I’ve said this before, but some people believe life is about finding your inner light and sharing it with the world. Chuu is the personification of that to me.
The monsters in Howl are meant to represent her fans, as they helped her survive her darkest moments. It serves as a tribute to her fans for being there for her as well as an inspirational encouragement for her fans in gratitude. They shot the videos in Porto, and because Chuu, the director, and production team got along so well, they shot another as well (Hitchhiker).

As a korean english teacher i understood what pd meant at 24:00 the translation to english roughly type as "why don't we save each other ?" When its literally mean in "right now (in this moment) we (Should) save each other" as in (ijeseo) 이제(right now) 서 .in sense of pleading. Not as an offer or question , so the lyric and music video is more impactful. Because on that line you facing/see chuu face as she really said that to You.
It's been really interesting to see the direction each of the Loona members have gone with their redebuts. OEC seemed to say screw you, we're talking control now. Loossemble and Heejin's messages felt like new beginnings. But I wasn't expecting the depth of emotion from Chuu, that both her pain and healing were on full display, and I'm feeling it all. This quickly became one of the songs I'll blast in the car and sing along to when I'm feeling all the feelings.
FINALLY I'VE WAITED SINCE OCTOBER FOR THIS. I feel like Chuu decided to not make her album for the charts but for her fans since these mvs are obviously not made for the charts because they have such deep meanings in them. Chuu is a great artist and I am glad that I am her fan. I've been listening to these songs since they came out and they helped me to be a better person and all this happened thanks to Chuu. That's just how incredible she is
honestly underwater was my first experience hearing any of the loona members at all, and it's so fucking good, and her voice is so nice

howl makes me cry every single time, her voice is so hauntingly beautiful and emotional, the acting is on point, the little characters are the sweetest cutest little things, but most importantly both mvs scream chuu and i couldn’t be more proud of her
The first thing I thought when Chuu was redebuting was that she was going to go in the "artist" direction, and she totally did.
Chuu's so impressive. They did some behind-the-scenes studio videos (which I've always wanted with LOONA) and she does so much work annotating lyrics with notes on emotion, she works really hard to make sure every syllable comes out with the right feeling.
She's never been my LOONA bias, but out of everything to come out of the post-BBC era, this mini-album has been my favorite, it's right up there with Taeyeon's "My Voice" as one of my favorite soloists albums ever. Oh and the choreo for Howl is also gorgeous, especially the second verse.
And thanks for explaining the grammar in the second prechorus - I knew it was the other way around, but my Korean isn't good enough to realize that was significant.
Chuukkomi is her fandom name for ChuuCanDoIt, else her actual fandom name is KKOTI. The distorted voice and the monsters I think are her inner monsters created by experience and fear. From my own interpretation, your past fears and wounds can be scary but are also driving force for you in times of needs.
I think Howl happens before Underwater. And in Underwater she removed her bandaid from her face, showing healing from her wound but then still feels lost in the new world, like swimming in a open sea underwater
Chuu's mini album is my favorite every music release each song just resonated with me on a soul level. She also has an mv for her song hitchhiker
Both songs felt so healing. I was anxious when I first heard Chuu was returning, thinking about all of the roughness that she went through with BBC and everything that was awful, I was afraid that it killed that bright light, that spirit of hers that we all love so much. I didn't want to see a sad, bitter woman, I wanted to remember that happy Chuu giant smile, you know? I avoided watching it at first. I saw the thumbnail, and the song titles continued to fill me with dread and worry, but I wanted to support her, you know? I had to click to watch. And then this beautiful, healing gift comes from her. If you've been a fan, you know what she's been through, and you can see the scars in the visuals, little hints and homages. Underwater, when she first smiled in the video I knew it was going to be okay, and that we didn't lose her, our little diamond came out with a polish instead. HOWL was healing for me, as I took it as a thank you to the fans, and her holding her hand out, like somehow she pulled me into watching the videos too. I know that might sound sappy or dramatic, but when you're a kpop fan you really connect and grow close to your idols, especially ones that have been so open and real as Chuu. Im so glad I found her, through your reviews!, and got to be uh, pulled into her, and the others orbit. I intend to keep riding along on the journey as long as she wants to share it with us!

I don't think the message of Howl clicked at all for me when I first listened to it, maybe because I was too sucked into the sound of it, but man I really needed to understand what Chuu was trying to convey here. PD, thank you so much for this amazing breakdown, I've been struggling bad with social anxiety and fatigue for years and it makes leaving the house alone incredibly difficult. It felt really good for all of these feelings and anxieties to be mentioned by both you and Chuu, I was shocked when you pointed out the eating alone thing cause that's a big one. Anyways I'm looking forward to tackling these worries and stresses, it feels good to not be alone and to remember that other people understand.
Really glad you got to finally react to Chuu. Both songs were truely magical, she is just on a whole new level.

This was one of my favourite albums from last year.
She ate this sooooo bad. Probably my favorite release of 2023. I love how emotional and personal the album is. It feels like a Kim Jiwoo album, written for Kim Jiwoo, for experiences and emotions Kim Jiwoo had to go live through - if that makes sense. Especially since Chuu always sings like she's gone through 7 divorces in her life. So much emotional impact.
Chuu is my ultimate. My favorite idol, maybe in the world. And this album seriously affected me in such a moving way. There is a reason why Loona is my favorite group in all of music. I love all the members so much. And I'm not saying that lightly or out of courtesy as an Orbit. I actually love each and every member. But Chuu means the world to me as a person. Her voice just does things to my heart. Even her speaking voice and her laugh are angelic and devious at the same time. I'm glad she went with this style of music. It fits her so well. She melts into the production so well.
It was so damn good to see Chuu singing and smiling after all that happened.
chuus company released snippets of what the lyrics are about and how they shot some scenes with the lyrics in mind, howl was definitely well thought
both songs make me emotional, but howl just has something so deep about it. the loona references are so beautiful, heartwrenching, truly. when she sings "we couldn't save anything, let alone the world" i just thought about "Loona, The World" and all their lore. i hope she finds the bright future that was always meant for her
Chuu's solo debut was my most expected album since I started liking K-pop because I feel a special connection with her, and also her story and journey during Loona and after (especially the last year with BBC and her starting the Chuu can do it channel). She already was someone special to me as an artist and also from what we see of her personality being one of the most energizing artists I've ever known, but with Underwater I saw her happy and making such an amazing song in a relaxed style, the MV made me happy to see her smiling again after all the things she had to endure and after with Howl I just felt intensely her message especially thanks to the MV and her acting, she was really interpreting the song, delivering her message to us, the little heroes were us and at first there was that huge monster that looked intimidating but then you could see it only was a first glance of him, he also was there to help her. Thank you for explaining the Korean lyrics, the "-bolkkahae" part made me think that it wasn't just "we could maybe take care of each other" but more like you said: "let's take care of us together, let's help each other".

Im such in love for her. Hers musics it's just absurdly magical. Even if i am not loona fan, i always love her. This two music, specific Howl just bland in my mind.

Chuu's Howl album was a big highlight for me last year, Underwater & Howl got me through a lot of hard days; and so did DAWN's Narcissus album!!! I would love to see a reaction to both albums and especially to DAWN's Heart as well!!!
One thing i know, that water is always really really cold so props to her for enduring it

ive been an orbit since 2017 and chuu's solo debut was on of my favs last year. her album is sooo good and also they filmed all the mvs in my city porto in portugal! they truly loved being here and makes me really proud ❤ she released the song
chocolate some days ago and im again addicted to it. her vocals are insane.
Regarding howl: chuu participated in a variety show about running, dont remember the name. But i remember she talked about how she feels like she's not enough and like she has to smile through everything bcus that's what people want. So i definitely think the lyrics at the start are about her own experiences.
I wasn't deeply into Loona, but got caught up in the BBC cases. I had seen a few "game" show clips where Chuu had lots of energy. Odd Eye/ARTMS and Loossemble were interesting and listenable.
Chuu blew me away with these two MVs. Up with Kwon Eunbi her fellow Underwater songer.

I've never been a fan of Loona. More because I never had the need to listen to them. Never knew chuu before this. This is album of the year for me. I have never stopped listening to the album on my way home since I first heard it.
It's SOOO good.
I cried 😭😭😭
HOWL: The first lines are, in my opinion, the most important of the entire song. It describes the phase where she was in a fight with her label, where she just didn't know what to do anymore. She was completeely lost because of the label's actions, the attempt to ban her from broadcasting (Chuu Can Do It was in great danger) and there was no one to get her out of it. The image of the always smiling girl "I wear my cape of a smile" but we know, that she was suffering a lot. But there were the fans, who did one of the most important actions in kpop ever, the complete boycott of BBC (-90%+ pre-sales). It may have completely destroyed LOONA as they were, but it freed them all from the clutches of the greedy monster called BBC (not the cute monster in the MV ^^).
After the first lines, she describes the phase where she was slowly able to fight her way out and she always had the fans by her side. She won one lawsuite after the other. She won. LOONA won. Orbits won. Now we are divides but in fact we are the same fandom as before - for ARTMS, Loossemble (who also won the lawsuite about the name against BBC) and Chuu.
At the end she was back in life and she could smile again.
Chuu was my #1 soloist last year and Howl my #2 in my top list.
I think The Howl storyline is before Underwater.
In Howl she did go outside. Had the plaster on her face. Scared.
In underwater she came home.
Took the plaster of her face.
Felt free outside.

This album feels like if YooA’s Bon Voyage was an entire album instead of just one song.
Your commentary kinda made me tear up as this song is very important to me in many different ways. As a long time fan of LOONA, that whole time period of them leaving the company was destructive for me, to say the least, not only because of my "own" emotions and reactions to the whole thing but also seeing people whom I value as a person and also, of course, people whose music I adore, seeing them in that state broke me and made me feel helpless. To be honest, when I heard of Chuu going solo, Howl was definitely not what I expected to see and hear, and I was a bit underwhelmed with the song on the first listen (I was a fool) but then I paid attention to the lyrics and the whole meaning behind the song and the MV (ugh, the MV!), it easily became unforgettable for me. I cherish this beautiful song, album and of course our Jiwoo so, so much. Thank you for your insightful reaction.

The big monster is her alter-ego (inner strength) and gets bigger as her confidence grows. Eventually bringing color to her dreary world.
howl is such a beautiful song, the lyrics are incredible and i'm just in love with the buildup to the chorus, it's definitely my favourite post-bbc title track. my only problem though, is that it's too short 😭
coming back here to ask that whenever you're able to - that you react to artms “birth” mv and loossemble's “girl's night” mv! they're both super incredible and i personally think that loossemble's comeback is SO much better than their debut (even though i didn't think that would be possible considering how amazing sensitive and the album was)

To me, Howl was all about her getting courage after all the bad things that happened with her former company, and a call for the fans and the girls to save each other, 'cause it's all that's left, after their "loonatheworld" got destroyed by "god"

AUDIO PROBLEM: There's some kind of volume compression in the song audio you're streaming, making it annoying to listen to the song here. It happens here and there very often but I don't why, If you can correct the audio would be nice. Maybe it's a volume cap on some frequecy that rescales all the other ones for some reason idk. Also the overall volume of the song here is pretty high so maybe it's part of the issue
