Instruments in order of appearance: -Duduk -hurdy-gurdy -shawm -another shawm probably a bass -tenor shawm ? (i guess they just have the whole consort by now) -rackett -crumhorns -Nyckelharpa (accompagned by the harp) -portative organ + recorder
Thank you so much for this! There is this adventure game called dungeons&dragons, and one of the 'gods' plays a shawm. One of my players has chosen this 'god' to follow in game, and now i can let him hear this! IIt is my part/role in the game to tell the story he will encounter and music is a verry good way to translate .Much thanks to you for putting this on the youtube!!
Ha, I'm running a Sorcerer who through Shenanigans has acquired both Prestidigitation and Thaumaturgy, so he can have 3 sustained instrument sounds and 3 "clips" of about a couple measures (6 seconds, or one action) running at once. I'mma put on a ghostly orchestra!
They should introduce each instrument before playing them. We don't know what they are! The sounds are haunting because they suggest what will come later, the way the instruments were refined. These sounds have not disappeared, because when you hear them you think: that's kind of like an oboe (or a violin or a pipe organ).
Thank you all for this wonderful lesson on ancient instruments. God bless you for showing others your knowledge. Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Hi I based in the uk , can you please tell me name these two play under, I did have their website but seem to have forgotten the links to how I found them
thank you to the talented folks who put forth this video! I love medieval instruments, especially the hurdy gurdy (which I discovered the name of about five minutes ago)
It's a Moraharpa, simpler version of the modern Nyckelharpa. It is supposed to be played in a horizontal fashion (like a regular nyckelharpa) unlike in this video so gravity can pull back the keys.
Probably the combo of slightly kazoo like sounds for the wind instruments and a minor key for some of the music. As cool as I think the instruments are I can see what you're saying, it has a bit of a "game over" or "losing sound effect" feel at times.
its weird how almost all of these instruments have asian counterparts that very much resemble these instruments.. For example the Guan en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guan_(instrument) really makes me wonder where the reed mouthpiece originated
they must throw the best house parties lol
Any party is great when there's a hurdy-gurdy involved
I can't remember any house parties... But I've been told I was definitely there... :)
I'd honestly have a blast going to a party with a bunch of different instruments.
Only royalty allowed.

@@ButsJeroen "i guess they just have the whole consort by now" accurate, hahaa!
Thank you frustrating that they didn’t name them so we would learn what they were.
Instruments in the Middle Ages sounded awesome.
Can't you add video notes to name the various instruments ?? So frustrating otherwise.
@Doradanis

I'm totally not here to pick an instrument for my bard... Totally.

I wish I had all of these. I love the way the nyckelharpa, especially, sounds and plays. What is the instrument played at 3:22?
It's a bass rauschpfeife
Fascinating but useless without names
@GothicSkulz
A duduk, or a tsungi horn for those who have watched The Last Airbender ;)
Dafoodmaster I KNEW IT, I KNEW I HEARD IT BEFORE THANK YOU SOO MUCH!!!
no problem!

Who is the maker of the soprano shawm? I'm trying to find one, but I haven't been that successful.
Thank you all for this wonderful lesson on ancient instruments. God bless you for showing others your knowledge.
Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Can you do weird things!? THat's what SHE said!
"Are there any weird things you can do with this instrument?" I'm sure there are plenty!
Some serious talent on show here. Loved the Nyckelharpa especially.
duduk
There was no curtal played.
they missed off the whoopie cushion!!!
Very good!!!
Hi I based in the uk , can you please tell me name these two play under, I did have their website but seem to have forgotten the links to how I found them
Awesome playing! The duduk is not medieval though, its ANCIENT! :)
What instrument she's begin play?
Anybody recognizes the melody from 05:07?
Should rename this "The Making of the Witcher 3 Soundtrack"
The duduk sounded really dry , the others were perfect
thank you to the talented folks who put forth this video! I love medieval instruments, especially the hurdy gurdy (which I discovered the name of about five minutes ago)
What instruments did you play at 3:05?
It's a Rauschpfeife.
@@CrossCuntryFranco This sounds softer like a Cornamuse?
check out armenian duduk playing its much softer and less noisy
@raelilico1 Instruments were used in an original composition not on You Tube.
Are there any albums I can find that sound like this?
I wish you had told the names before you played them
Fascinating!
I've never seen a bowed and keyed instrument before. It almost looks like a crankless hurdy-gurdy... What's it called? I'm intrigued.
Wonderful to see all of these instruments! Thanks for sharing!
They had 808s in the middle ages lmao? 2:38
The neighbours must love these guys!
Which instrument is at 3:50, please? It sounds magical combining with harp ;)
Why aren't all my neighbors like this? I had a bagpipe band family as neighbors as a kid. Now, people give me weird looks over an accordion.
There’s nothing weird about accordions. I used to flat with a brilliant accordion player. They are so versatile
lovin me some shawm shawlm me more!!!
What is the name of the player?
Que hermoso ver amigos que aman los instrumentos antiguos. Los felicito!!💜💜💜
what are all the instruments called?
What's the weird farty one at 2:30?
Whats the instrument at 3:35
It is a Nykal harper.
Most marvelous! Thank you for sharing!

Duduk
Thank you for posting this. It made my day!
I like the noises he makes on the rackett
Is the duduk a single-reed instrument, or a double-reed instrument? Thank you.
Double reed I believe
in the back there is that a Cristofori piano?
did you people know "ring around the rosy" was a medieval song thats about dead bodies being burnt by the black death plague
OMG, medieval music was a total nightmare.
At 3:34, what is that song?
I want to meet that man
nice video sound
So cool!
very nice
what song is being played on the nyckelharpa?
James Mowry it's a tune from finland called Emma or Emmas waltz
A nyckelharpa
What is the instrument at 3:40?
It's a Nyckelharpa, a Swedish instrument related to the hurdy-gurdy
It's a Moraharpa, simpler version of the modern Nyckelharpa. It is supposed to be played in a horizontal fashion (like a regular nyckelharpa) unlike in this video so gravity can pull back the keys.
no offense but they sound depressing.
what blank? But, that's what it be to you, not some objective fact.
Probably the combo of slightly kazoo like sounds for the wind instruments and a minor key for some of the music. As cool as I think the instruments are I can see what you're saying, it has a bit of a "game over" or "losing sound effect" feel at times.
This is the kind of music i don't show to the bros

For example the Guan

really makes me wonder where the reed mouthpiece originated
also the Sheng:
