U can’t beat a tailored map tuned live on a dyno session,these boxes are ok but but can’t compete with a “properly mapped ecu” BMW can tell if the car has had a box fitted even after its been removed by looking at the shadow data stored in the cars ecu ie: max rpm,max boost Kia,max fuel pressure delivered,ignition timing parameters plus the gearbox ecu stores various torque figures etc,these cannot be cleared with most scan tools available. But on the plus side quick and easy to fit/remove and transferable to other vehicles with a reasonable price for the results. Pull all the stops out Ricky and showcase this M4 with all the latest tuning mods,I’m sure all the contacts u have now will help u out with some goodies in return for some airtime! Keep up the good work ✌🏼

Numbers do indeed lie on the dyno. They can be manipulated easily. As easy as running it in a different gear

@@AnotherTH-camr460 well not really sir, if both days are dry and temperatures are roughly the same the outcome will always be very similar or thereabouts!
Many variables like rain and snow will give very different times, but infact consistent reliable cars will run similar tests back to back! If conditions are the same.
u will find a fwd car that runs 10s at pod in Febuary, will still run 10s consistently in august :)

I’ve had mine for about 6 months and just think it’s set up so well as standard. I wouldn’t mind a lowering spring kit but that’s it.
Heard bad things with spacers, your body work will get smashed to pieces from stone chips. Otherwise, alcantara steering wheel and Cup 2’s for summer! Come to Spa! Much more fun than London. 👌🏻
I feel the comp pack m4 is perfectly balanced. I too was thinking about lowering the car but don't want to mess up the handling so kept it all stock. I did however fit 12mm spacers front & back and havent had any stone chip issues. I do have the OEM rear wheel arch paint protection film fitted.
Lads have had mine dropped 30mm...and 12mm/15mm spacers at Motech.
5000 miles. No damage no stone chips and handling is so so much better!
B15SDMDESIGNS this is interesting! I read online that some people has spacers and post winter had realised that grit has marred their paint work due to the additional overlap of the tyres out of the arches. Have you driven the car over winter yet? I have a half wrap from Topaz so including side sills etc. Expensive but has saved my front end when doing 70mph...

S WB Cant really remember costs. I had lots done...sorry. Had the car G-Techniq'd when new and no marring or marks etc. I drive hundreds of miles on salty roads up and down to Manchester from London. If it does mark it I don't look at its ass and it's not a garage queen. I drive the doors off it! Mine is on the Motech TH-cam page San Marino Blue. V100 plate. Also I ran an M2 for over a year putting about 20,000 miles on it thumping down and back to Switzerland all times of year. Spacers, Motech Stance setup. Not a problem. At full speed on Autpbhan it handled about 30% more stable than on standard springs with no skipping about. Also always run Cups 👍👍👌

Had a tdi tuning box fitted at the Chelmsford branch a while ago on my 2016 335d not the best idea I’ve ever had some days the car would be fine others it would hold back and misfire went back and got it removed as it was very disappointing went to Dyno developments in Stevenage had the car On the rolling road and a remap 100% improvement over the box

Just beware Ricky, BMW will still be able to tell the car has had a “box” fitted, even if it’s removed completely, if there is a power train warranty claim, the car logs everything, and will show higher than regular boost levels etc and these are all stored in the ecu. Big brother is always watching. 😐

A tuning box lies to your ecu, modifying the signal. For example boost: stock lets say 1.4 bar, tuning box reads that, modifies it, sends out lets say 1.2 to the ecu, ecu says lets crank that shit up because its not 1.4, sends it to the actuator, sensor now says 1.6bar, box modifies again now to 1.4, sends to ecu, ecu happy... It does this to a variety of sensors, interrupting signals so the ecu thinks and reads everyting is stock. This way no signals should be stored as abnormal.
I hope Ricky charges Top dollar for the advertising TDI tuning going to get from this video and a free chip box thats £10000 Worth of you tube advertising if ever I saw it
The ECU might log everything, but it's being lied to so it logs what it thinks is normal. That's how the box works.
Quite a few people have bought these, tried them before and after on a dyno and do absolutely nothing, seen quite a few with them plugged in, turned right up and only making the same or less HP. Can't beat a proper rolling road remap with before and after runs
520+ is a big claims for remaps, let alone tuning box. Might wanna pop down to the dyno.

These boxes are still detectable, the ECU logs the max/min levels seen on multiple sensors. It doesn't take long for BMW to check what its been boosting to etc. No tuning is warranty safe.
I've also never seen a tuning box make the quoted figures.
6years ago I got a TDi tuning box for a 2.0 Leon FR diesel (170 stock, 200 claimed) and can happily say it did sod all to the car's performance. I even tested it against a stock of mine and we were neck & neck the entire time.

I've seen loads of engines producing more than the quoted tuning box figures if ran on premium fuel.

My brothers 140i bmw just made 471bhp and 500lbft it comes in low down in the revs on the graf but actually doesn’t fall on its face like you would expect just feels outrageously fast even when the auto gear box is banging through the gears at 6500rpm
This “engineer” around 14:19 says each stage of the 1-7 numbers depicted is about a ~5 (give or take, depending on the car) hp increase but 7 x 5 = 35 and 435hp (“engineer”’s car as an example) + 35hp = 470hp and not “...525 easily on this tune”.
Also, always dyno and race! A good race always gives things away. I’ve seen more than a few people get these “tuning boxes” and TDI ‘s too in specific and I’ve never been able to tell the difference and when I raced a mate with the same car as myself, who had a TDI, he ended up losing consecutively! His car was slower - more good than bad it seems.

I think if I ever brought a car brand new this would be the route I would take, just makes sense trying to save your warranty and avoid unwanted bills.
Tbh this is a bit of an eye opener to tuning boxes for me as I’ve always had cars mapped.

Had one of these on my Leon fr 184.Was fine for about 4 months then engine seem to be over boosting or misfiring at high revs and it started to sound like a tractor....Took it off and took it to Seat and reset everything....all good now.....
You may as well of done a ECU tune since you've made a video about having a tuning box installed. I mean surely someone at BMW dealership you bought this from is going to see this video...

TDi Tuning seems to really know their stuff. Decided to see where they are located and turns out they are 5mins drive from my work 😂 don’t think a tuning box would make much difference to my E220 Taxi Edition though 😂
Got mine for £320 with the Bluetooth one on my Audi TT serious gains more then happy with it Trafford park Manchester’s blokes there are helpfull and will tell you anything if there’s any concern which I had at first
It was 181 bhp and 380 lb/ft torque now is 240 bhp and 464lb/ft torque haven’t been on a Dyno but there is a significant increase and I’m happy
LLF imo best way to go is to try to get your hands on a spare ECU. You can go to town on one and keep the other stock. It's also safer as you will have a spare if the tuned one happens to get bricked for some reason. 👌
I had this on my FK2 made a massive difference, had to take it off when I had the exhaust done as needed the ECU map.
Each to their own and all that and a lovely car you have but i personally couldn't put up with all that wheel spinning as it is just wasted power,and that is what i love about my Mitsubishi Evo X,it will stick like shit to a blanket whatever the weather,and being in the UK the weather in normally crap.

Don't forget it maybe the same model but every engine doesn't run the same power out the factory. Would you pay to get your car mapped or live mapped? Common sense. As you can see I dont particularly believe in these tuning boxes but our man LLF is sound

@@ryanaitken5041 what damage does this box do to the engine? If you buy from a reputable company then you should see no issues. There is no guarantee that a engine remap will be a better option. There are so many guys remapping without dynos and they are just generic maps for £200. My mate has been running a race chip box for over a year with no issues.
How will this work for smaller engines such as a 1.4tsi Ibiza, what real word results would you expect from that
Evren Sokmener It doesn’t adjust for atmospheric conditions or put the correct air fuel ratios in. The ECU has tons of variables and safety caps to adjust, these boxes just put boost in no matter what without adjusting fuel, timing, etc your turbo motor runs consistently lean to say the least which will damage it in the long term.
really appreciate this one pal. Been thinking of one for mine for a good while as well from TDI Tuning themselves. A proper remap will bring a TD1 fault code for me at Audi so no warranty for me

Maps, what maps? Its a box full of voltage changing electronics, to trick the ecu, over time the ecu will re-learn and correct the wrong voltages it has been receiving.

@@iProCombo , Yes it those. People always have their own opinion but sometimes we need to try things for ourselves. It's safe and can easy be removed and put back in. I have mad my own TH-cam video on my channel on fitting it yourself. Plus if you change your vehicle as the guy mentioned, you can send it back for reprogramming. 👍🏽

Take it onto a dyno and see what power you are making stock and with the tune. I’ve had one before and I didn’t notice any difference.

I’ve got a dtuk box on my FR and it does make a difference. No fuel gain but no loss either. Seems to rev forever in third.
Ricky, your M4 will never give you what a GTR has, that feeling that only a GTR can give, you don,t seem totally at one with the M4, vids with your old GTR & owners cars you can tell you love the GTR , with the M4 you seem slightly negative !.
For the price of that box you could get a live map anyway. But for Ricky it works with warranty etc. But if you don’t need to worry about that then just take it to a decent tuner.

cant believe people are still falling for these a couple of friends had these a few years ago and were quoted around 40bhp improvement they both were not happy and had the cars tested result was a 12bhp improvement at 2000rpm and a 5bhp drop in power at 3500rpm

Fitted one to my dad's s8. Nothing but issues after sending it back twice. Misfires at high rpm when wot.
I use a similar box by a different company (Race chip) and I have had no problems with it after a year (10k miles) of use. It makes me laugh when people say they don't work or some other garbage, it's simply not true. You get one of these from a reputable company and you won't have any issues. Yes, a proper remap is better, more so if you want to have additional mods, but for people with new cars, these make more sense.

The one very important aspect you didn’t mention is do you need to change the spark plugs to one step colder running the TDI box ?
The last thing an M4 needs is more power. When I had mine couldn’t get the power down in any condition other than hot sunny dry day.

I am now on my third TDI box!!! First was fitted to a Diesel Q3 which made a massive difference performance wise, the second was installed on an Abarth 595 Competizione and on number7, it became a savage, GTI eating monster.
My current box is fitted to my BMW 640D and I drive that on number 7 all the time. Around town, its a lovely, relaxing, docile drive but deck the loud pedal and it becomes an absolute beast. As far as bang for your buck goes, there is nothing better.
Best car TH-cam channel by far, seen this channel grow from 10 subscribers and its mad to see it keep pushing but one thing though is look after yourself and Ur body and try hit gym Coz can see the stress on Ur face

I hope this box is better than the DTUK box i was using on my car.. Tried two of there boxes... caused engine management light issues and put the car in limp mode after a few thousand miles (boost errors) which disappeared after both boxes were removed.
I would never use one of these boxes again.

A great sales man but tuning box's are better door wedges than anything else. They don't take into consideration that every engine is different. Whilst the development car he had might have responded well to the tuning box, someone else's car won't necessarily react the same. At the end of the day, it has made your M4 even more underivable. This is where a proper live tune will differ, it can limit boost in set gears and earlier on in the rev range and that's without getting too technical.

Good vid Ricky, I was gonna go down the road off a tuning box for my m135i, the only issue is they don't support decats or future mods.
420 pounds all and 100bhp to me sounds to cheap with running issues around the corner. Nothing good comes from a tuning box for a engine, just like nothing good comes out of a aerosol tin when spraying a car. Good video though dude
In my life more power, torque and lower fuel consumption are 3 pretty good things.
Imo Ricky, I wouldn't expect you to go down the tuning box route. I was about to for my MK1 TT and held myself back and got a REVO map instead.
Be careful out there with these boxes, they might just be laughing at you when you leave their garage.
Ricky - good plug for TDI tuning and looks like you are happy with their pnp box on your new m4. I do question the logic about being concerned about warranty when vlogging on here though. Popularity of LLF on YT might be your undoing if s55 goes pop or spins it hub and you take it in for repairs under warranty....??

Mike did my post August 2018 M4 Comp @ Motech. Has yours got the new filters in the exhaust? With my Remus Powerizer it made 488bhp and just over 500bhp on Surrey Rolling Roads rollers..and I trust Charlies rollers 💯 Seems the torque is higher as the exhaust is strangling the breathing but keeping the BHP down....
