I thought you were going to cold start it?. These engines have an overload trip connected to the fuel pump rack, a small plunger that you lift up when the speed control is in the start position. One of the best HR’s I’ve seen. Nice set up too.
Nice set up. The Lister engine should be trouble free as they are very reliable and basically bulletproof. The HR3 is around 45 h.p @ 2000rpm so I can only imagine it's alternator is rated over 20kw as it could run this easily. Enjoy!
Sweet set up, and as you've stated it sits a lot so air cooled is the way to go. A few suggestions to make life easier. One and diesel Stabil fuel stabilizer, or one of the othe diesel fuel stabilizers so the diesel will remain fresh and stability. Second, fairly cheep is a magnetic block heater and attach it to the pan, not too hot, or high wattage of one, but just something that will heat the oil to around 160F. You'll find in the winter it will fire right up and more importantly have full lubrication within seconds. It's not something you use year round, just in the winter months. 3rd. Use the best grade of diesel oil you can afford, and not a multi viscosity, mostly likely Lister recommends a straight 30wt oil. Reason is air-cooled engines have looser tolerances and so you want to avoid 10-30wt, or 10-40wt oils, because a multi viscosity will never have the same viscosity as a straight 30wt. Air-cooled aircraft engines use straight weight oils, like Aeroshell 100, straight 50wt oil. Lot of Harley riders use the Aeroshell 100, 50wt in the summers to keep from frying their engines. Exception to this rule, are the Honda Air-cooled motors that come on everything they use a 10-30wt. Awesome find and set up. With the loads you're pulling it will likely out live you!
Scott Pecora thanks for the tips. I have tried one of those oil pan heaters and it doesn't even begin to warm this thing it holds something like 12 liters of oil and has a big heavy oil pan. I tossed that heater in the junk using that oil pan heater on the lister was like trying to heat my house with a candle lol
1teddy1979 my only other thought is try using a magnetic block heater and just attach to the side of the oil pan. from the pictures looks like you could find a spot.
Think that's what it would be? I have no idea some real bright person that had it before me ripped all tags off of it I have no idea what make the generator even is. Too bad for me if I need parts
Super nice set-up! Will the Lister run on 100% veggi/waste oil?? Or a mix of the 2?? Is the 100 amp service enough for your home? It looks like you have a lot on this service. Thanks.
brad zee it would probably run on 100% used oil for a short time but probably not well and I wouldn't think it would be good from a reliability stand point. as far as 100 amp being enough I don't know what I could possibly have running to need more. I have run dryer 4 burners and oven on stove hot water heater fridge water pump lights and it didn't even seem to work the old lister
@@andrewtiefry5990 okay well I'm sure it's at least 20. I can turn everything on the house dryer oven 4 burner stove hot water heater 3/4 hp water pump fridge freezer and it doesn't even phase it
Vito Nowicki thanks I got it from a farmer that got it with the farm when he bought it bit then once he had the farm for a few years he was putting up a new barn so this generator was not going to be big enough to supply his back up needs in the event of an power outage so he had bought a new bigger one
Vito Nowicki sometimes I think about selling it because it sits so much but as I write this it is purring away out in the barn there was a wind storm must be some power lines down as the hydro has been out for an hour or more so far. so it is really nice to have even though it is actually only needed maybe a few times a year. where are you located? I have seen similar ones at a decent price since then but wasn't really interested because I had no use for 2
Thank you! I have no evidence but i think this has very low engine run hours on it because when i change the oil it always stays clean which for me is unheard of with every other diesel engine i have owned
@@christophermccourry i have not. Usually the Mennonites around here snatch them all up but i guess i just happened to see this one for sale at the right time and it was definatly the right price

Oh ya it was unneeded this is a very good cold starter at least down to -10c

It sounds like a six cylinder truck motor. It appears to have independent heads. Great for working on.

Scott Pecora ya that is the kind I had a magnetic one I had it stuck right on the bottom of the pan but it was just not even close to enough heat
Scott Pecora I could see those working on a car that has a tin oil pan and only holds 4 or 5 litres of oil but it just wasn't enough for this
Looks like a 20 kW nice little generator more then a enough nice work

Like the system. It does look like most of your exhaust is leaking inside though
Loverly Job - Lots of scope for capturing heat/ scrubbing exhaust - cooled exhaust is much quieter too!
Nice interlock. I like it.
THAT IS LOUD. WOW
Ya that is why I put it in the back of my barn at the back of the property. Can't hear it in the house
Very nice set up. Looks like a 30kw Lima generator head.
Thanks and thanks for the info
Sounds like an actuall genset like a 6 cylinder or even a low revving v12 cat.
Ya you are right it has a real deep tone like a lot bigger engine

Run on any filtered oil, no problems at all, designed for crude fuel.
I have a couple of lister gensets yours is a 10 or 12 kw
Thanks for your guess but this is a hr3 lister which is around 35hp so I would guess it is at least 20kw probably a bit more though
