I’m currently working on my collection from Joy Toy. Thanks for this review. Soft goods are usually hit or miss but Joy Toy does a great job with clothing.

For me it really depends on how cloth goods are implemented. I for one quite like a bit of a mixed media approach as it can be pretty visually interesting. I would prefer fabric goods only being used where they are necessary, like certain capes, and wouldn't want them to be a stand-in for sculpted detail, but if that's the aesthetic they're going for, such as in the case of this figure, I'm perfectly fine with that.

In terms of cloth, it depends entirely on the line of figures, or their overall design. The Tomorrow Kings line from Ashley Wood are done of my favorites with soft goods.

I did not expect a review on JoyToy.

The figure isn't anything I'd particularly want but it looks great! Reminds me if Rei from Evangelion dyed her hair green and became a contract killer or something haha. I do like certain of the softer figures and own a few of the phicen ones which are great for customizing characters who don't have figures. Cloth clothes I think are great on certain figures if done right but mostly prefer plastic

I wasn't expecting a figure like this. Hope you get more random figures to review. Its cool to see more unique figures instead of the big name companies. I collect comic/ animation figures and I think plastic captures those looks way better than cloth. Cloth looks bad in general too imo

Joytoy does put out some solid releases, wish you could review their Roboute Guilliman and upcoming Lion El'Jonson and Rogal Dorn.

Really into their Warhammer 40k line, but they are admittedly a bit pricey depending on the figure and do occasionally have annoying QC issues.

That jacket, gun, gloves and shoes combination looks really nice.

Soft goods on figures is highly dependent on the figures to me. Some of the mezco stuff like Atticus Doom are beautiful but there are issues depending on the scale. The 1/6 figures I have that are clothed are some of my favorite figures I own but some of my 1/12 soft goods figures can look wonky as hell unless they’re posed just right.

depends on the company...sometimes soft goods are ok. I have a figure that has one of those squishy bodies with a metal skeleton with some really good soft goods and tons of accessories. Seance Era Cerberus its called.

I dont prefer cloth clothes mostly. If its a coat or jacket i am perfect fine with it but not so much shirt and pants most of the time.

  • @jonfranks9953

the jacket alone makes it a dope fig... might pick it up

  • @rapidoodsdoodles

For the soft goods? Hmm.. Cape or Jacket its good according to my experience or Maybe a Marvel Legends Dr. Doom with fully custom clothing just make the figure so good and can even par on Mafex figures. But I don't want my action figures to look like a doll.. so yeah it's optional and it depends on the base of the figure like Dr. Doom from marvel legends.

Awesome to see you do Joytoy products! I mainly collect their 1/18 stuff. I believe Frontline Chaos is a popular game in Asia. I wish Joytoy did some soft goods for their 40k stuff. Thanks for the review 💀

I didn’t even know JoyToy did this scale, I thought it was all 1/18. Coll to see, but I feel the same about cloth goods.

I like 1/6 scale cloth figures like ThreeZero/Hot Toys, but anything smaller tends to get chonky.

I think clothes only work with bigger figures (1/6, 12 inch figures) aside from that it looks pretty bad on smaller figures, and it's not the same in terms of articulation because clothing restricts articulation most of the time.

When it comes to clothed figures, I cherry pick when they’re done well. For example the recent Mezco Superman was great, but their Batmen which look like they’re wearing a thick wet suit is a hard pass. The Patriot Studios unofficial figures are great, but the Beast Kingdom stuff is disappointing. The Best is NECA’s because they’re $35/$40 and the soft goods lay on the figures pretty good at the price.

Depends on the figure, for example, bleach line would be way better

  • @romesrepublic

I'm on the fence with clothes figures. Some look amazing. But very few companies make them in a way that doesn't greatly impede the articulation. That's my main issue with it.

I own this figure. Normaly i check your reviews first. I like the Sniper Lady. Now i wish Sun Wukong from Nottaa for the unknown future.

  • @sik7476

It looks pretty good... but I'm with you, not a fan of soft goods and for the same reason, scale. The only time I really like soft goods on a figure are capes, when they're done well. Plastic capes are kind of a pain in the buttocks, when it comes to posing. Sik

I love soft goods. Don't know why, but something in my brain gravitates towards figures with them.

Question of the day: I like cloth goods but not on all my figures.
I heard good thing of Joy Toy's Warhammer40k line, I'm not 1/18 collector but their stuff is really nice, for sure it's eye candy for WH40K fans.

Not a big fan of clothing on 1/12
But a fabric loincloth and a cape can take a figure to a next level. For example Mafex supermen, mezco Conan

Not the biggest fan of clothed figures but I don't hate them either. I can tolerate them if It's a figure of a character I want that doesn't exist elsewhere or is the best version of that character. I collect Dasin model figures and those are clothed figures. Their Inuyasha is great btw

If it's a cape or coat/jacket/vest, I prefer soft goods. Pants, shirts, etc. I prefer plastic.

Looks well done. I too prefer plastic, but can appreciate a cloth coat from time to time. This is probably their generic Dolls/Girls Frontline offering.

"I just want to see the articulation" LOL. Cloth on figures is starting to grow on me, if its done right it looks cool. I have a bunch of JoyToys 4 inch Warhammer and Military SciFi stuff and have not been dissapointed by them.

  • @AlphaProto

I'm not a fan of clothed figures. They are pretty much dolls.
I have started to get an interest in wired fabric capes. That has progressed into me thinking of getting 1/12th jackets.
Hopefully things don't progress past that. I would have to imagine myself dressing an action figure.

Absolutely loathe the vast majority of soft goods at this scale because the stitching and the way the cloth flows gives away the scale. Plamo and minipainting have drilled into my gorilla brain that everything has to be in scale with each other to sell the illusion of the artwork, so when I see soft goods that clearly give away the game, I cringe hard. A lot of the fittings are so baggy and oversized that they even make the cool characters look like the poorly-dressed dorks that stand out in parties specifically for being poorly dressed. Soft goods only seem to look good on 1/12 if they're from some highly skilled indie artisan, or boutiques on the bleeding-edge like VTOYS. This one looks off too.
Also wish they sent you a 40k Dreadnought. That'd be another interesting review.

Not my style and I don’t want to go down joy toy rabbit hole they are too expensive
