I have bought a mint silver om-1. The light meter doesn't work anymore, but mechanically it does. With an external lightmeter, this is not a problem anymore. Nice video, and thanks for sharing ;))
Thank you for liking my video! This camera is definitely a great camera! It would be better if this camera does not break down easily on light meter.. May be it is because they tried to fit lots of function on this small body. Haha
I appreciate the look at these old cameras. I am old enough to remember when the OM-1 was new. I didn’t have one, I was a Pentax guy (Canon would have been my 2nd choice) but I had a girlfriend with the OM-1 and she loved it. The Ollie was such a pretty camera a lot of women liked them back then. The only Ollie I owned was the Pen EEE but I didn’t really like the lousy half frame quality. If you like small, you would love the Pentax M-series. A lot smaller than the Olympus, more reliable with the most common failure point being the film transport mechanism which is relatively easy to fix, and great lens selection. My MX has never had a problem, and out of three ME-Super, only one had a problem. I always worried that the electronics of the ME-Super would eventually be an issue but so far no troubles with that. I do like the lack of electronics in the MX. That camera could survive a bomb! 1970’s SLR’s are the pinnacle of 35mm analog.
Plus Alpha Studio I regard the MX as one of the greatest cameras ever made. The ME was very electronic, but the MX was mechanical simplicity and could operate without a battery. It was the perfect camera to take into the wilderness because it was light yet rugged. I love the quirky aperture reading mechanism which cleverly uses a mirror and needs no electronics. The best lenses were the 50 f1.7 and 50 f1.4. The worst lens was the 50 f2. The ME Super is much more common. In 1976 the ME was criticised for having no manual controls so the ME Super was the response, by adding manual controls back in. This was via a button system that takes a little getting used to but works well enough, But I prefer the MX. These cameras were popular with professionals because of the motor drive accessory, and pentax had a bulk film back. Their lens philosophy was the fewest elements possible so lenses were simple but rugged. Seems a long time ago now, but around 1970 Pentax was the largest selling camera brand. Sad to see their decline in the 1980’s and 90’s as Canon took over. I don’t think Pentax ever recovered from that loss in the electronics arms race that the Canon AE represented. Canon beat Pentax to market with the first computerised camera by just a few weeks, but in the public’s mind, it was Canon that everyone thought of first. On top of that the Pentax ME was just a bit too electronic for people’s taste, and the MX too mechanical. So Canon gained market share at Pentax expense. A pity, because the Pentax camera were so damn good, and so incredibly small. I am sure you will love using these cameras and I look forward to a review.
Hallo und Willkommen! Really lucky that you got a nice condition one. Leave it away from the moisture to prevent the prism decay. Thank you for enjoying my video and picture!
Thank you! I think I'll probably post some video late next year.. Sorry.. Though I'm still taking photos and video! I hope I can come back soon with another episode! Meanwhile you can check out my website for the photos and review! It is www.plusalphastudio.com !
Thank you a lot for enjoying my video! I really love that combo. I wonder what lens do you use..! It was hard to find the lens I was looking for to use with OM-1...
I had the same problem with stuck advancement leaver on the OM 2sp several times, multiple electrical failures, but I love that damn camera so much... Recently I got also problem with light seals on the film door. Maybe I should just buy another camera of the same model, in better condition...
I agree with your opinion... Once it have some sort of problem, it keep having same or another problems... But the problem is it is so pretty and handy in size that it make you to love the camera... Make sure to check the condition before buy it..! Fascinating camera indeed! Oh btw, light seal on film door is a easy and cheap problem to fix!! Hope you fix it!
I used to live in busan and the lenses there sold for my OM1 were in worse condition. I don’t know where you took your camera to, but I used to repair my own lenses and the line on the prism could be fixed easily. I think you were scammed by the repair shop.
The prism on my camera had really a big issue. Great that you’ve fixed your camera! I saw the original prism that my camera head, but it was unfixable condition.. I do fix my camera time to time. If the prism has small line and those are not been long there, it is easy to fix, but unfortunately, on mine, foam rot the prism so much that I had to replace them.. Thank you for your opinion. :)
Plus Alpha Studio I was rereading my comment and hope it didnt sound as coming off too negative. Actually thanks for making these videos! You could also use old cheaper OM10s that are broken to fix your OM1 prism by the way.
Thank you for your kind comment! I really appreciate that watching my video and leaving a meaningful comment! I understand what you meant. No worries!! replacing with OM10's prism is great information. Thank you alot!! :)
Your camera shop should have fixed those items one time visit. They are the 3 common problems in the 40 year camera. Foam rot, battery power line, shutter gear cleaning. Prisim repair twice is a shop error. You also never buy a lense with fungus, cost more too much to fix unless it is a $special lense. The iris will get oily on these.
Feel bad for you man ... All the times you had to pay to send the camera in for repair. OM-1 is the Citroen of cameras. Clever designs that spend more time at the mechanics than on the road

You have to get an OM3, or perhaps an OM4.. later models and usually therefor more reliable.
Please post more reviews of vintage lenses for different cameras ... thanks
