Toyota has gone backward with newer Runners. My 2005 Sport Edition has the 4.7L V8 with 270HP and 330LBS FT of torque which gives it a 7000LB Tow Rating. All that and it still gives me 22mpg on the highway with full time 4WD. It moves pretty good for a 4400lb truck but what Toyota should have offered as a option on the new Runner is the 5.7L. 380HP and 400LBS FT of Torque!Now that would be a improved 4Runner!
What is the big deal with the towing issue ? Honestly how many 4runners did you see that where actually towing something ? You wanna tow ? Then you may wanna get into a Tundra...
The most off-road capable 4Runners, the Trail and TRD Pro, don't offer the 3rd Row Bench. The hood scoop that does not feed air into the engine and the faux skid plate in front are kinda of cheezy.
Less talk about paint and headlights and more talk about cargo space. I'm particularly interested in how flat things fold, whether there are gaps left, depending on the options etc. On a lot of 3 seat versions (Honda Pilot) when you fold the second row of seats you might as well not bother. I want a big flat space. You kind of brushed by the ins and outs of that.
I really wanted to buy a 4Runner, but the outdated motor turned me away. I needed to have more towing capacity, so I went with the GC which can tow 7200 w/ 4x4 hemi or ecodiesel.

Next time you review a truck, dress like a guy who would drive a truck. Put on some jeans and t-shirt...and leave the pleated khakis and dress shirt at home. Geez man.
