  • Join us in this intriguing interview with Bernie Worrell. A piano prodigy since the very young age of three, he performed with the Washington Symphony Orchestra at just ten. His musical journey has taken him virtually everywhere: musical director for Maxine Brown, a member of George Clinton's Parliament/Funkadelic, as well as Talking Heads and various projects with Keith Richards, Bootsy's New Rubber Band, the Pretenders, Deee-Lite, and Jack Bruce (Cream). He remains one the most sampled musicians of all time (Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube, DMX, Digital Underground, De La Soul, etc., etc.!

    Bernie was a personal friend of mine...we'd hang at my house and shoot the shit....I'm just a normal everyday kind of guy and so was Bernie. He NEVER talked about himself and believed in his "Higher Power"....Bernie you will be missed my friend....I can't call you anymore But I will see you again

      Yes, he was very humble at a show where I met him backstage, he smiled that beautiful smile. Shy in fact, among all the band members, they were all super-star glamorous in contrast. Bernie, I'll never forget what a gentleman you were. Thank you for the music.

    Bernie was an absolute genius and was cruelly uncredited for the compositions that he wrote!!!

    • @johnhenningfield4360
      @johnhenningfield4360 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Plenty of compositions he wrote in the P-Funk camp, but the two that stick out to me that GC didn't write and stomped his name on it were...Tales Of Kidd Funkadelic and Atmosphere. Those two pieces pushed Funkadelic/Parliament into the spaces that left their musicianship untouchable

    Hey Bernie. I want to know how you guy came up with Sir Nose D'Voidoffunk? What was the process, who did what, is that a guy or a girl doing the Sir Nose part? How long did it take?
    I do know a pitch shifter, flanger and delay was used, but who's idea was it? I'm curious about the strangest song in funk history.

    Truly a instrumental, talented genius whom I enjoyed listening to since the seventies. This man is a joy to listen to no matter who he plays for or with. When I listen to a song that he is playing, I tune out the other instruments and close my eyes just to hear his keys talk to me and put me back in the past when I was hanging with the motorcycle clubs. He was and is a golden child ever to grace this planet, I am a female and I love you always, blessings to this "Genius"!

    What's incredible they had 7 straight years of dominance... just before Rick James, Michael Jackson and Prince broke out..
    P-Funk was the dominance band before the 3 big superstar exploded. People waited for P-Funk's songs so they could run on the floor to dance.
    They were must see TV... with Mothership Space tour that broke all records.
    I so happy, we grew up during the greatest era of music to see vocalists groups, bands and mega solo superstars one after the other.
    Among my favorite eras are E, W & F, P-Funk, Cameo and Dazz Band, among others.
    And, my second were the vocalist era Spinners, Dramatics, Four Tops and then Temptations etc.

    When bernie was at the music conservatory school in boston, best beknown he was the ghost director behind musicians at pops classical theater which was basically just across the street. He had the whole boston rocking P-FUNK at franklin park concerts back in early 70's. That was the first time i witnessed a cop busting someone in the head with a billy club. Unfortunately it was my p-funk fiend uncle that was the family stereo technician for the family.

    Yes, let's discuss sampling (or the lack thereof) in Hip Hop over the last several years. Hip Hop or at least the best selling Hip Hop sounds like 100% crap minus samples from the best musicians in the WORLD!
    Oh well... I'll just keep sitting around here on youtube listening to kids tell me how "good" that music is that they're doing. What's really HAWT or the chord progressions and key changes in it... (rolls eyes). #Reaping what's sown...
