About 27 minutes in, Stephen already figuring out two of the roles incidentally before Justin is just *chef's kiss.*
Okay, I have to say that the intros are getting better. But then again, Justin is just really good at doing intros. Maybe Justin should just do them or coach the other three on how to make a compelling intro story.
This was the best episode of the season so far, and the most enjoyable in my memory. Great work, everyone.
This game was so long but so absolutely hilarious, that perfectly well timed f*** from Steven sending John over the edge, despite the fact that Justin didn't guess all of the hidden roles, he's still somehow played his hand fantastically to come back from four life and win.
I'm a big fan of using the tools at your disposal and politicking is definitely one of the biggest aspects of commander, I'm fairly sure that if Steven had been playing to win he would have just let John kill Justin, although I'm not sure if he could have taken down Jeremy in that case...
Correct me if I am wrong please: Stephen can't cast Teferi's Protection in the middle of the Mind Raker trigger. He has to respond before Jeremy chooses to move a card from exile. In addition even if he could cast it AFTER Jeremy chose to place the Plains into the graveyard, Teferi's Protection only covers him being targeted and attacked, it does not protect his hand or library from non targeted effects. Mind Raker doesn't target an opponent and it doesn't target a specific card. IF it were legal for someone to interrupt a May trigger after making the choices and decided to somehow make the chosen card an illegal target by moving the zone prematurely Jeremy would legally be able to choose a different card because Jeremy never has to declare a target. Mind Raker would force Stephen to discard no matter what regardless of when Teferi's Protection was cast that turn.
One can not respond to the resolution of a spell after it's effects start casting. The same goes for casting while drawing a card. Triggers after the spell has resolved can be responded to however.
As much as I miss the preamble banter i feel like the intro is perfect for the current situation. In discord you end up talking over each other and interrupting. When they are able to get together in person again I hope they bring back the preamble.

1:54:50 Teferi's Protection doesnt stop Stephen from discarding as it's an "each opponent" effect, even if he has protection from everything. Just like protection from white doesnt stop wrath of god.

The best argument for banning Mindslaver has nothing to do with its fairness, and everything to do with how upset the target gets.
It's a game, you've gotta be able to control your emotions. People don't want to play with someone who's gonna freak out at you while you're playing your deck. The only cards that should be banned are the power nine and lotus. Cards that have such a high price, that a 12 year old kid couldn't afford to build it. Financial gatekeeping doesn't belong in a kids game. Mind slaver can be dealt with single target interaction or entire battlefield removal effects. Can it be used in a degenerate, gnarly combo to lock people out of the game? Yes it can, as well as many other cards out there that synergize and lock people out/combo off to victory. In closing, if it's you and your buddies sitting down to play a fun casual game, bring it up with them I guess? When I play my Mono black Skittles/Infect deck or my Atraxa Infect deck or my Sliver Queen deck, I ask my friends if it's alright. If I'm going to a tournament, what ever deck building/game play strategy a player is using I have to respect it and let them play it. Not whine about how unfun it is, or the card should be banned, or that's the only reason they won was that card. It's all random and luck, with just a bit of skill that wins games. I have learned way more about this game when I've lost vs. when I've won. I really don't like banning cards, I respect the rules commission and their decisions to do so, it's just the worst feeling in the world to invest money into a deck and have some of the most expensive cards in the deck get banned. It's a horrible feeling losing money that way. If they never ban another card, I would be very content with that decision. There are talking points that are merits from both sides of this ban a card vs. don't ban a card argument. Just remember no one likes a poor sport, pouting and being salty is a really sad look for anybody. Flipside, don't gloat and rub it in people's faces and tell them they suck or their deck sucks. I've seen things like this in our MTG community and they really don't belong there.

So Justin takes his turn, wipes his board... and Jeremy spends the rest of the game all butt-hurt that Justin did what he said he would. Lol
He does get frustrated kinda easy since he feels like he gets picked on more then anyone.

I definitely see this as a sign of what you should and should not be playing if your intention is for all players to have fun probably not Sen triplets and mindslaver. I don't think Justin is a bad guy he just chose the best strategy for his secret role but everyone was mad at him the whole game.

Justin tapped Brimaz with Prismatic Strands, but it has Lightning greaves equipped which gives it shroud so he couldn't be targeted right?

I've been getting a lot of hate for supporting a card I think can be good but others think it is always bad. The card is Temple of the False God. I know, it can sometimes be a dead card, but I feel like in a land heavy deck it makes perfect sense. If someone is playing a land heavy deck and they get Mana screwed because of Temple of the False God it probably means they did not Mulligan properly right? Like, if you run 37+ lands and you don't have 5 by turn 5 you should have not kept your opening hand. I've been playing commander since 2014 and Temple of the False God has almost never failed me. Maybe I'm just good at mulliganing around it. What do you guys think?
I think your point is correct but your logic is flawed you should treat temple of the false god as a land. Instead it should be treated as a spell so if you have 38 lands with temple you should have 39 that way if you have only 3 lands and a temple well that temple would have been a spell and you would still be mana screwed

phase out means you don't exist, so he not considered an opponent
@@treyjohnson5210 Only his permanents phase out. The player gains protection from everything. But as Mind Raker doesn't target the player for the discard and deals with cards that are exiled.

Until your next turn, your life total can't change and you have protection from everything. All permanents you control phase out. (While they're phased out, they're treated as though they don't exist. They phase in before you untap during your untap step.)

No where in the text for Teferi's Protection text does it say that you phase out.
Yeah. I'm more and more thinking people assume Teferi's Protection makes you and everything you own phase out.
It doesn't protect your hand, your library, your graveyard, etc., but I've had more than one interaction where someone thought it would save them.

As someone who plays almost exclusively theft decks, i feel for Justin in that his deck produces an over abundance of salt which just makes some people get very wound up and start to throw tantrums and such.

Extortion/blackmail is pretty tilting, yes. Justin was trying so hard to get his role that he was willing to ruin Jeremy's game.

17:22 Jeremy should have scried there with the path of ancestry, his commander shares a creature type with his commander obviously :D I feel like many ppl miss that when reading the card, it's really good and often better than a temple when it comes to scry triggers per game even if your commander is the only creature in the entire deck.
Yeah it’s a great land on its own but incidentally will scry I have a Thrasios and tymna deck and it surprises me how much I scry with it

I always enjoy these episodes, the hidden roles in the past have sometimes been completely unrealistic to the level where the player hasnt tried to do them but everyone gave a good effort here. I cant help but give a wee bit of feedback here though, and feel obliged to as I love the channel and have watched every episode at least once. However, this season there's just an undertone of negativity, not sure if its just from you guys not being in the office together, but theres not as much joy this season, a bit more complaining than previous seasons.
Yeah this negativity this season is the most I ever seen. Episode 2 (I believe) was miserable to watch.
i have also watched all episodes at least once but i have to say i did not notice more negativity this season compared to any other. especially today it seemed like good natured fun and banter all around

before game comment: i really like hidden roles, but i feel "figure out other peoples" should just be a general rule for this episode. and that the roles should be more specific and impactful, so that guessing them isnt impossible

Personally I prefer the previous intro. Normally when I want a summary I just watch the end of the previous episode to get a gist of what happened.
Anyone else ever watch these and just come to the conclusion that Justin is "that guy" at the game table? Like, makes threats at the table and then tries to say he's the good guy.

Jereey prematurely revealed his role - When Steven teferi protectioned, he did not have to put his basic land into the graveyard from exile, so Jeremy only had 3.
The cards in stephens graveyard and exile zone did not phase out, and thus could be targeted

That's because it's a POS way to play the game tbh. I understand they are just cards but reading the situation and understanding that playing with your "friends" (coworkers too in this case) is not about ruining their experience. The same goes for a full counterspell deck, I'd rather not even play with the person.

If you include cards in your deck you have to be willing to play them, otherwise you shouldn't include them in the first place.
