This is my favorite type of photo editing, creating composites. Excellent tips.

How did you cut the subject so well out of her original background? It looks really clean.

Definitely has became my favorite photo editing tool. I used to be a big Lightroom fan, but when they decided to "rent" their software, I began to look for better alternatives, and a friend turned me on to On1 about 7 years ago, and they have dramatically upped their game since then.

I learned a little more about using blend modes and would love to have a deeper understanding of them, but I know we were seeing only the tip of the iceberg in terms of the steps required to produce these results. Selecting images with suitable background colours to make the blends work and perfecting the cutout of the uke holding lady made achieving the results appear more straightforward than would be the case if all the ducks had not been lined up in a row. I felt like I was in a magician's audience seeing the show, rather than backstage seeing it from the magician's perspective.

We do have a quite a few deeper dives into blend modes in our ON1 Plus video course library.

Am I right to think the lady don't fit in this scene (proportion wise) because she is either too large or too far into the landscape?

but how do I put a second image into my image, to blend it? How does it work to get a second layer with a second image?

You can choose the Layer menu and then Choose Add Layer from File.
