I don't see anybody talking about her deathhawk and telling her that's what natives did... i don't see u guys hating on the boho style that mocks gypsy tradition.. i see you wearing polish flower crowns.. i see you wearing romanian blouses... what is the problem with the hair? can't you dutch braid if you're french? can't you frenchbraid if you're dutch? can't you wear the irish quilt print on your clothes? can't you shave your hair because you mock buddhists? can't you go on a vegetarian diet because you mock indians? can't you eat sushi because you're making fun of japanese? can't you use chopsticks? can't you eat tacos or beans because you mock mexicans? can't you own a husky because eskimos will get mad? can't you eat pizza or pasta? COME ON PEOPLE. BEFORE ANYTHING WE'RE HUMAN . WE'RE EQUAL. As a romanian i know how it is like to be treated for less than you are. i know how it is to be oppressed.. I think we should let history go. it's saddly to late to change the mistakes the conquerers and explorers made
It's not that it originally belonged to another culture. It's that people of the culture who it originally belonged to are mocked and discriminated against for having this hairstyle.
The oppression of black people was and is far greater than most ethnicities, it's a much bigger problem. Black hair is so different from the majority of ethnicities, the management of it is a massive part of black culture, so when it's used to be different or to rebel its offensive because it's something done to be more normal or make life less hard or to lessen the discrimination. That's what cultural appropriation is, using it to be different which to her is positive but many see dreads negatively when it's a black tradition
This is literally the BEST explanation of what I've been trying to tell people. As long as she isn't actually bashing whoever started this hairstyle, it can't be offensive.
Everyone seriously needs to shut up with this *"cultural appropriation" BS*. Because she's not African American, she can't wear dreads?? I'm African American myself and my hair was chemically straight for almost all of my life... and I have never had to hear Europeans and Asians get offended by me for "mimicking/adopting" their hair. You know why?? Because that starts irrelevant conflict and hate. Your hair is bomb, girl. Wear it with pride because *you don't have to be Black to wear dreads*.
Sorry sweetheart but you should be sure to read up on your history . Saying this isn't going to help you become one of them or whatever it is that you're trying to do! Keep in mind that no one is hating ! No one's saying it doesn't look good ! It's just more than a hairstyle and deserves to be respected.
+Sel Bel straight hair is a physical trait, its not a apart of anyones cuture. Dreads literally are part of a culture, specifically the rastafarian one.
For those talking about cultural appropriation I would suggest doing some history lessons. It has been prove that Germanic tribes, Celts, Romans, Greeks, even Vikings wore them. All through out history many different cultures have had natural and some form of artificial dreads.
I dont understand why this girl is getting so much flack for having dreads? Anyone watch FunforLouis? He has had dreads for years, and I dont think Ive seen a single word about his dreads other than support from his subscribers. I dont see what the big deal is,..hair is hair, no matter how you want to wear yours. I think they look amazing and looks really good on her. :)
Not every white person who decides to get dreads is a racist, or appropriating anything. Dread locks are not assigned to one specific race. If you do not brush your hair it will knot and form a dread. I did a lot of research on this topic because I want dreads, but it was brought to my attention that it was appropriation. I asked close friends of mine (not white friends) my uncle and some people I know via the interwebz. I received a lot of different feedback. At the end of the day I decided that me getting dreads was a good option for me (still waiting to do so). There is a huge difference between tossing on black face and taking the time to put in dreads.
Marisol Garza I don't get it. Like that isn't ignorant at all. Getting a hairstyle that's important and has meaning just for fun or just for fashion is cultural appropriation .
Okay I feel the need to comment this. She isn't spitting on anyone's culture for wanting to wear her hair like this. Is she openly talking bad about the culture? Is she insulting anyone for being a part of that culture? No, she's just wearing HER hair the way that SHE wants to. Also, there is no such thing as reverse racism. Racism itself refers to prejudice towards ANY race, not just the black race. Please don't reply harshly to my comment, I will not reply due to the fact that I don't enjoy taking part in pointless comment wars like the ones I've seen further down in the comment section.
All this bullshit about cultural appropriation is really getting out of hand. I'm pretty sure the picts from Scotland had dreadlocks in their hair (this was from 600-900 AD I believe) Also I don't get pissed off when non Scots wear tartan. Whats wrong with people finding other traditions attractive?
Learn the real definition of a dreadlocks.... Dreads naturally occur when black curly hair interlock together. Anyone of European decent could never have dreadlocks they could have greasy loose twist but never dreads....
Just putting this out there for all those "cultural appropriation" a-holes. For HUNDREDS to THOUSANDS of years Indians, Inca Waris, certain Asian cultures, Nordics, Celts, and several Native American tribes all wore dreads. It is not and never has been exclusively a "black culture" thing. Get over it.
Naomi Bryant Ummm..... Nordics and Celts are of caucasian decent. So yes they did have dreads for hundreds of years. Also assuming someone's genetic heritage by the way they look is inappropriate. We need not be bigots by judging someone by the color of their skin. Naomi let the true beauty of your love for all people shine through instead of a hatred that can make anyone look ugly.
+Yaya Sorensen Blacks had them FIRST! Even in ancient times BEFORE Christ which is more than 100's or 1000's of years! Plus white people dreads look like SHIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are nappy, knotted and never uniformed like blacks. Sometimes it pays to have "kinky" hair!
+Misssophisticated 1- Such "sophisticated" nonsense coming out of your head. No blacks did not have them first. The Neanderthal's did. Obviously your a sad misguided lady with a lot of anger and hatred. Too bad........makes the soul ugly.
Good job don't let the negatives get to you. Hair is hair no matter the race. It is an expression of yourself and personal growth. Everything is borrowed from other cultures it's how we learn. Keep up the good work and stay positive.
Not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but for people arguing that this is cultural appropriation, couldn't that apply to many hairstyles? For example braids, buns, mohawks, etc. I've seen popular African American, White, and Hispanic TH-camrs with faux hawks and no one seems to make an issue of that being part of Native American culture. I don't claim to know the culture significance of dreadlocks but I'm pretty sure everyone has been guilty of "cultural appropriation" whether they were aware of it or not. To be honest, it's a sad day when people make issues out of things that can't be stopped. The world is a global community. More and more cultures are being mixed together, it is inevitable.
I'm glad you as a white person, or whatever non black and white passing person you are, can telle, a black person, how to feel about my culture. Sorry but I can't get offended for the Native Americans but I can stand with them if they feel offended instead of bringing up other cultures appropriated and dismiss their voice as complaining about something all too common. Why? Because it's their culture and they can rightfully feel offended. Btw how do I turn off notifications for just this vid.
+VisualsByJae I'm Hispanic. People appropriate my culture all the time but it doesn't bother me. I'm sorry if you got offended, wasn't my intention. I could never claim to know how you feel. There is a way to stop the notifications but I don't recall how it's done. A quick google search should provide an answer.
+Remy O I just wanted to point out that many white people are looked at as dirty, smelly, drug dealers, etc when wearing dreadlocks as well. At least where I'm from, it's not the skin colour but the hairstyle itself. Which honestly is ridiculous, everyone should be able to dress and style themselves however they please. Similar things happen to those with "excessive" tattoos and piercings. It's honestly the only reason I don't have either dreads or tattoos myself, unfortunately I'm going to need a job when done college and that won't happen if I don't look "professional" in the eyes of future employers. I don't know, maybe it's different in the USA?
+thenerdshopper For a long time Black people have been told how ugly and inappropriate our hair is, it is not ok for non-blacks to wear their hair in ways that have historical meaning attached and pass it off as a style or trend. It's not ok for a black person in dreads or corn rows to have a negative connotation but a non-black person can wear it and is fashion forward. Reverse racism is also not a thing. Black people straightened their hair as means of assimilating and being accepted.
I know I'm super late, I just came across this video and had to say that you are absolutely drop dead gorgeous. you have such natural beauty. you have great facial features and have no need for make up of any sort. I really admire faces like yours. just beautiful. (oh and not saying any girls need make up to be beautiful, just wanted to describe her natural beauty.)
sometimes but you get used to it. I have small dreads and my mum and dad have big dreads so its easier for me to just tie it back and sleep. or i braid it if im doing it (making it tighter)
there isnt even much to take care of.everyone always thinks negative about them. i had dreads for years . changed them dyed them, everything,. & only washed my scalp with baking soda never had an issue. the most easiest cutest simplest hair style ever. simple simple simple.
for those who don't understand why people in the comments have an issue with this, its not really the fact that shes wearing dreads; its the issue that for years if you had dreads you were seen as unkept and couldn't get a job forcing a lot of people with the hair texture meant for dreads (kinky) have to cut them off to even get hired. its the issue that white people can have dreads and bright colors and be cool and edgy but when i black person does they're weed fanatics or ratchet... or they look "african" (something I've had said to me with my naturally kinky/poofy hair) so don't call someone sensitive or overreacting until you know what it feels like not to get hired or accepted because of something you can't control
+London Pirtle it is an unfair racist double standard but anyone who has dreads chooses to have them. Even people with naturally kinky hair. It may be harder for them to not develop them but its easily avoidable nonetheless and many white people have kinky hair and have to fight off developing dreads (myself included)
Kandiss Williams That's what the people who refuse to hire someone because of their hair say as well. Maybe you should imagine if no one wanted to hire you because of the hair texture you are born with and try to understand.
Jenna Holt Good point but I was talking about why others in the comment section don't approve of this... And you can obviously see the girl in the video does not have kinky hair since they're synthetic and in other videos you can see the actual texture of her hair.
London Pirtle I've seen and known plenty of people wearing dreads in a professional setting. I've even had a male nurse with dreads before. Also seen a female therapist with dreads. Idk, maybe it differs from place to place.
Yall honestly need to LOOK UP why cultural appropriation is such a big deal. there's obviously a reason so many people are getting offended. we don't just get offended for the hell of it. Also I don't care if your black friend is okay with it; one black person's opinion doesn't invalidate countless others. (And FYI, chances are they're at least a little uncomfortable with it). Another thing: NO, a black girl dying her hair blond/straightening her hair/etc. and not getting shit for it is not "double standards." First of all white people aren't the only ones that can have blond or straight hair lmao. Look up the people of the Solomon Islands, they are dark-skinned and have naturally blond hair. Cultural appropriation is fucked up because when something is on a poc, it's disgusting but suddenly when a white person wears it its "cool", "stylish" and "edgy." My big lips were weird until Kylie Jenner made them desirable. white people are praised for having tans yet I am discriminated against for having naturally dark skin. Dreads are banned at workplaces, Afros and braids are banned at schools because they're "too ethnic". Not only that, but dreads actually mean something very special across many cultures. White people deciding to wear them because they're "cool" and "edgy" is disrespecting those cultures. I grew up hating my skin color and wanting absolutely nothing to do with my race. it took me FOURTEEN YEARS to love my blackness, I'm still struggling with it today (you can't just wash 14 years of self hatred away in a blink), and white girls just decide to be black for fashion. It's fucked up. it's not fair to the people like me. It's not "just hair".
And African Americans aren't the only ones to have dreads...Both celtic and viking people had dreadlocks, so I guess you can take your 'cultural appropriation' somewhere else. I think it is wonderful that she is respecting the culture in such a way. I am not saying it is not a big deal or that rascism does not exist...its just not a big deal here. She is not doing wrong, she obviously understands the culture behind it and respects that...so go somewhere else where your cultural appropriation and rascism is a problem, then you'll be doing some good.
Again not saying that cultural appropriation is not an issue, just saying she obviously understand the cultural value behind this hairstyle and respects that. It is not a thing that needs to be brought up here but instead brought up somewhere where someone does not understand and it really is a big problem. People do need to recognize this as an issue but I think everyone here already does. It just needs to be let go here and we can all appreciate this great hairstyle she is wearing and the respect she has for its cultural value.
Megan Stacy I never said black people are the only culture with dreads??? I said "dreads mean something special across MANY CULTURES". Also you can respect a culture without copying from it.. just like you can respect a smart person without copying off their homework/test. And just like copying off of someone's test, copying someone's culture without being part of that culture makes it lose its value. And someone is going to scold you for it.
Megan Stacy it’s still cultural appropriation. like she can respect the culture but why does she have to take part in it? and the fact that she’s wearing dreads still strips them of their significance because she’s just wearing it for fashion, she doesn’t have the religious nor the cultural importance personally. It’s still cultural appropriation. and you know damn well that white people would be kissing her ass (exhibit 1: this comment chain) while actual poc who wear dreads get racial slurs and insults thrown at them for practicing their culture. so it doesn’t matter that she wouldn’t go as far as to mock someone, but she’s still taking a part of someone’s culture and ruining it for her own personal reasons.
MinteyToast First of all, no one ever defends ethnic hairstyles in professional environments by saying it's "just hair". Never heard anyone say that. And if you've heard someone say it, then it's probably just for lack of a better phrase. It's not "just hair" ever. Hence me talking about it's cultural meaning. I'm not stupid.
after watching your videos i ended up buying dreads to :P just waiting for them to arrive :P how long time do you normally use to put the dreads in ? :)
Beautiful! Don't listen to the cultural appropriation trolls. They obviously need to do some proper re search about dreads, as well as hair history, race and how it is all linked to religion etc. It is like saying straight hair is reserved for Caucasians only, while black people have braids or kinky curly hair...braids are universal. But it is the style where one use extension hair to add while braiding/twisting which is typically African. We all do braids, but adding aditional hair is not traditionally done if Caucasian or Asian. Also black is not a culture! Stupid people.
To me black is definitely a culture in which I am apart. I agree every race can have dreads. The cultural appropriation part comes to play when she added Afro textured hair which she could never naturally have
Go figure, someone does a hairstyle in order to promote it positively (looks great by the way) and all the SJW come out of the woodwork with hate. This is why we can't have nice, non-racist relationships. Y'all are spreading the hate, thick as hell.
I just think it's sad that someone who loves or finds something beautiful is ridiculed for supporting it and finding positivity in it. I don't get offended when people wear Celtic Symbols, use henna, belly dance, wear kilts, drink Vodka or Scotch or chocolate milk, or at tattoo artists for using modern machinery. I think pointing out the negative tends to cause more problems than it solves.
Just because you don't get offended when your culture is appropriated doesn't mean i don't... and again not trying to be negative but if i find a problem with it I like to voice my opinion just like you.
Omg.. So much butthurt over cultural appropriation. She is not negatively representing any culture. Most people are getting the origin of dreads wrong for starters..Get over yourselves. People are so damn over sensitive.
+Anna Dwan says a white girl. If only we were so lucky to have your white privileges so we can sleep at night better and not worry about such silly issues.
+Anna Dwan I think as a person out of our culture, you don't have the right to tell us what we can or can't be upset about when it's in regards to our culture.
+VisualsByJae I keep saying it but no one tells me how this woman is negatively effecting any culture. I'm not telling anyone how their culture rolls. I'm only asking why everyone gets pissed over a white girl with synthetic dreds when she isn't hurting, misrepresenting, negatively effecting anyone. So please. Tell me what she has done wrong?
I don't understand at all how her wearing dreads is even "offensive" to African Americans. Like, she wears her hair in the form some of you guys do, so what? Since when are certain styles only allowed to be worn by certain races? That's pretty racist. The world should be about sharing cultures and sharing new ideas and styles with each other, not getting all defensive and rude when someone wears her hair a certain way. It's obviously not like she was making fun of them or anything.
+Laura Summers (Louise) Actually they look like shit on whites. Nappy and knotty. NEVER uniform and symmetrical! You can copy but you will never PERFECT!
It seems like a lot of dreads to complete this style with how little of sections you have to use. I came accross your videos doing research for the possibility of getting my own.. does it take a lot of dreads, because i nknow some of the people ive looked at on etsy sell them by the single, or by sets of 5-10
For a mohawk, it is recommended to buy a half set. The number of dreads in a half set depends on the size of the dreads themselves. For thicker dreads, you only need about 25-30. For thinner dreads, you need 40. And if you're shaving a mohawk for the first time, part the sides wherever you'd like!
Thanks a lot! I'm actually planning on going through Samii's Synthetics, and I was just wondering which of her dread styles do you prefer to get, because I know she has a few different styles
Why is everyone talking about her having armpit hair? When guys have it its not an issue but if s girl has even a tiny bit of hair it's a problem.. And I didn't even notice it til I read he comments
Great idea Looks cool..so at the end of the braiding there was a what a pony tail tie to go round it to make it stay in? It was hard to see from the video.
I really like sweet lolita... but I really like goth fashion x.x I have the side of my head shaved, and ima get the other one done some Time this week, but I'm in middle school and I'm scared people would hate in me for haveing dreads x.x but I really wanna do them...
+Elizabeth Diehl xD very true hehe, I'll just have to ask my teacher to move me to the back of class so my hair isn't in people's way, I could atleast have some common sense lol
Don't be scared girl I'm shaving the side of my head and most likely getting locks again ( had them in grade 6) now in in grade 8 you shouldn't care what other people say do what makes you happy
+VisualsByJae just leave why are you making a thing of it this is one person in 7 billion + and it's hair, if anything it's her hair because she purchased those synthetic dreads so just go back to your judgemental little life
+KwonKey every black girl I know that I've seen with blonde hair and blue eyes it wasnt natural trust me. Either way it's just fucking hair I don't see why it's such a huge deal. People get offended by everything these days.
because its always "cool" or "exotic" when a white person does it, but when a black person (who claims it as a part of their culture) does it they are deemed as "dirty" and "unkept". ALSO just because you haven't seen a black person with blonde hair and blue eyes doesn't mean they don't exist. There are plenty of them.
+KwonKey did I say that they didn't exist? No. Also just to specify, I never said they were dirty or unkept and I also don't have problem that they do those things I'm just saying it's stupid that when a white person has dreads it's racist but when a black person dyes their hair blonde and wears blue contacts it's not. It's stupid. Everything is a double standard these days.
so beautiful! dont understand why everyone is going on about culture, first of all, yall saying dreadlocks are african are wrong! Its jamaican! i have a friend named Imahl who has dreadlocks and he's from jamaica, not Africa!!! Its her choice of hairstyle, DEAL WITH IT. Btw why did she leave a little patch of hair at either side? xxx
It's not about African culture it's about black culture you can have black and white people in any race. She is appropriating the texture of black peoples hair... Get it?
noorhadid whether we did or did not is not the point. Do you know of any other race with afro textured kinky curly hair? didn't think so. that is what she is appropriating. if she was dreading her own hair it would be different .
Dreads are just a form of knots... indians,africans,australians,celts,vikings,etc... ignorance leads to seperation, culture is like a plant... it is cultivated... dont be the culture be the human... be the spirit
i dont ever comment on youtube videos, but the amount of inaccuracy being said from people that aren't black makes me want to gouge my eyes out. look up cultural appropriation. do your research. gather your sources. and stop trying to silence black people, like myself, who are offended by this. we dont care that your black friend agrees with white people having dreads. your black friend doesnt speak for US as a community. i dont think any of you are genuinely understanding as to WHY this is offensive. it's offensive because black people have been using this hairstyle and hairstyles alike (braids, cornrows, weave, etc) for centuries and we're constantly portrayed as ghetto and unkempt, but when white people do it theyre portrayed as alternative and "out there"
I have a few questions: my hair is about half the length of yours in this video, could I get synthetic dreads?? I'm really tempted after watching your vids. do you have a video detailing now how exactly you put your dreads in? are they heavy / will they pull your hair out a lot, or are they quite comfortable? I've always loved dreads, but worry they won't suit me!
Eloise this may not be applicable anymore, but your hair can be as short as 1 1/2 inches and you can still install synths~ with your hair length, you could definitely install them~
Have you ever tried braiding in the clip in hair extensions? I've always wondered how that would work if you could somehow remove the clip part and braid it in like a dread to keep the extensions neater for a longer period of time! I wear the clip in streaks all the time, so I've always wondered if you could do that! I'm not brave enough to try that with my hair because it took me a long time to get my hair as long as it is now so I really dont wanna fuck it up.
Everyone's making a big deal about "cultural appropriation" because she has a certain hair style... Well, better stop twerking, don't go vegetarian, don't wear plaid skirts, don't shave your head, don't wear it long, don't braid it, don't do anything that wasn't originally part of your culture. Idiots.
I mean this is cultural appropriation. Dreads are a hairstyle that was created in Africa. Who lives in Africa? Black people. They created the hairstyle. It means much more than a fashion statement. Dreads, in Rastafarian culture, it signifies spiritual intent, natural and supernatural powers, and are a statement of non-violent non-conformity. They were also used, just like afros, to protest white supremacy and the oppressive nature of white culture. Though this is not always the case with dreads. Not every black person is trying to protest white supremacy with dreads (although everyone should protest white supremacy it's still very alive sorry to break it to you) and not every black person wears dreads for religious purposes. But they have cultural significance. Now, during the afro hair movement, white people wore afros in solidarity to protest white supremacy as well. They knew where it came from and they didn't wear it as a fashion statement. If you're going to wear this hairstyle you better know where it comes from and you better fight for our black brothers and sisters to be able to wear the same damn hairstyle as you without being labeled a thug, ugly, unprofessional bc this hairstyle was MADE FOR THEIR HAIR. I'm not saying you don't get to wear this hairstyle, I'm just trying to give of history and insight into why white ppl wearing dreads is seen as problematic. If you want to wear this hair it's only fair that you fight for black ppl to be able to wear this hair too.
LuLu6214 The actual term of "Dread" corresponded to the Ethiopian war against Italy. Ethiopia is in Africa. It seems the place where you acquired your knowledge on dreadlocks has decided to leave out black people and Africa. Dreads originated in Africa and spread to other places like India.
Fire Twerks Actually records show Egyptian Mummies discovered wearing dreadlocks and also followers of Shiva in India. Both predate the Italo-Etheopian War.
LuLu6214 MAKE SURE YOURE PROPERLY EDUCATED ABOUT THE ORGINS OF BLACK PEOPLE (AFRICA) AND ALSO YOU'RE CONTINENTS AND COUNTRIES !! THOSE EGYPTIAN MUMMIES WERE BLACK PEOPLE
VisualsByJae because people a whiny asses who think someones hair is their business...why can you get your hair styled with hair from other races, but when a white person does it, its wrong. Ill tell you what, you have a point WHEN all hair extension stores in urban areas go out of business. and dont bother with the "thats not cultural appropriation for me to get extensions" crap. i know all the arguements youre gonna make already. If you dont like cultural blending, stop doing it and leave the US because thats what goes on here.
What kind of straightener do you use? I need to get a new straightener so if you have any good ones that you use will be great. Thanks love watching your videos.
I'll be honest with you, don't like them.. I don't know why but I don't like the look of dreads.. I'm just saying my opinion so sorry if I start anything..
How many dreads did you use? I am about to buy my first set to do this and I am not sure how many I'll need. I have the double undercut style like yours.
Thats NOT Deadlocks. Thats braidlocks. Dreads are ALWAYS rown natural over many years. Stop using the word Dreadlocks. Rastas coined the phrase, we decide what is and what isnt a Dreadlocks. Jah bless
***** I dont hate. But if u invent a word dont you get to decide what it means? This is not Dreadlocks. I dont mind it but use another word. Dreadlocks was coined as a term in Jamaica by Rastas, so Rastas deside what is and what isnt a Dreadlock. JAH bless.
nice. I would do electric blue.. or golden brown.. I miss my dreads. did you make your own extensions? and wow the death hawk too cool! holy.. should I?????
your hair looks soooo healthy! What hair routine do you use? I wash mine about two times a week, but since they're super curly once I brush them they look like straw :/ maybe you have any tips?
you should do a video on what to do when you first get them. like should I wash them before putting them on??? sort of just a video of what you would do..
Omgsh I saw two of your videos and now I have to get them!!! I know nothing about them! Do you recommend a brand or does it not matter? I know I want them braided in. How long do they usually last? Or do they not start looking crazy? Please give me a heads up!
I'm sure this question is answered at some point in comments on a video of yours, but rather than going through them all, I'll just ask. How long, approximately does each one take to put in? I've had temporary dreads before, but never actually purchased dreads to put in my hair and this seems like a majorly better solution rather than spending days brushing out dreads when I'm ready to change my hair style.
Hey, you look great! Love everything about it! Don’t let haters get you down because you’re amazing and beautiful. You look great in any hairstyle you go for. Keep being you
I don't see anybody talking about her deathhawk and telling her that's what natives did... i don't see u guys hating on the boho style that mocks gypsy tradition..
i see you wearing polish flower crowns.. i see you wearing romanian blouses... what is the problem with the hair? can't you dutch braid if you're french? can't you frenchbraid if you're dutch? can't you wear the irish quilt print on your clothes? can't you shave your hair because you mock buddhists? can't you go on a vegetarian diet because you mock indians? can't you eat sushi because you're making fun of japanese? can't you use chopsticks? can't you eat tacos or beans because you mock mexicans? can't you own a husky because eskimos will get mad? can't you eat pizza or pasta? COME ON PEOPLE. BEFORE ANYTHING WE'RE HUMAN . WE'RE EQUAL. As a romanian i know how it is like to be treated for less than you are. i know how it is to be oppressed.. I think we should let history go. it's saddly to late to change the mistakes the conquerers and explorers made
It's not that it originally belonged to another culture. It's that people of the culture who it originally belonged to are mocked and discriminated against for having this hairstyle.
+Abby The Nelson yes but gypsyes are also discriminated for wearing their traditional clothes...
+Andra Pop they absolutely are and many consider that word a slur. Which is why it's important to educate on how harmful cultural appropriation can be
The oppression of black people was and is far greater than most ethnicities, it's a much bigger problem.
As long as she isn't actually bashing whoever started this hairstyle, it can't be offensive.
why does everyone hate on the sideburns i like them
rat trap Yeah I like them too in my opinion
rat trap I love how they look
They’re ear tails
I wouldn't get the haircut myself but i think she looks amazing with that hairstyle!
LMAOOOO...smh riiiiiiiight *laughs at you*
Sorry sweetheart but you should be sure to read up on your history .
Lmao, your not helping the situation at all...read a book, boo.
Thank you. The internet needs more people like you.
For those talking about cultural appropriation I would suggest doing some history lessons. It has been prove that Germanic tribes, Celts, Romans, Greeks, even Vikings wore them. All through out history many different cultures have had natural and some form of artificial dreads.
.....really ..just actually think about what you just said pls
Kennedy Jackson Europeans wore dreads. Deal with IT.
Thank you! At least someone knows their shit!
Bullshit, it’s an African hairstyle stop riding our wave
@@masterwillem3762 bruh, there are literally pictures of ancient greeks wearing dreads
Because media is sexist and Louis white British ass thinks he's edgy but he can take his receding hairline out of African culture
It's because a black person with the same hairstyle would be given a lot of hate and called trashy, ghetto, etc.
+Abby The Nelson That is 100% not true.
+sushibu what about how Miley wore dreads and was praised but zendaya did and was attacked?
Abby The Nelson When the hell was miley praised? Where I live she was called out for appropriation.
But why are you doing it ? For what? Fun ? Fashion? If so then it is cultural appropriation!
+Tawni J you are beyond ignorant
Marisol Garza that's not being ignorant.
Marisol Garza I don't get it. Like that isn't ignorant at all. Getting a hairstyle that's important and has meaning just for fun or just for fashion is cultural appropriation .
+Tawni J she's not putting dreads in a negative light why do black people think everything is racist and the world revolves around them get over it
Did anyone lose get a problem with the audio just before she started then all the way through ? 🙈

SkaterMees What's goth/emo?
+ch527kerosene ? do you know what goth or emo is?
+jennifer reid But where did you think they got it from? i'm going to let you think about it....there are back people in scotland btw
Source?
+jennifer reid Celts of England too x And i think it’s BC not AD because the Romans decided to slaughter us x
+Sophie Foster source?
Learn the real definition of a dreadlocks.... Dreads naturally occur when black curly hair interlock together. Anyone of European decent could never have dreadlocks they could have greasy loose twist but never dreads....
Just putting this out there for all those "cultural appropriation" a-holes. For HUNDREDS to THOUSANDS of years Indians, Inca Waris, certain Asian cultures, Nordics, Celts, and several Native American tribes all wore dreads. It is not and never has been exclusively a "black culture" thing. Get over it.
thank you!
Yaya Sorensen Such bullshit coming from YOU. Funny you didn't dispute my claims! Truth hurts.
I would totally do this stuff.. If my hair didn't take a million years to grow

+VisualsByJae can tell a*
+VisualsByJae I'm Hispanic.
I think dreads are awesome, no matter your gender or race. You pull them off nicely! Also love the purple/pink colour in them. You look gorgeous!
So funny to see you uncertain about this at first and now you almost always have these in. Love them.
Why did you leave weird little sideburns?
I was about to say the same thing haha
its part of the death hawk hairstyle, usually when people first cut it they leave long side burns
it looks good tho

+Diana M yeah they kinda are but you get used to it
sometimes but you get used to it. I have small dreads and my mum and dad have big dreads so its easier for me to just tie it back and sleep. or i braid it if im doing it (making it tighter)

If u don't take care of dreads they can mold really pretty!
there isnt even much to take care of.everyone always thinks negative about them. i had dreads for years . changed them dyed them, everything,. & only washed my scalp with baking soda never had an issue. the most easiest cutest simplest hair style ever. simple simple simple.

Looking fab! Thank you SO much for the shout out! ❤
+TezMania TV Thank you! And of course
for those who don't understand why people in the comments have an issue with this, its not really the fact that shes wearing dreads; its the issue that for years if you had dreads you were seen as unkept and couldn't get a job forcing a lot of people with the hair texture meant for dreads (kinky) have to cut them off to even get hired. its the issue that white people can have dreads and bright colors and be cool and edgy but when i black person does they're weed fanatics or ratchet... or they look "african" (something I've had said to me with my naturally kinky/poofy hair) so don't call someone sensitive or overreacting until you know what it feels like not to get hired or accepted because of something you can't control
You can choose not to have dreads lol
Idk, maybe it differs from place to place.
what made you choose to not shave the little bits of hair in front of your ears? just curious.
I think it looks nice! I'm curious too, though
+Lexie Smith I spot AmazingPhil cx
+Shannon F Gangsta rap made her do it.

I was watching grav3yardgirl and somehow got here. A lot of people I see can not pull off dreds whatsoever, but this looks really cute on you tbh!

Has anyone told you... you are BEAUTIFUL!
after watching your videos i ended up buying dreads to :P just waiting for them to arrive :P how long time do you normally use to put the dreads in ? :)
White* white is not a culture
To me black is definitely a culture in which I am apart. I agree every race can have dreads. The cultural appropriation part comes to play when she added Afro textured hair which she could never naturally have
Go figure, someone does a hairstyle in order to promote it positively (looks great by the way) and all the SJW come out of the woodwork with hate. This is why we can't have nice, non-racist relationships. Y'all are spreading the hate, thick as hell.
Correction it's not hate it's simply to make people aware. Cultural appropriation is real and this is a great example of it.
+LuLu6214 Why would YOU be offended by someone wearing henna?
RockZombieIAm Originates from one line of my ancestral heritage, also said I'm not offended.

Please. Tell me how she is NEGATIVELY representing ANY culture??
+Anna Dwan I think as a person out of our culture, you don't have the right to tell us what we can or can't be upset about when it's in regards to our culture.
+VisualsByJae I keep saying it but no one tells me how this woman is negatively effecting any culture. I'm not telling anyone how their culture rolls. I'm only asking why everyone gets pissed over a white girl with synthetic dreds when she isn't hurting, misrepresenting, negatively effecting anyone. So please. Tell me what she has done wrong?

+Pookey Rainer (Karianne) so
I don't understand at all how her wearing dreads is even "offensive" to African Americans.
Google is not a myth. Type in something as "white people wearing dreads cultural appropriation".
To all the people whining or complaining about the hair, she ain't gonna stop it because of you. Dreads are amazing on black and white people.
so true

Savannah Mathis False? Learn the difference between a FACT and an OPINION!
+Misssophisticated 1 u need to fuckin chill. people can wear wtf they want so u gonna have to fuckin deal with it.
It seems like a lot of dreads to complete this style with how little of sections you have to use. I came accross your videos doing research for the possibility of getting my own.. does it take a lot of dreads, because i nknow some of the people ive looked at on etsy sell them by the single, or by sets of 5-10
Also, for the first time shaving my head like tht, how would i part it in order to shave the sides off
For a mohawk, it is recommended to buy a half set.
AngieRose Of course! And good choice, she is definitely my favorite. I prefer her bumpy twisted style of dreads :)
Thanks for all your advice. just watching you take out and install your dreads is just mezmorizing
I really liked this hair style. Maybe I'll make it. Being different is beautiful. Also you look like cool
Why is everyone talking about her having armpit hair? When guys have it its not an issue but if s girl has even a tiny bit of hair it's a problem.. And I didn't even notice it til I read he comments

Don't be scared girl I'm shaving the side of my head and most likely getting locks again ( had them in grade 6) now in in grade 8 you shouldn't care what other people say do what makes you happy
I personally think its okay for people to do whatever style they want, like the whole cultural appropriation thing people take too far sometimes.

if I'm a dummy what are you? 😂
AMAZING!
where do you get the pieces to do this with? How much are they?
Its racist when a white girl has dreads but when a black girl has blonde hair and blue contacts it's okay?
Blonde hair and blue eyes are genetic. There are black people born with blonde hair and blue eyes. You can't be born with dreads. Try again.
+KwonKey I also didn't even say anything racist the fact you're getting so offended is beyond me
so beautiful! dont understand why everyone is going on about culture, first of all, yall saying dreadlocks are african are wrong!
Get it?
+bredeebubbles black people didn't invent dreads
noorhadid whether we did or did not is not the point. Do you know of any other race with afro textured kinky curly hair? didn't think so. that is what she is appropriating. if she was dreading her own hair it would be different
.
+bredeebubbles South East Asians can have similar hair texture
noorhadid No. They have very coarse thick straight hair never curly enough to lock on its own
Don't listen to the black haters. They don't own a hairstyle and you look great with dreads. (:
are these the custom ones u made a vid about? sorry I may b a tad behind 😮
+Amy Cohen No, the custom ones are blue/green and I just got them last week.
you rock in that hair gril
Haha that's funny! Hopefully he sees how wrong he originally was. And I hope you get it! It's super fun to have :D
ch527kerosene aww! Ur such a sweetheart! Thanks..I think I just might!! 😈
Dreads are just a form of knots... indians,africans,australians,celts,vikings,etc... ignorance leads to seperation, culture is like a plant... it is cultivated... dont be the culture be the human... be the spirit
Wish I knew about these synthetic dreads before I had a real job. lol. (back in college)
i dont ever comment on youtube videos, but the amount of inaccuracy being said from people that aren't black makes me want to gouge my eyes out. look up cultural appropriation. do your research. gather your sources. and stop trying to silence black people, like myself, who are offended by this. we dont care that your black friend agrees with white people having dreads. your black friend doesnt speak for US as a community. i dont think any of you are genuinely understanding as to WHY this is offensive. it's offensive because black people have been using this hairstyle and hairstyles alike (braids, cornrows, weave, etc) for centuries and we're constantly portrayed as ghetto and unkempt, but when white people do it theyre portrayed as alternative and "out there"
I have a few questions:
my hair is about half the length of yours in this video, could I get synthetic dreads?? I'm really tempted after watching your vids.
do you have a video detailing now how exactly you put your dreads in?
are they heavy / will they pull your hair out a lot, or are they quite comfortable?
I've always loved dreads, but worry they won't suit me!
Eloise this may not be applicable anymore, but your hair can be as short as 1 1/2 inches and you can still install synths~ with your hair length, you could definitely install them~
Why keep those side-pieces - they are so damn ugly. They have never looked good on anyone. The dreads look cute though
That's so not true! I have a side patch and it suits me so much.
+lollsazz some people think side pieces are cute c: you should respect other peoples opinion and they will respect yours
m'era Morosa It just looks like... male pattern baldness... or small mustaches at the side of the head... or that you missed a spot
well she likes it so just let her have her own opinion, if you don't like it simply don't do it yourself.
+m'era Morosa (b33nt0h3ll) but she said in the video "let me know what you think". That's exactly what the person who wrote that comment did. :)
You look gorgeous....
Just.. Pleaseee pleaseee get rid of the earpatchs!!
goddammit hhhhhnnnnnnnnnnnngggggggg >.<
Imma keep watching your videos just because you're unvelievably beautiful ok? ok.
Okay but I don't like pieces of hair near your ear it's so bad
I actually really like when people leave that part. She can do what she wants
Everyone's making a big deal about "cultural appropriation" because she has a certain hair style... Well, better stop twerking, don't go vegetarian, don't wear plaid skirts, don't shave your head, don't wear it long, don't braid it, don't do anything that wasn't originally part of your culture. Idiots.

I will never understand why people leave those stupid fucking tufts of hair in front of their ears. Shave it all wtf don't leave a chunk
I have watched every video of yours I can find and it has encouraged me to try them. any advice for someone that is doing this for the first time?
+Fire Twerks Actually Dreads originated before that they were worn by Indian Sages and Yogis.
LuLu6214 Egyptians are from Africa. Egyptians were black.
LuLu6214 MAKE SURE YOURE PROPERLY EDUCATED ABOUT THE ORGINS OF BLACK PEOPLE (AFRICA) AND ALSO YOU'RE CONTINENTS AND COUNTRIES !! THOSE EGYPTIAN MUMMIES WERE BLACK PEOPLE
I love it and your shaved sides make you look like a gladiator!! ;)
girl.... you can't do that..
Says who?..
I love it on her and it suits her really well.
too late
Yes she can.
+Laurie Beth H not without getting shit for it
VisualsByJae because people a whiny asses who think someones hair is their business...why can you get your hair styled with hair from other races, but when a white person does it, its wrong.
If it did this it would look like shit but it soots u ❤️❤️

I'll be honest with you, don't like them.. I don't know why but I don't like the look of dreads.. I'm just saying my opinion so sorry if I start anything..
best profile pic tbh perfectly captured
then why r u even watching this, u can keep ur negative comments to yourself, im sure she doesn't care to see them
Cuz she so fucking cute!
She is fucking adorable but I don't know why I don't like the dread things in general.
"Sorry if I start anything" …… but you're not Because if you really were, you wouldn't have posted the comment.
I liked the dreads and everything but that sideburns... just no u.u
How many dreads did you use? I am about to buy my first set to do this and I am not sure how many I'll need. I have the double undercut style like yours.
Your check bones! (Sounds weird I know)
estaba más linda sin las rastas 😢

Cierto 😢

fue solo una opinion xd

lo que a mí no me gusta lo que se deja en las patillas, queda mejor todo rapado creo...
Ah yes, cultural appropriation at its finest.
This is EXACTLY what I was about to say 😂
how many double ended dreads did it take to do your dread hawk, btw love this vid!!
Around 26, I think!
+ch527kerosene where can I buy these dreads I want to try
Thats NOT Deadlocks. Thats braidlocks. Dreads are ALWAYS rown natural over many years. Stop using the word Dreadlocks. Rastas coined the phrase, we decide what is and what isnt a Dreadlocks. Jah bless
*****
I dont hate. But if u invent a word dont you get to decide what it means? This is not Dreadlocks. I dont mind it but use another word. Dreadlocks was coined as a term in Jamaica by Rastas, so Rastas deside what is and what isnt a Dreadlock. JAH bless.
*****
that doesnt make it right.

what about cultural-theft from the Rasta community do you find funny?
+Robert Jonsson
I guess we should rename pizza and tacos as well because they aren't the same as the original in Italy or Mexico.
I'd love to do this but I'm not sure would it work with me and I'd have to grow my hair longer and change my cut style...
nice. I would do electric blue.. or golden brown.. I miss my dreads. did you make your own extensions? and wow the death hawk too cool! holy.. should I?????
Why is this person just so perfect? Literally a master....and so beautiful 😭
You should be a model. You could pull off literally any hairstyle omg
your hair looks soooo healthy! What hair routine do you use? I wash mine about two times a week, but since they're super curly once I brush them they look like straw :/ maybe you have any tips?
Did you buy the Extensions like that or did you make them first? I'm interested in doing my hair like this.
you should do a video on what to do when you first get them. like should I wash them before putting them on??? sort of just a video of what you would do..
This actually came out really good ! I guess process is everything (:
you are my inspiration!!!! omg you look awesome with those in! keep ding your thang girl! i love it
I love dreads! Yours look awesome. I would love to have some myself but I do not have the patience to sit for hours putting them in. Awesome job!
Omgsh I saw two of your videos and now I have to get them!!! I know nothing about them! Do you recommend a brand or does it not matter? I know I want them braided in. How long do they usually last? Or do they not start looking crazy? Please give me a heads up!
the shaved sides and the dreads suit you so well!
How many did you need? I'm thinking about doing it and I really love the way yours look! How many and what length did you get?
I'm sure this question is answered at some point in comments on a video of yours, but rather than going through them all, I'll just ask. How long, approximately does each one take to put in? I've had temporary dreads before, but never actually purchased dreads to put in my hair and this seems like a majorly better solution rather than spending days brushing out dreads when I'm ready to change my hair style.
Hey, you look great! Love everything about it! Don’t let haters get you down because you’re amazing and beautiful. You look great in any hairstyle you go for. Keep being you
