I been really thinking about this as well. I feel like I try to chance the next new thing. Always seeing what I can find new. I mean I don’t only do it with manga. Even with shows on streaming sites. I have so many saved in my watch list yet I keep searching for a new one.
I actually unhauled this year for the first time. I unhauled only around 50 volumes but still a lot for me.
I been making a TBR and trying to read more. With my TBR I can only buy the volumes I am missing in a series I already started. I keep my complete series and my incomplete series separate so my goal is to complete the series I already started.
    Great video!!!

I would definitely say don't stop buying manga! Also my family and I just got this box earlier this week and we loved it! Sorry had to say that first and then finish my thought! LOL! However, I told myself that I can no longer binge buy series and that I have to read manga volumes as they release. I didn't think it would make a big difference considering in previous years I would buy the series as it was coming out and then read it all, but having done that often and then dropping the series a few volumes in due to X reasons, I learned my lesson quickly. LOL! This year I really became serious of reading my backlog and I have loved it! I've read over half of it and should be able to have it all read by the end of the year! Saying that, I have told people that I don't feel anyone needs to read their entire collection to be a real "collector," but knowing that finances are tight for my family personally, I wanted to show physical proof to my spouse that I am reading what I am buying and have read what I bought in the past. Doing this has made my manga collecting journey so much more satisfying! Also for me, I have zero plans to stop buying manga, but I do A LOT of research on the things I want to buy and can say I never start a new series blindly. I know some people find that more satisfying, but with increased prices in manga and manhwa and just needing to stretch my money and getting the most out of what I buy, that's not something I can do anymore. On the flip side though, I rarely drop series and feel I am very happy with the things I buy. I hope your journey unfolds in the direction you hope it will and that the steps you want to take are successful!! Ganbatte!

I tend to follow a rule of not buying the next volume until I have finished the last volume, the exception being rare old manga where finding any volume of it is a lucky break. Other than that I try to have no more than around 50 on the go at any time and routinely trim my backlog.

So I had to make a choice between movies and books/manga when I was moving years ago due to one money and two space, physical movies won so I had to go digital with my books and manga. So since I had to get rid of my physical books/manga I started to only buy digital books and manga cause it's easier for me to back them up in case anything ever happens to them vs digital movies. In a perfect world space and money would not mean a thing lol sorry for the rant but yea it might help for you to save space and money to switch to digital and backup your books on series that you don't care about having in physical form and get them digitally.

I collect fashion dolls and comics at the same time. I collect variety range of dolls. Sometimes ı find myself at a point that well ı have these much comics and these much dolls (28 dolls and for a lot of collector of dolls thats very less.) so is it healthy for me to buy myself a comic or a doll right now, should ı spend this money for saving my future or buying something like cover for my laptop.... There are lots of things to collect in this capitalist world. And there always will be. I think the most important thing is to do not forgetting saving for your actual needs. This is my point of view on fomo and collecting. Its different than yours but ı think whatever you collect whatever you buy a lot of people goes from this kind of problems. If I were you I would say sell the series that didn't interest you that aren't planning on completing ,and ask your kids that the series you plan on removing are the same one that they don't like. This way only keep the series that your family enjoy.
if you plan on collecting manga I suggest buying collections and not individuals as much. this same from spending so much money. just check before that the purchase that you want your buying will be something you can see yourself enjoying and rereading again. Limit how many series you are buying so you don't have multiple projects. I tend to start buying 2-4 series constantly and only buying other once there is a box set.
as for your books you don't plan on keeping ask some your friend if they want them, and for the rest try to sell them in the OfferUp app. this app tend to be were most people sell opject that they don't want anymore. This was where I got my large collection of the rising of the shield hero. Hopefully you can recuperate some of the money you spend on manga.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts Andre. So far I have only had three series after reading I immediately sold. It appears part of the problem is that I really enjoy almost everything I have and if it is something I thought was okay my kids loved it. For example I thought Astra Lost in Space was "okay" but my daughter has read the series multiple times. As you suggested I need to take a good hard look and ask if I have any series myself or the family does not plan to reread.

It might be wise to pump the brakes a bit. But as an archivist, I hope you don't toss them out. Even if it is an "common" manga. Or an Manga that is currently in wide circulation. Because a lot of lost media used to be common before time took its toll.
You could scan in all the Manga in your collection. Even if their are all ready scans of your collection online.
You'd be surprised how often media is "lost" because the copy right holder suddenly decides to try and erase it from the internet.
So its generally good to have as many scans, in as many different languages, archived as possible.
    -------
If you are that worried about your manga going unread. Then buy an exercise bike for your house. Set aside two hours Every morning to ride the exercise bike early in the morning. That way you can work through your manga back catalogue while also keeping your blood pumping.
Exercise bikes can get a bit pricey. They can be between 300 dollars and 150 dollars. But you might be able to find them for cheaper than that at your local surplus and salvage, or pawn shop.

I think you should probably keep your unread pile below 30 percent, maybe even 20 percent.
For me personally I have maybe 200 books and I have less than 10 percent unread. I think I have reached the point where if I am going to buy anything else then something else has to go because I don’t have the space for it.
