I made this video for my “supernatural” based viewers, hence the call backs to supernatural, but I swear, I lose that and look at the show on its own and love it sooo much more than anything else. just wanted to add this, bc if I had known I would go on to actually film reactions for more of the show, I wouldve gone about my first couple episodes very differently 😅 so new people watching that are fans of buffy: hello! i hope you enjoy :)

I think Buffy is the greatest fictional female character ever written.So many times my heart brakes for her. So many times I watch her rise above it, do the right thing and be inspiring. After Angel ended all those writers ended up writing and be the show runner for pretty much every TV show in the last 15 years.

I'm always envious of people watching and discovering the greatness of Buffy for the first time. The first season is a bit rough but stick with it, both Buffy and its spin-off Angel are some of the best superhero genre tv ever produced.
When the show first premiered, both this and The Harvest were consecutively played as a 2-hour movie event that same night. Once they went into repeats, they were split apart. That's why the cliffhanger. Anyway, enjoy the show. The first season will be sorta cheesy popcorn horror, but once you're halfway through season 2, it gets so much better.
yeahh, someone else said that. makes sense bc a “to be continued” as a premiere would be Wild lmao. but a 2 hr premiere is so frickin cool. i will definitely keep with it! i gather from this and numerous other comments that half way thru s2 is when it gets Really good and now im hype to see what it is haha

Also i'd find Firefly and the movie it spawned Serenity. basically I say watch all Joss Whedon shows lol. but Firefly is the best sci fi series ever. edit: ummm nevermind about the Merlin thing as I continue to watch the reaction lol
It looks like you might be watching the HD remaster. Just a heads up, it's a botched job. Like, bafflingly so. Down the line, color and lighting issues, nonsensical auto-framing (things being randomly zoomed in for no reason etc), stretched effects, people looking plastic, all sorts of weirdness, and the show creator hates it. If you can find the original non-widescreen, non-HD version, it's recommended you watch that instead. Otherwise, just be ready for the show to make less sense than it should and it being not entirely obvious why. I know HD seems instinctively like it should be better, and it is sharper, but there's a lot of work that goes into remastering a show and it seems they let a stupid computer do it automatically with all the settings on max (that or they gave it to an intern who didn't know what they were doing), so the sharpness really isn't worth it for all the downsides. That being out of the way, this show was a huge turning point for storytelling in television. Practically every show since owes something to this show. It kind of gradually reinvented how to do a TV series, and a few of the writers went on to become showrunners or consulting producers on other shows. Season 1 feels a bit dated now (which is not to say you should skip it; it's fun and it's short and it establishes important things), but you'll see it evolve as it goes, into something that sets the standard for modern television. I'm sure many have said you're in for a ride, and you are. Buffy is typically short for Elizabeth, but not in this case. It's just Buffy Anne Summers.
lots of other peeps have informed me about the hd version. the version u see in my videos is NOT what im watching. im watching what is on hulu which is the correct version (p sure). the one im able to download to edit with is the HD version. its easier for me to edit with it and sadly i cant find other reliable download links :(
@@alleybox Ah, yeah, I can see that being a bit tricky. I guess one method would be screen recording while filming (OBS has that ability), which could be easier or trickier depending on your methods and your setup. In any case, as long as you're watching the proper version, it's all good (and I'm sure you'll notice the differences along the way).
Tasteful Tuna yeah i have tried that in the past, but i can Never figure out the audio. its always wonky and only comes out one ear for some reason 🙄 but i will definitely try again sometime
@@alleybox One ear? Sounds like a classic mono/stereo problem. Does this help? th-cam.com/video/Nd6b9Wt3bOw/w-d-xo.html I don't know why this would happen with the show audio, since that's supposed to be in stereo, but I could easily see it happening with a microphone. If you're only getting one side of the show audio, this isn't really a proper solution, but it is a workaround that might be good enough for the purpose.
Funny enough I watched Buffy while it was still airing and when Buffy ended and 2003 and Angel ended in 2004 I was lost. Lol but then I saw Supernatural first in January 2006 and it filled the Buffy-shaped hole in my heart
I was also in the same boat!! The only shows that saved me between Buffy and then getting into SPN was Firefly and Scrubs! Those shows filled a huge place in my heart until I got into SPN :)

I'm 21 years old and the first time I watched Buffy, I was 9 years old. I started watching it because I recognized her from the Scooby Doo movies. I was like "OMG Daphne's the Slayer!" 🤯🤣

L R I don’t ever diss it, I just don’t think it’s all that representational of the series as a whole. I think that’s what most people are really trying to tell her. About halfway through the second season is where it starts to take shape as the ‘Buffy’ most people think of.
Yes, I agree, season 1 has the same characters as the later seasons, and their arcs do begin here, but story-wise, there is a big difference. I love the later seasons, but season 1 has a special place in my heart... you can see glimpses of what it would become, but mostly it´s just fun to watch :)

I am a simple guy, I see a Buffy reacter so I subscribe! This is one of the best shows ever made in my opinion, even if it really only picks up around middle season 2, until then it´s still a fun ride with some brilliant moments and acting. Enjoy!

The pilot was originally 2 hours which was split for reruns. Buffy was the continuation of a film, but you can be basically caught up after the second episode.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Before Supernatural, there was Buffy. U don’t know how much I’ve have missed your content😩 and Buffy is definitely worth the watch. But seasons 2-7 are where it’s at. Season 1 is good, but the rest of the seasons, story wise, are amazing.
OMG the dialup modem noise was such a throwback. Back when this came out that's all we had and I used to sing along to the dialup noise as I waited to get online and download .wav files of Buffy quotes....ahahaha nostalgia. If you loved the pilot then you'll love the show. Buffy is an absolute queen. You'll find out more about the slayer mythology and how slayers are 'called' as the series goes along. Enjoy!

It's the OG of monster of the week series, and was first one to make the classic ropes that other MotW series followed. Though imo Buffy executed them better than any series that has come after. First season is kinda bad, but it really gets going after that. My favorite seasons are 4-6.
@@Smuglu Buffy is my favorite tv series of all time, but Kolchak: The Night Stalker (1974) is probably the original MotW series and X-Files (1993 on) was another MotW show that came before Buffy.
I’m a simple girl, I see a new Buffy reactor who is funny af and I subscribe. This is one of my favorite shows of all time. And yes it can be cheesy and dated and sometimes things are pretty cringe by today’s standards, but I promise it is well worth your time to watch.

I grew up watching this show, was 11 when season 1 aired in the UK. One of my favourite shows of all time without a doubt. Love watching other people discover it.
Take it for the shitty ride it is. Like a wooden rollercoaster you hate ite the whole way through, but, you kinda come away with a sense of accomplishment. Referring to the first season, that is.

It’s the first season and the budget was low, and the actors were trying to get comfortable with their characters, but you can see they didn’t really get comfortable till about the second season. But it’s still a fun season, plot wise, not as good as other seasons, but it’s still enjoyable
Side note I was the same age as Buffy was supposed to be in season 1(Sarah was actually in her early 20s. I believe 22), I was absolutely in love with her.
She was born in April 1977, so she was 19 when the first season was filmed and started airing, and turned 20 that spring. I only remember because she's just a few months older than me!

I like to say it doesn't start as a show until mid season 2 but till then it lays a fun foundation. Solid reaction. "What are you afraid of?" "Numerous things." And that orange juice crack. 🤣 The show does get scary btw. Seen scarier that I can't watch but it is a flip take on what if the girl in a horror movie were super powered so it goes places.
@@alleybox Once you're a Buffy fan, you're a fan for life. The show never really makes it clear what they're drinking at The Bronze but they make a point of it when they have alcohol so you can safely assume it's soda or whatever.
The series is a soft reboot of the 1992 movie of the same name. It covers Buffy's origins of becoming The Slayer. Minor details were changed for the series and the cast is entirely different, but since Buffy moved from L.A. to Sunnydale between then two, they are all new characters anyway with the exception of Buffy and her mom.

Look up After Show Reactions, Liam Duke, Liam Catterson, Introvert Reactions, etc. There are literally dozens of people reacting to Buffy right now, and all of them know basically nothing about it. After Show Reactions has finished both Buffy and Angel, Liam Duke is on Season 6 of Buffy and Season 3 of Angel, Liam Catterson is on Season 4 of Buffy and Season 1 of Angel, and my favorite Introvert reacts is on season 5 of Buffy and season 2 of Angel.
@@wesleylackman258 I like Liam Duke and Aftershow Reactions and there are a bunch of others I´ve watched that are new to Buffy too(Torchwood Boy is another good one) but they all know roughly what it´s about, they´ve heard of a lot of the characters before. Ally doesn´t seem to know anything at all, maybe I´m wrong, she did know the name Angel in the next episode, but she seemed to know a lot less beforehand than most people do. Since Buffy is a huge cult series that a lot of people will have heard a bunch about even if they havn´t seen it, it would be fun to watch someone experience it for the first time with no clues about any of it.

About the Bronze, according to the shooting script, the age for patrons was high school students and older. Coffee bar in the back. They have alcohol, but they card and do hand stamps.

Big Bad is a term for villains introduced in this show, that was later used by many shows. Among other things, like the team dynamic of a trio and a wise mentor. Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles. The thing about Buffy having trouble at her forme school, is a indirect reference to the Buffy movie, that inspired the series.

Fun fact! Buffy summers was named after "The Buffy Coat". It is the layer of anti coagulated blood cells that contains mostly white blood cells. So in a way she is a reference to the body's natural defense system, and shes a bad ass super hero saving the world from vampires. Pretty cool stuff.
I watched this when it originally aired. Die hard fan. You will not be disappointed. In fact, Supernatural was the only thing that filled the void after Buffy ended.
I just finished watching the series finale and I found this, great timing. It's exciting to watch someone getting into this for the first time. I didn't know this channel before this video but I'm all here for your Buffy reactions, I can tell this is one of the best shows I ever watched and I hope you like it as much as I do :) P.S. Just a recommendation: try to find the version that originally aired instead of the HD remaster 'cause otherwise you won't completely appreciate the original vision of the creators.
Fun fact: The girl who found the dead guy in her locker was played by Persia White from Girlfriends. There's a lot of surprising celebrity cameos. Also, a fair number of Buffyverse actors had guest appearances on Supernatural.

@@alleybox Oh the movie is Legend. Whedon lost control and desperately wanted the series after. Funny though, we're talking classic actor, getting on in years, deliberately messing up every line and they all had to scramble to fit. Plus there are some Whedon moments that are unmistakable. Peewee Herman, Luke Perry lots of camp. If you want the original of course there's a comic but still a fun and silly watch.
So glad you are watching Buffy! This is the show that led me to SPN. S1 is a classic, but S2-4 really are top notch fantasy TV. Excited for the next video!

When this was made all we'd seen him in was a series of coffee ads about two neighbours flrting over needing sugar for coffee.
He also showed up in an episode of Doctor Who.

Funny enough I watched Buffy while it was still airing and when Buffy ended and 2003 and Angel ended in 2004 I was lost. Lol but then I saw Supernatural first in January 2006 and it filled the Buffy-shaped hole in my heart
I was also in the same boat!! The only shows that saved me between Buffy and then getting into SPN was Firefly and Scrubs! Those shows filled a huge place in my heart until I got into SPN :)

Season one is a bit wonky because they had a joke for a budget, but the overall story is so good you'll get by. From season 2 on, you'll be hooked!

L R I don’t ever diss it, I just don’t think it’s all that representational of the series as a whole. I think that’s what most people are really trying to tell her. About halfway through the second season is where it starts to take shape as the ‘Buffy’ most people think of.
Yes, I agree, season 1 has the same characters as the later seasons, and their arcs do begin here, but story-wise, there is a big difference. I love the later seasons, but season 1 has a special place in my heart... you can see glimpses of what it would become, but mostly it´s just fun to watch :)

The pilot was originally 2 hours which was split for reruns. Buffy was the continuation of a film, but you can be basically caught up after the second episode.

If you loved the pilot then you'll love the show. Buffy is an absolute queen. You'll find out more about the slayer mythology and how slayers are 'called' as the series goes along. Enjoy!

It's the OG of monster of the week series, and was first one to make the classic ropes that other MotW series followed. Though imo Buffy executed them better than any series that has come after. First season is kinda bad, but it really gets going after that. My favorite seasons are 4-6.

I’m a simple girl, I see a new Buffy reactor who is funny af and I subscribe. This is one of my favorite shows of all time. And yes it can be cheesy and dated and sometimes things are pretty cringe by today’s standards, but I promise it is well worth your time to watch.

I grew up watching this show, was 11 when season 1 aired in the UK. One of my favourite shows of all time without a doubt. Love watching other people discover it.
Season 1 is eh compared to other seasons, I do enjoy it but trust me, season 2 gets a whole lot better. You’re in for a ride!

It’s the first season and the budget was low, and the actors were trying to get comfortable with their characters, but you can see they didn’t really get comfortable till about the second season. But it’s still a fun season, plot wise, not as good as other seasons, but it’s still enjoyable

Side note I was the same age as Buffy was supposed to be in season 1(Sarah was actually in her early 20s. I believe 22), I was absolutely in love with her.
She was born in April 1977, so she was 19 when the first season was filmed and started airing, and turned 20 that spring. I only remember because she's just a few months older than me!

Buffy is the predecessor to "Supernatural," "Lucifer," and all of the dark "dramedy" (Joss coined the term) that came after. There are even college courses to discuss the philosophy presented by the seven seasons of the show.

The series is a soft reboot of the 1992 movie of the same name. It covers Buffy's origins of becoming The Slayer. Minor details were changed for the series and the cast is entirely different, but since Buffy moved from L.A. to Sunnydale between then two, they are all new characters anyway with the exception of Buffy and her mom.

@@wesleylackman258 I like Liam Duke and Aftershow Reactions and there are a bunch of others I´ve watched that are new to Buffy too(Torchwood Boy is another good one) but they all know roughly what it´s about, they´ve heard of a lot of the characters before. Ally doesn´t seem to know anything at all, maybe I´m wrong, she did know the name Angel in the next episode, but she seemed to know a lot less beforehand than most people do. Since Buffy is a huge cult series that a lot of people will have heard a bunch about even if they havn´t seen it, it would be fun to watch someone experience it for the first time with no clues about any of it.

Big Bad is a term for villains introduced in this show, that was later used by many shows. Among other things, like the team dynamic of a trio and a wise mentor. Buffy, Xander, Willow and Giles. The thing about Buffy having trouble at her forme school, is a indirect reference to the Buffy movie, that inspired the series.
It was cool how you recognized so many of the actors, but I flipped when you mentioned "Coherence". Extra points!

Fun fact! Buffy summers was named after "The Buffy Coat". It is the layer of anti coagulated blood cells that contains mostly white blood cells. So in a way she is a reference to the body's natural defense system, and shes a bad ass super hero saving the world from vampires. Pretty cool stuff.

I just finished watching the series finale and I found this, great timing. It's exciting to watch someone getting into this for the first time. I didn't know this channel before this video but I'm all here for your Buffy reactions, I can tell this is one of the best shows I ever watched and I hope you like it as much as I do :)
P.S. Just a recommendation: try to find the version that originally aired instead of the HD remaster 'cause otherwise you won't completely appreciate the original vision of the creators.

@@alleybox Oh the movie is Legend. Whedon lost control and desperately wanted the series after. Funny though, we're talking classic actor, getting on in years, deliberately messing up every line and they all had to scramble to fit. Plus there are some Whedon moments that are unmistakable. Peewee Herman, Luke Perry lots of camp. If you want the original of course there's a comic but still a fun and silly watch.
