A "review" of this camera is almost superfluous as it is legendary. The fact that a couple of generations on young folk get the same feeling about it as I did when I bought mine in the 70s (I still have it) says something about the quality of this camera.
Hey Stevan! Great video I just bought Olympus OM-1 today. This is my first film camera what are some good film selections for color and black & white? thank you.
I have decided to dump almost all of my 35mm SLRs to concentrate on the OM system. I have 3 bodies to send off for overhaul. The first is done and running happily. It isn't really cheap at about $200 per body but I figure they will outlast me now. I'll keep my Minolta XDs and an SRT but the rest have to go.
This is a mechanical camera, so for the shutter, aperture and/or focus to work, you do not need batteries. You do need the batteries to get the light meter to work. In other words, it will work as a fully manual camera without batteries and with no meter.
Stevan Tontich Photography Video Channel ok thank you so much I just ordered mine and I was just wondering if it needed batteries. Thank you for answering my dumb question lol.
No, they don't. You have to use an adapter, and it doubles the focal range. 24mm becomes 48mm, etc. I tried it on my OM-D once or twice, but they gave up.
Hard choice. Om1 is smaller and mechanical. A classic. I had A1 and loved it. It was a technical marvel back in the day. I really like the red led display of the shutter and aperture in the viewfinder. I did not like the shooting mode selector as well. A1 is a much more modern camera. So if you want a classic mechanical with manual everything, om1. If you want one with more automation then A1. :-)
@@stevantontichphotographyvi9358 cuz i saw that Canon A-1 has the viewfinder displaying information which seems to be better? @@qibcentricsplayground2043 I find both lenses to be excellent. I actually think Canon ones I tried had a good deal of character I liked also. And, to be honest, I actually prefer the A-1 display in the viewfinder...for shooting at night, at least - you cannot see the needle OM-1 well or at all.
Hi. No it doesn't. It is a needle match meter. You set the shutter speed and then move the aperture ring to have meter needle appear in center. Check out OM 2 OR OM 4 for more automation.
The shutter on the OM1 is a bit slow at 1/500 up to about one-third slow and at 1/1000 up to about half a stop, so beware of that to prevent overexposure !
Hey everyone I have one, but I don't understand how the battery function. If I take it off the meter will still work. And if I put it back. It basically makes no difference. So here am I wondering what is the battery for?
This camera is a jewel and as the original owner of my model, I can't give it up.
Very helpful, thank you so much! Just got my Om-1 in the mail today.
Thanks.

Nicely done. A zinc air 675 battery (1.4V) and a small cheap O ring works great for the meter battery.
o ring?
Love these little cameras. Sam Abell used them
I just stumbled upon this camera a Goodwill . Doing all my research on it now pretty excited to get it going
Sweet! Let me know if you need some help
@@stevantontichphotographyvi9358 thanks, quick question have you used it with the battery or without? Is it better to have the battery
@@iamshikirah i would suggest getting a battery. You can find them on ebay. A company called Weinncell MRB 625
Wow. Sick camera. Does it shoot video in HD lomography or 4k lomography, and does it take micro sd cards.
LOL. It's a film camera ...low def, and film.
Stevan Tontich Photography Video Channel Oh OK. I thought the back door was where the video cassette goes in the camera.
Clearly, your dog properly feds you. You should thank him daily, otherwise it'd be a way rougher journey for you.

Do you even know what film photography is?
Hey Stevan! Great video I just bought Olympus OM-1 today. This is my first film camera what are some good film selections for color and black & white? thank you.
lou coffee try Ilford Delta 100 or 400 for bw . Try kodak Ektar 100 for color.
Thank you I just order both of them!

I hope you enjoy your OM gear. They are great, compact and very well performing cameras.

The shutter speeds 1 through 60 (in blue) are synched for flash photography
Do these lens fit on OMD series without an adapter?

I’m a newbie to this but does this need any type of battery?
Hi. Yes, PX625. You can also purchase a brass adapter to fit SR44 in. I would look on ebay.
Lovely camera - I have three of them, and 4 OM2(n)s.
Cool! Hope you are enjoying them all :-)
i am still thinking between this or the canon a-1

what kind of film does this take? where can i buy it?
35mm film. Best place to start would be www.filmphotographyproject.com
How costs a used at good condition?
OM1n body runs around a $100 on eBay in good condition - lenses go for $30 onward.

this could be due to aging of a particular camera
Not an informative viewfinder but every bit as good as a Nikon FM2. It's the brain that operates the camera NOT vise versa.
