Minor mistake spotted! The red plastic lane divider, you know the one that has only plastic on one side actually goes on the other way so the rubber is on the right side, so on the lane the allows you the ball save with a little bump. Also did you check the flasher bulb in the corkscrew, it was hard to see if it was actually working. I have this machine at home, got it totally trashed and brought it back to life, and actually built my own led displays and display driver board for it. Has been a lot of fun ever since. Cheers Ron, was a nice repair video as usually!
As a teenager I worked at a Chocolate themed amusement park. We had a wooden roller coaster called the Comet. We had several Comet machines in the arcade. All of them were worn within an inch of their lives. I don't know anyone that doesn't like this machine. Super fun. Try PC7 two part epoxy on those holes. It works great. Not as fast as your repair, but it will bond anything permanently. You can fill that slot in and redrill the hole. The military uses it. It's made in PA. I have seen PC7 used for some crazy stuff. I was always .. that's never going to work.... and it always did. The list of things the manufacturer states is just crazy. I have used it to fix cracked old steering wheels. It is amazing stuff.
Great video Ronnie, Thank you so much for fixing my comet. That was cool on how you fixed the out lane. It plays great and everyone who comes over loves the comet. Thanks again Ronnie See you on the next video.
What a great way to start the day….another very enjoyable video. Thanks Ronnie….Joey needs to elaborate a bit with his notes for you! Have a great day.
The awesome light show when you hit the Million point shot is sooo cool. Neat thing the programmers added was to flash the comma after 1 million on the display to let people know you got the Million point shot.
Back in the day, I rode the Comet roller coaster in Crystal Beach Ontario CA .. (it’s now in Great Escape park in New York State). A truly favorite classic ride, first built in the late 40s.
My brother has one! His has some defective displays and torn plastics (orange spiral gutter, and yes the original is orange, not black) but it plays just fine! He recreated decals for the drop targets, awesome game!
Hey Ron, Im not trying to come off like I know better than anyone else, because Ive not actually attempted it myself, but apparently you can polish mylar to take a lot of the clouding out. People on pinside have had great success with a product called Plastx and those foam polish pads made for drills. You probably already have heard of this, but I thought Id pass that along. Love your channel.
This game was cool when it came out played this game a lot. But when cyclone came out in 1988 it blew this pinball machine away. Better gameplay and better sounds. Love the video.
I enjoy these videos. Interesting to see how these things work. You all ever build your own pinball game? Seems like it would be within your skill set? Hope to see more videos!
Comet is one of the all time great games! Williams did an incredible job with the sound effects on this game... They're perfect for the game and have some good humor. Overall it is such a great playing game. Most of them you see these days are either beat to hell, or have been restored. They got played a LOT back in the day.
A friend of mine had a Comet PB game at his mini mart I lived across the street RIP Alex. We would play it until we got proficient and bored after about 4 or 5 million games, then ask the game supplier for a new game, Hey buddy over here, whooo! What a game.
Boy does this game feel fast. Once the ball gets down to the lower playfield it seems to really move fast and the design of the left lanes will whip the ball right back to left flipper real fast. It looks like fun.
I've been waiting for this one. I saw it off to the side in the other video. I like the 3 Williams fair games - Comet, Cyclone, and Hurricane. I'd probably lean toward Hurricane but all are fun. Good tip on the light socket tab - I'm guessing you cut power before you bent it back up. I like seeing a few of these where you're just fixing a few things for customers. Nice change of pace from the full restore ones.
Ron to fix the bad hole . Use a piece of dowel drill a bigger hole but still smaller than the post size. And glue in a piece of dowel then just make a new screw hole in it after all is dry.
14:30 That customer loves this machine to put a new driver board and MPU in it. Great sounds on this pin. For me, it's good sounds or the game just doesn't cut it for me.
I remember this one when I was in college. If I recall, there's a guy that taunts you to hit his target--when you do, he yells, falls into a pool of water
One of the coolest game of that era. I think, I've played this at arcade Hall of an amusement park. It has cool feature. When you make that million jump on that bike jump ramp, the first number of your score begins To blink. Williams implemented this feature to some SYS 11 games.
If the toothpick trick wont work, you can also try the sawdust & wood glue trick or if you need something stronger, use clear 2 stage epoxy. Another trick that works especially well on plastic is the baking soda + superglue trick. It's even sandable & paintable!
you can also enlarge the hole to about 1/4 inch. Then drive in a piece of dowel with glue. A little bit of clean up and presto, new wood to put a screw in. Similar to the toothpick trick but for bigger damage.
I have an old 1969 Action pinball game by Chicago Coin Company. One of the holes for the plastic standoffs got a bit rounded out. Instead of doing the toothpick trick, they just drilled a new hole 1/2" to the side so the standoff bumper is outside the plastic cover. (Which totally messes with the gameplay.) I wish they hadn't done that. I can fix it, using the toothpick trick, but now I'll have a small hole in the painted part of the playfield. And if I patch it, I doubt if I can color match the paint.
BTW, I learned the toothpick trick while stage managing ice shows. The ice skaters would come off the ice in a panic and yell, "My blade is loose!" So I would run over, pull out the loose screw, put some wood slivers in the hole and replace the screw so that they could finish the show. Worked every time.
Nah, can't really offend me. I grew up back in the day with all the jokes that are now horrid. I grew up with Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Cheech and Chong, the Dice Man, Buddy Hackett (oh lord that guy was off the chain), and so many others. Today? yea, they'd be cancelled. Too bad. Nah, not going to offend me very easily there Ron. Keep up the good work. One of these days SWMBO will cave and I'll have a couple machines in my house. Need to get other things finished though...
I wonder if the artist got any inspiration from Garbage Pail Kids. If this game came out in 1985 that was the same year as the first series of GPK. Or maybe that was just the style at that time. It looks a little like mid-80's Mad Magazine as well
That's Python Anghelo I think it was just a particular style at the time, he did a ton of them like that. Very intersesting guy, there's actually some footage of him here on youtube, he was an eccentric for sure.
Wondering why the new rottendog cpu, driver pcb is upside down in this machine?? I guess it’s suitable for a few different games but the screw holes and the writing are upside down. Maybe it’s made for us Australians , would be fine down here…😅
Williams did that... They basically changed how they wanted the thing mounted in the games and it made all the test on the boards upside down :) The later System 11 games were usually mounted the other way around where you could read it
Thanks for the reply, enjoy your videos, a case of two wrongs make a right. I fix pinnies here in OZ for a hobby. Merry Christmas Joe’s classic videos.

Sounds like Hersheypark. They still have a Comet pinball
Definitely Hersheypark! I haven't been since I was a kid! Is the rumor that in Hershey PA they piped chocolate scent through the ligh poles?
@@TrapperAaron rumor denied. The main plant is just offices now. Everything is made at The West Hershey Plant and Reese's. Or offshore... 😞
Hersheypark! They still have one and it’s playing pretty well.
Great video Ronnie, Thank you so much for fixing my comet. That was cool on how you fixed the out lane. It plays great and everyone who comes over loves the comet. Thanks again Ronnie See you on the next video.
I'm glad people are enjoying it Frank! Merry Christmas!
I have a Cyclone pinball. Have enjoyed it for the last 21 years. I enjoyed your download keep up the good work.
What a great way to start the day….another very enjoyable video. Thanks Ronnie….Joey needs to elaborate a bit with his notes for you! Have a great day.
Comet and Cyclone are some of my favorites. The art work is the best.
I still laugh every time when you do the "It's broke" bit.
What bit?
That's a nice playing game. Sounds are pleasant and not over the top, and there some go action all around the field too. Very nice!
The awesome light show when you hit the Million point shot is sooo cool. Neat thing the programmers added was to flash the comma after 1 million on the display to let people know you got the Million point shot.
This game looks fun as hell!. The sound is almost as crazy as the art work!

ℍ𝔼𝕐! 𝕋𝕌ℝ𝕂𝔼𝕐! ℂ'𝕄𝕆ℕ, ℍ𝕀𝕋 𝕄𝔼! Ahhhh, the memories....
Suggestion: a video showing the entire play process of a machine - how the game WORKS. Goals, winning conditions, etc.
Another EPIC video Joe. God bless you for sharing...
Comet is one of my favorite Williams games to work on. And even with no multiball, it's still a blast to play.
I really want to play this one! Great video and thanks for filming it.
Now this one is one I'd love to own so cool.
This has awesome action up top and I love the ramps and the lights are good and the sound is classic
Hey Ron, Im not trying to come off like I know better than anyone else, because Ive not actually attempted it myself, but apparently you can polish mylar to take a lot of the clouding out. Yeah I think that would be the way to go in most cases, taking it off is a nightmare! Thanks for watching Ellrick!
Comet was the #1 pinball game of 1985. :D
This game was cool when it came out played this game a lot. But when cyclone came out in 1988 it blew this pinball machine away. Better gameplay and better sounds. Love the video.
Two of my favorite Williams machines Comet and of course the cyclone, so much fun. great job as always, Ron you are the master tech.
I enjoy these videos. Interesting to see how these things work. You all ever build your own pinball game? Seems like it would be within your skill set? Hope to see more videos!
Always love the Williams machines and how often they reuse sounds from their video games. This one has some from Joust and Defender,
Love the center post.

LOVE the sound scheme on this one!! Great audio. LOVE when the machine mutters '...idiot!!' - LOL!

Awesome video and great score. I played a different copy of that game a few hours ago and didn't score nearly as well.
Boy does this game feel fast. Once the ball gets down to the lower playfield it seems to really move fast and the design of the left lanes will whip the ball right back to left flipper real fast. It looks like fun.
@The backplate artwork on this machine looks like something a Mad Magazine artist would have painted!
Com’on turkey, hit me!🤣Awesome game😄
Job well done, acknowledging John!😂😂😂
Love the video, great pinball!

@@googpix540 right, but it would blow the fuse.

A t-nut is another option when the wood screw hole is worn out. T-nuts were used by factory in places that needed a sturdy post.
I remember this one when I was in college. If I recall, there's a guy that taunts you to hit his target--when you do, he yells, falls into a pool of water
Would that have been Nosker House on the north campus of The OhioState University?
@@timk987 No, it'd have been at Ball State

Schrödinger’s Ball: When you’re in a state of simultaneously losing and not losing your ball.

You had mentioned you had an old non electric pinball game at your house. Those ever come through your shop I'd love to see one profiled.
I think "John" is a teller of tall tales! I've had my Comet for years on 5 ball and can't touch 10mil
hahaha we'll never know :)
Used to play the crap out of this game. There was many times i thought the ball was going to break the playfield glass because it would hit often
you can also enlarge the hole to about 1/4 inch. Then drive in a piece of dowel with glue. A little bit of clean up and presto, new wood to put a screw in. Similar to the toothpick trick but for bigger damage.
Art work looks like a Mad magazine cover
Hey Ron!!
A lot of "High speed" influence in that game.
Making a list checking it twice going to find out what is broke and good.
Santa Claus Is Coming To Town!
Broke= A Pole Turtle 🐢 😆
Could you drill the chipped out hole larger and glue in larger dowel in the hole. Then drill for the bumper post.
That MPU and Driver board would cost a lot. You have to check that the PCB fab plant is able to get blanks large enough to make those.

Oh yeah tell me about it. Mylar off the project F14 now and we’re into week 2 of Goo Gone…..
A wire wheel will make short work of that rust, and should be done to stop it spreading.
Come on down

Ya know if Joe is doing good in game it must be rigged 😙
So this is the predecessor to Hurricane??
Hey Ron...is it a YT thing or me thing? I get alerts you replied (twice now) but I'm not seeing the replies here. Hmmm...

It's nearly impossible to get good diagnostic data from customers. The ones smart enough to pay attention usually fix it themselves.
