What a wonderful series and priceless opportunity for anyone in the world to learn about the world’s greatest writer from this great teacher-for free!! My second time through it, this course twice left me exhausted, enlightened, inspired and daunted by how much more there is to learn. Thank you, Professor Cantor!

At about the one hour mark Professor Cantor goes off on a little tangent where he discusses Prospero's backstory as if it were part of the drama rather than just a few lines in a speech. Other than that, I thought the lecture was on point even if i tend to think of this play as more about power than love.

I thought he 'atomised' Shakespeare's politics correctly.

Two lectures and no mention of colonialism! Could it be that "colonialism theory" might have next to nothing to teach us about this play, and would tend to distract us from focusing on its actual themes, ideas, and allusions?
