    I heartily agree with your assessment of both the Sailor 1911 Standard, and the Pilot Custom 74. I had my Custom 74 a good while before I obtained a 1911 Large, and even though I thought the 74 was my favorite, I surprised myself at how much better I liked the 1911 Large. My handwriting just looks better with the Sailor!
    Thanks for the nice review.

    I own a Sailor 1911L with a Fine nib. I am fascinated by how much I liked it, and decided not to buy any other brand than Sailor. Then I ordered a Sailor 1911S with a Medium nib. It will arrive tomorrow! This makes me excited.

      I really like the Sailor medium nib because it performs so well with inks that have a low saturation and don't tend to perform as well in a fine nib. I also like the shading I get from the medium. However, I've never written with a Sailor 21k fine nib. That's one I'd like to try. I hope you enjoy the medium nib. 😀

    oh, that pen is truly beautiful! that ivory and gold reminds me of an old furniture set my grandmother used to own. seems like you really got the whole package there. i've always had great experiences with sailor products in the past, their quality is great.

      I have been more than happy with the quality of Sailor pens. Every other pen that I own has at least one characteristic that I wish I could change, but not this one!

    Hahaha! “I got over that.” That was so funny! It happens to most of us I think. I find a favorite, then I find another favorite and so on, and so on. My Sailor nibs have more feed than my other pens also. But I love them like that.

      As my tastes have become more refined, at least I know what it is that I like and it's easier to find those favorite pens. 🤓

    Very informative, thanks.
    As a new member of Team Sailor, I would love to hear any and all judgments you have about how different inks perform in any of your Sailor pens. I'm still working on my interpretation of wet vs. dry, smooth vs. feedbacky.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You're welcome, Ichiro.
      I know what you mean - wet and dry are tricky adjectives when describing fountain pens and ink. I've used wet inks that feel dry and dry nibs that feel nice and smooth.
      Also, I recently learned that my sister has a couple new Sailor pens with nibs in sizes that I don't have. I think it's time to do a Sailor nib comparison (if she'll let me borrow them for a day 🤞).

    I know Platinum nibs have feedback, but I've never heard that about Sailor. The reputation that I've heard is that Sailor has extremely smooth nibs, and that's certainly been my experience.

    • @gadgetstop321

      My Sailor and Platinum fine nibs have quite a bit of feedback, but I find the medium nibs from each to be pleasant.

    I was always between Pro Gear Slim and 1911 standard, and just when I thought that everything was very clear in my mind, you posted this video !
    Now it's the same again:
    Pro Gear Slim or 1911 ????
    (I think I'll go for a blue 1911, Pro gear slim seems too small for me)

    Your Sailor FP is just gorgeous! I've never thought of getting a white pen because I always seem to get "inky fingers" when I write, and I'd hate to mess up a pretty pen like this. Do you worry about getting ink on your pen? I also have the Lamy Dark Lilac. Do you have the Lamy Azurite ink? It's a pretty good match to the pen. Thanks for reviewing your pen, Ginger

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you! I use an ink syringe to put ink in my pens so I didn't even stop to think about it having a white section. I would never ink this pen up directly from a bottle.
      ...and I don't have Lamy Azurite - I'll have to check it out.

    • @monarchsfly8
      @monarchsfly8 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've only used my ink syringe for my eyedropper pens. Maybe I'll rethink about getting a white FP. Thanks for mentioning that. And I've had my Lamy Dark Lilac inked up with Lamy Azurite ever since I found this ink. I guess I've become one of those people that like to match their inks to their pens, lol. Happy Sunday, Ginger

    Madam, I am confused about buying Lamy 2k fine or Sailor 1911 large MF nib ,lamy seems like a robust pen to me.., do sailor's body resist scratches?? If I give 8 for custom 74 .,how smooth sailor would be for wet inks out of 10?? Thank you .. I am subbed!! Continue the good work 💪👌..

    • @gadgetstop321

      I've never used a Lamy 2000, but just from watching videos from other reviewers, the Lamy 2000 seems more durable. The plastic that Sailor uses seems durable, but the style of the Sailor's pens are more delicate than the Lamy 2000.
      If the Custom 74 was 8 out of 10 for smoothness, I would give the Sailor a 5 out of 10.
      I hope this is helpful, and thank you for your kind words.

      Hi Naarayan U,
      I have both Lamy 2k EF and Sailor 1911 Large MF. The Lamy 2k is really smooth gold nib with very little feedback. The Sailor Pen just has their graphite like feedback where you feel the paper as you write. The Lamy line width are (0.1 mm) wider than all the other fountain pen brands. Eg {(0.3 mm vs Lamy 0.4mm EF) (0.4 mm vs Lamy's 0.5 mm F) (0.5mm vs Lamy's 0.6 mm M)} Also keep in mind that Sailor pen is a dry writing pen vs Lamy's 2k which is a wet writer.

      @@genelo6890 Thank you Gene Lo..Sailor seems like my pen.. how do you compare the writing experience of both pens in poorer quality papers?? Is the 2k grip slippery??and sorry for asking much but is Sailor MF finer than lamy steel EF ?? #stay safe and let's hope for a safer world..

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      My TWSBI Mini with a fine nib is the smoothest writing pen that I own. My Fuliwen 017 with a medium nib is also very smooth, however it doesn't write as well as the TWSBI due to over polishing.

    I'm so unfamiliar with Sailor. I've learned most about the Chinese pens due to the low investment costs. Do you recommend some other TH-cam folks that so I can expand my knowledge? That Sailor looks really comfortable in the hand.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend these TH-camrs if you are interested in Sailor fountain pens: sbrebrown, gourmetpens, figboot, pensandtea, penhabit. If you are interested in an entry level pen from Sailor, I would recommend the Pro Color 500.

    • @genelo6890
      @genelo6890 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Barrett,
      I would recommend PEN BOY ROY CHANNEL, GOULET PENS along with what Gadgetstop321 recommended.
      Just keep in mind fountain pen friendly paper like Tomae paper, Rhodia, Claire Fontaine Along with Japanese papers make a big difference in your writing experience when you compare it to cheap copier paper.
      If you are buying any thing fountain pen related, I strongly recommend PEN CHALET in Mesa Arizona. With Ashland10 discount code you get a 10% discount. They have the best price along with the best customer service. Endless pens has better prices but I don't know about their customer service.

    What makes an ink wet or dry? Is it more or less lubricant in the ink? Beautiful pen wet or dry.

    • @gadgetstop321
      @gadgetstop321  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe wetter inks have more lubricant in them. I've heard that Vanness Pens sells an ink additive called White Lightning that you add to dry inks to improve flow. However, my problem isn't flow, it just feels dry. I may give it a try.
