, the benefits outweigh the negs with the Tiger. Wish they would do more with the colour options for the Tiger.

Irrespective of whether I use the benefits/features of Tiger, I’ll pick Tiger over Trident because I don’t like Trident’s looks..

I also would have loved to buy a Trident but at 6ft 1 it did feel small and I looked big on it at the shop. I am not sure why triumph made it this comically small. I guess my other options realistically is either a street triple or a yamaha xsr900.

I am contemplating either this 660 or the 850 Sport, but have yet to test ride either.
Both look good - the 660 is handsome while the 850 has a more rugged look. So, neither has the upperhand over the other. Both bikes are okay for my height.
Which do you reckon is the easier handling and has better and more flexible throttle response? Which seat is more comfy? Is the 850's hot air to the knees/legs and handle bar vibration manageable or quite pronounced?

Ill take the Trident please ! I really like the gas tank side pads, reminds me of some of the 1960's tank pads to squeeze with your knees, grip the bike with hands, knees, and muscle it around easier, ride more aggressively and easier, if you want to. Plus it doesn't have a Damned useless beak under the headlight like so many now a days, and which serve no purpose !!! What the F##k !!! They irritate me as to why add more money to a bike to make it look like what, for what ???
I would take every Triumph made right now ! Or up until 2020, the ones still made in the UK, stamped, Made in the UK !!! Maybe the Indian built ones are great also, but time will tell. Same with BSA.

As I was reading some of the comments left , It seems that some of us that are buying Triumph motorcycle 🏍 are only waiting a couple of weeks from the day they order a new bike to finally having it delivered.
My problem is that, living in South of France 🇫🇷, I ordered mine in the beginning of January and the dealership here in Nice can only promise me that it’s gonna be available in the middle of May…😟
It’s my second motorcycle that i by from Triumph in one year ans it’s also the second time that they make me wait that long…
I find this very annoying and not really efficient for a such well known brand.
They’re lucky, I’m not a japanese or a German motorcycle fan because otherwise, they would have lost my interest.
I know it was not the subject but i just wanted to say that if in England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 you don’t have to wait too long, then you are very fortunate.
    ✌🏼

Hi Motobob. I ve a simple question. Does Tiger 660 has the same throttle lag or late what ever...like the Trident? Thanks for answer in advance.

    • @motobob
      @motobob  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Throttle feels the same to me having ridden them both back to back. Personally don’t find the lag situation too bad at all - only way is to demo and find out for yourself 👍

I want the Tiger 660 but I’m so damn short 😫. I’m 5’1” so ergonomics are about the most important feature of any motorcycle, along with price. I can fit the BMW F750GS with the extra low seat and/or the low chassis version, but 💵💵💵😮. With the low seat option (if it’s not back ordered like the one for the Tiger 900 🙁) it might be all right since it’s a lighter weight bike. One foot down with a butt scoot might be OK with a lighter bike such as the Tiger 660. If it gets a few degrees past center I can perhaps stop it with one leg 😂 I need to sit on one in the coming days. Any suggestions Triumph fan boy/girl community? Other than the lower seat, are there options to lower the Tiger 660 1-2 inches for a short guy like me? I can’t seem to find any online for that particular bike.
