Wowwwwww I’m really kinda shocked about this new era we seem to be in with natural hair. I guess we as humans have to try some thing different as opposed to sticking to the basics. I would never get a Gina curl, you basically have to keep getting it because it’s a different texture from your natural texture. And I worked too hard over the past 20 years to love my texture so I just can’t go there. I’ve seen some who regretted the decision too.
I never tried Deva Curl either. Terrible to hear some have lost hair or their curls. My guess is we’ll see a new evolution of naturals going against this soon if not already..?
I stay out of the trends and in my lane.. cause all this has me clutching my pearls. Not literally but I am thinking about wearing them tomorrow. 😅

Actually for the Deva Curl it went to suit and they settled, from what I understand it individually it wasn't much, for you to get thousands your hair loss/damage would've had to be substantial.
When it comes to my hair I steer clear of trends.
My thoughts exactly for the past 10 years I have gone through hair journey and I do not want derail the journey with getting a service that could be harmful to my hair.
Thank you, I am a 15 year old with 4c hair and did a big chop after a relaxer, got my hair fell out from expensive products and got even allergies from them. I am still learning
I liked this video and enjoyed your take on texture release, I can only speak for my salon and why/who we use avlon texture release for. Because it only last 2-4 months on your hair and is an amino acid it’s going to always be better than a relaxer, however many customers are wanting to transition from relaxers go for a texture release because of damage a relaxer created. Sometimes customers ask for a silk press then explain that they don’t want to straighten hair to often as that would lead to heat damage we advise a texture release as this allows them to use a lot less heat on own hair unless a simple silk press.
That stuff isn’t just a bottle of amino acids. Avlon needs to release the full ingredients list.

Bottom line: Learn to do your own hair and opt for health over ANYTHING else ladies! Our hair is BEAUTIFUL!!😍
I agree, a chemical is a chemical, doesn't matter what form it's in. Whether to make hair curly or straight, it's altering the curl pattern. My girlfriend had done the "S" curl. It was a total nightmare and her hair fell out. She cried for a week. Anyway, you're right you have to be careful and not follow trends and fads as they may be misleading.

And that is all I am saying. As I have said before I take no issue with women who choose to get these services ( your hair , your decision ) its just that not every is worried about the health of your hair, some are more concerned with their pockets.
Thank you for this. I’ve seen the Avalon, and I had the same thoughts as you. This reminds me of the Beautiful textures texture management system (TMS). It his the market for a minute and the prominent natural hair TH-camr HairCrush used it, and it ruined her hair. She had to transition. From then on I knew I didn’t want any product that claimed to “manage” my hair. To me, if it requires gloves to apply, I need to research it.
It's interesting that a lot of the "texture release" videos are out of the UK. I wonder why those salons are promoting such a service so much.
I noticed that as well. A majority of the shorts I watched were stylist from the UK.
Because of the weather we have, sometimes we want the option of having straight hair without it reverting back straight away and not changing it permanently

It's in the states too just marketed differently as "hair botox' basically the same process and outcomes

I am a LICENSED cosmetologist. Cosmetology is not a “certificate” you have to go to school and take state board to be licensed. Henna is NOT healthier for your hair. It has metallic salts in it just like boxed dye. It is a pain to get out if you want color. Texture release is not harmful to your hair. It’s a temporary change not permanent as a relaxer is. Barber license are not the same as cosmetology because we are allowed to use more chemicals and are more educated on chemicals and the processes
I'm a licensed stylist as well and I'm glad you mentioned this. It's unfortunate that there are so many people seeking information from uneducated random people instead of licensed professionals. Everything is not for everyone but options exist because they are suitable for some, best way to figure out what may work best for any given person is to consult with a professional. There are just way to many bandwagon jumpers online soliciting their uneducated opinions. Avlon is an excellent company and their products are top notch. To downplay quality products and recommend henna should be enough to let you know that this isn't quality advice.
Mya, I never would have thought the Jheri curl would come back and get renamed as the Gina or Genie Curl. ITA...Texture release system can be as damaging as relaxers. I used Deva Curl one time...Hated it! BTW...Love the outfit and the earrings!!!

lol when the Genie curl short popped up on my feed all I could do was giggle. In the comments people we not fooled , they were saying this is nothing but a Jheri Curl.
I understand people get bored with their hair, I understand people want to try something new,. All I am saying is just be careful when "new" things are presented to you.
When I saw the process for DevaCurl it was an immediate no.
Wait, hasn’t devacurl changed their formulas? I currently use their shampoo and conditioner

Henna is a metallic salt and can have other issues later if you decide to go lighter, or relax. Make sure you always tell a stylist that you use Henna so she can plan accordingly.

Lol, henna isn’t a metallic salt. Henna is a permanent dye that comes from a plant. I know some henna mixtures like the ones that came from lush had metallic salts in them, but pure henna comes from the leaves of a plant, and ranges in dye colors from copper orange to deep red.
I’m not a professional but I maintain my own hair and refuse to allow even a professional to use a chemical product that is so volatile/ dangerous that I can’t even purchase it myself I don’t want it. When the professionals don’t have time for me when I need their services I refuse to be out with no resource.
Scary how a company would add harsh chemicals in a product deceiving customer(s)... I'm being watchful 👀
It is very scary, just like the hairdressers that were putting relaxers in client's conditioner

I've had to wear braids for nearly a year to repair my hair and let it grow back

Apparently with texture release, your curls do come back, but they are looser. You have to get your hair flat ironed like 6-7 times for it to work. It looks horrible for the hair.
Correct from the videos I saw the curls do come back, but chemicals are chemicals, I just know for me that would not be an option.
Yes the curls do come back, I’ve been getting this treatment for a year now and I truly love it, it made my hair way more manageable and I got less breakage due to it tangling so much

i got me second texture release 3 months ago and I'm starting to get worried because my curls are still loose and my hair feels quite thin at the moment? i'm hoping it will go back to normal but isn't it supposed to revert after 3 months 😭
If the curls are looser then it wasn’t a full come back-that’s damage.
For someone who is speaking on some authority regarding hair , why is your hair under a head wrap.. I'm only hearing opinions and not facts or statistics. Not even a hair stylist.
Chemicals are in EVERYTHING!!As long as you take care of your hair .....wash, deep condition and quarterly trims....
I agree. I’m a LICENSED cosmologist. She speaks on being “certified” it’s not a certification it’s a license that you have to go to school for. Someone who isn’t licensed can not speak on hair when they have no knowledge of it except TH-cam videos
