I started with watches, then shoes, then I found this channel, and through Rafael I learned of Bernhard Roetzel and bought his book in Dubai. It's wonderful the linkages thanks to the internet.
Growing up in tracksuits now I'm 19 trying to become a gentlemen, all my friends continue to wear trainers and tracksuits...you really do stand out if you make the effort
Thanks so much for another truly inspiring interview as you spoke with Mr. Roetzel he talked about and express so many things that I personally enjoy and feel about men's fashion such as having a "passion" and it sort of being a hobby he also mention a gentlemen he knows who still has clothing items from the 60's 70's that are still very fashionable today I too have suits and neckties from that same era and whenever I wear them people do comment on have nice they look.I found the fact that he plays the guitar interesting as well it shows he has a since of style that really goes beyond the clothes he has on his back and also how he enjoys spending his free time with his wife and children dining at home with close friend shows that he tries to maintain a certain balance in his life all-in-all an excellent interview thanks for the video.
I remember picking up his Gentleman's Guide to Grooming and Style in the bargain section of Barnes and Noble back in like 1999. It has been a huge influence on my taste and style. Timeless. thank you.
I would like to see Rafael explore more the topic of what it means to be a gentleman, beyond just what kind of clothes to wear. I know he has already done a few videos like this, but I'd like to see more. I realize it's not exactly the raison d'être of this channel, but I do believe it has relevance, and can help a lot of men really represent the clothes they are wearing. This is something I started to think about a lot after reading Bernhard's book: why am I dressing this way? He talks about clothes as a business card to open doors, a great concept. I am trying to remind myself more often, thanks to my dress, on how I should act to everyone around me. I'm just not a patient person, and I get too angry at terrible service. Anger and impatience are not hallmarks of a gentleman, and hopefully i can better remind myself of that thanks to how I dress myself. It's a process, it doesn't happen overnight... I'd also love to see more videos shot in Europe. I think that would be very relevant to his American viewers. If he is ever in Prague (or Dubai), I would be happy to help in any way I can. Prague is not exactly a fashion capital, too Central European (grays, blacks). But some on-site reporting from London, Paris, Milan... And exploring the interesting differences between American and European fashion.
Really enjoyed that - Herr Roetzel seems not only to have a great knowledge and feeling for men's style, but balances that with the realities of modern life.
As a follow up to my last comment, I would definitely be willing to contribute 100 USD to a kickstarter campaign to send Rafael and his wife to Europe for a summer to meet fashionistas, do interviews, visit relevant vendors, etc., or just hang out in cafes and go to the opera. I think it would be super relevant and fascinating to many of his viewers, especially in the US. They are welcome to stay at my house outside of Prague if they visit the Czech Republic to keep costs down. I'm sure he has many friends in Germany and throughout Europe who could do the same. So while 3-4 weeks in Europe could be super expensive, there are ways to cut costs. And the entire experience - a gentleman tours Europe - would be fascinating.
Thank you so much for you fantastic channel and for this wonderful interview. I'm sure you have many women viewers like myself who love men to be a gentleman and dress like a gentleman. My father is the one who started my obsession. As a young girl I would travel with him to tailors to get custom suits and shirts made. And he had an alterations tailor. My father was handsome and had great style. My husband s very handsome with great style and I encourage him and his style. Please confirm educating - You are performing a great service.
We've come across a number of women who are interested in classic menswear, but it just keeps getting interesting. Kudos to your father and to all the gentlemen like him. We hope to continue inspiring others. Have a happy weekend!
Vielen Dank, Raphael. Watching your interview will make reading Herr Roetzel's book even more interesting. I learned of it thanks to you and have just received it.
Also, I tried to find a way to buy some Eduard Meier shoes online, but came up empty-handed (besides a couple used pairs that wouldn't fit on eBay). Do you know of a way to order them in the USA? Thank you!
Hi, Happy New Year! I have always wondered how military men always have a perfect haircut, the closest shave I have ever seen, shined shoes, perfectly pressed uniform that is perfectly tailored, perfect posture, and in great shape. Can you tell us please so we can try to emulate the look in society? How often does hair need to be cut to keep it like a military man? Once per week? Twice per week? How can one get a shave as close as a military man each day? I can get such a shave, but only if I let my facial hair grow a few days in between. How can you do it each day? Are military men taught special grooming? Are you issued special shaving equipment? How do us average guys keep our clothes so perfect? I don’t even have my clothes looking as nice after a trip to the dry cleaner as a military man. And, even after dry cleaning and press my suits wrinkle fairly quickly in one day. I would love to have a better look, crisper and cleaner like military. Please share any information you can to help us. Thank you!!!
Hello, Raphael. In your article on Morning dress (www.morningdressguide.com/), you write about historical ascots, which have an interlining and no pleats. A plastron, as you called it. Are you aware of anywhere a gentlemen could acquire one, that isn't cheap, or pretied?
It is very funny to hear and see two Germans speak English to each other
