Back in the day, shopping and eating when traveling was an adventure. It was exciting to discover new tastes and interesting local shops. Seems like the Algarve is catering to "familiarity" for American travelers and the like. Pitty the locals don't yet understand how that will change their culture and overtime create "sameness."
The globalization of American fast food is everywhere virtually every country , and it’s very popular with the locals Maria . In addition there are a large number of Indian restaurants in every town along the Algarve have a great weekend Cheers 🇨🇦☕️🇵🇹🍷

I am very glad that such places like BK, TB etc. are to be found everywhere... most importantly for the young generation. It is a good place for them to meet friends and not spend much money. Here in Zurich I love to meet young people just in such places. Please believe me, no country does have these food-palaces because of American travelers and the like. The locals are not naive at all and they know well how to cultivate their culture...
Me and my granddaughter we enjoyed the top terrace back in October , and yes I brought some pastel de Nata with me to USA and put them in the freezer and than I saw at Costco that are made in Portugal frozen I took out the one I brought from Portugal and one I bought at Costco such a difference the custard is so grainy not near as good as the original,and supposed to be made in Portugal. @@ThisIsOurRetirement Actually I have to thank you , if it wasn’t for You I wouldn’t have never been there it’s a beautiful place and at that time in October it wasn’t so many people either so it was perfect ,heard from the local people the worst time to come in to Albufeira is in August that at that time is just like a zoo . I fly to Faro on Sat 17th. 2hrs remains from my Home in Belfast. And as I've already stayed in Tavira, Faro, Vilamoura, Quarteria, Ferragudo, Praia Da Rocha, Alvor &Lagos... Over the past few years. Ive decided to try, Olhao. Around 20 mins drive from the Airport. It looks Beautiful. And has a Train Station, right in the City. You Two will probably have returned Home, by then. Love your Algarve Vlogs on TH-cam.

You're doing a good job of rebranding Albufeira as a more desirable base for the Algarve. It's reputation for being a party town infested with drunken foreigners kept me far, far away from there last time I visited. I now see that it there is much more to the place than that single aspect. Great video and you're not lying about the blue sky, wow!
I agree with the above. As an expat living in northern Portugal, I have shunned Albufeira for the reasons cited here but generally love Algarve. Have you (Norm and Tina) ever been in Albufeira in-season (when the yobbos flock) and if so, how was that experience?

Beautiful outdoor patio to take away from the disease giving N American junk food options. Type 2 diabetes and obesity welcome to Portugal. Very sad the diet is moving away from Mediterranean fresh vegetables and fish options. Invariably means a person with type 1 diabetes and coeliac ( no tostadas possible!) always has to eat at home or take an insulated picnic hamper. 😢

We are just leaving Albufeira after a 1 week stay. Thank you for your videos. My husband and I are almost retired and your videos convinced us to visit on our vacation to explore The Algarve for a place to go in the winter. We did arrive during the very rare tropical storm last week and even though the weather has not been as sunny, we enjoyed exploring Albufeira (our home base), Sagres, Lagos, and Portimao. We kept looking for you at the Albufeira Terrace and on the beach! We were not as fortunate as others from the comments 😂. Just a quick question , why did you choose Albufeira over Lagos and Portimao (both we liked as well)? We look forward every weekend to watching your latest video. How do you avoid looking like American/Canadian tourists while you stay long term in winter

Is there a part of that town that is better to stay in? Or likewise areas that might best be avoided? I am seriously thinking of going there next winter.
It’s a great place but we are not recommending anywhere as everyone has different needs , however near the strip would be noisy 🍷🇨🇦🙂🇵🇹
Really pleased you’re having a good time. We have a holiday home in Guia, just 15 minutes from Albufeira. Where did you get your senior bus pass from and how much did it cost please?
Got the pass from Albufeira bus terminal, was €5 for the card and €12 for the rides for a calendar month €17 total, you need proof of age they asked for a passport.

My wife and I have a home in Albufeira. Always impressed how the local government invests back in the community. As others have mentioned, there is much, much more to Albufeira than a bar scene. In fact there is essentially something for everyone, whatever your interest. Another huge bonus for us is that virtually any service you need is within walking distance! That is truly a lifestyle changing attribute.
You have chosen some beautiful vistas to show us! Pastel de nata is a Portuguese delicacy.

So nice seeing you enjoying your time. It certainly has changed since my first visit in 1987. LOL. The fake wall was a real cliff we had to climb down. There were no escalators or Marina.
My husband and I were there last year, and don't recall those steps going down the cliff. I'll have to go back and look at my videos. Your last shot on the beach looking up is where we stay at Cerro Blanco. Almost two months March and April are 2400 Euro. So affordable for a beautiful spot.

Hi. Have the prices increased significantly within last 18-24 months? My main concern is the accomodation, even in the off season. I read the war has brought a lot of Russians/Ukrainians into the region, so difficult to find something reasonably priced on the Airbnb even during the winter. What is your experience ?
Hotel prices are more and rising again for next year, we mean the aparthotels that we stay in. Some people we have met said they got Airbnb apartments for €800 per month but we couldn’t find any, the going rate seems to be €1500 to €2000 for a one bedroom. Good luck

I have been in Albufeira for 10 days now, just love it!! I am staying in a condo which is amazing but expensive. I know you have said that you stay in aparthotels which seem to be much less expensive, but so many to choose from! I am wondering if there are any that you would recommend.
We don’t want to recommend anywhere Maureen , the cost has gone up hugely this year in Aparthotels and we think they are now expensive to stay in , enjoy your stay 🇨🇦🙂🇵🇹
Happy Saturday Tina and Norm, we shopped there a few times when we were in that area last year, it’s a pretty nice shopping centre but the outdoor parking is a bit tight. There is also a Pingo Doce right across from Continente.

Hi Tina and Norm. Wow, the views of that beach are amazing. I would kill to be able to walk down a beach that goes on and on. It's (6c) in Montreal. We are gonna drop down to (-15c) in the coming overnights. So brutal Montreal February is not over yet. However, it has been in the dingle positives during the days and we've had the windows pen each day since. Unseasonably warm here as of late. The snow is all mostly melted. I started our building property Spring clean outside yesterday.

Would you consider Albufeira similar to the Dominican Republic? Flights from Canada to Faro do seem to have several hours of stopovers.

Hi Tina and Norm, thank you for sharing what’s new in Albufeira. I’m from Wisconsin and moved to Madeira island 2.5 years ago. And now I’m thinking of moving to The Algarve, to give me more flexibility for traveling. Albefeira has been crossed off my list because of the reputation it has for partiers. As a fellow retiree, that’s not my scene. But you’ve got me rethinking Albefeira. Could you see living there full time?
No Nancy we couldn’t, summertime would be wild and extremely busy, but living outside in the country like Ferreiras or Silves might work for us. Good luck with your move.

Not for me. I like to shop at the farmer's market in Lagos on Wednesday evening abd Saturday morning or the Saturday market in Olhao. Not interested in shopping malls. I hope the traditions can remain.
For those of us who don't do well on stairs or climbing hills, how does one enjoy the old city, or does one stick to the new city?
They have two sets of escalators one going down and the other up 🙂to the old town and beach 🏝️
The Algarve Shopping Centre is a great place to visit also. We are currently staying near the’Strip’ for February

I wonder what it took to have the terrace put in. My small town is on the st clair River and there's a strip mall across the street from a board walk. A terrace on top would have a great view of the river n ships going by .
Hi Tina and Norm, thanks for this latest video from my fav city. So many things have changed. I was there in 2021 & 2022 loved it. I also remember the old stairs they were not very safe at all, loving the new ones. At times one had to walk down or up because the elevator did not work. The more I see of your videos the more I want to move there for good. Albufeira is so central you can be in Lisboa or Sevilla in under 4 hours. Be safe and keep the videos coming. The renovated Continente mall is beautiful…….🤗🇨🇦

😍 I loved the video of the area near the stairs/elevator. We were there a year ago and fell in love with that green-tiled building. What a bold pop of color in all the white! So fun to see that area again in your video ♥️
