Hello from 2022! This video was extremely helpful. I bought a 1/2" Sharkbite valve and a pipe cutter and had it done in literally 10 minutes. Thank you!
I am preparing to install a shut off valve on my own, for the 1rst time, & this video is invaluable to me! I have little to no experience with plumbing & this video has given me the confidence to conquer the project on my own! Thank you for sharing!
Great vid! I'm installing a shark bite shut off with waste gate for outdoor plumbing that already busted due to cold weather. The waste gate will drain all the excess water from the outdoor plumbing to avoid future outdoor pipe breaks. Great to know that shark bit is simply a slip on installation.
I love this video. Bought a new kitchen faucet that didn’t fit the water connections in my house and was going to take it back. Stumbled on your channel and learned about sharkbites. Love my new faucet. Thank you!!!!!
I love these fittings, they have saved my bacon many times. They are a little more than a standard crimp or copper fitting (you would not want to plumb your whole house with them $$$), but for repairs they are great. I had to replace the floor in my Grandma's bathroom some of the copper pipes under the floor had been pinched during installation 30+ years ago and finally developed a pinhole, rotting out her floor. A couple of these couplers and a short piece of copper and the leak was gone. I know how to solder copper pipe but , the thought of laying in the mud under the floor then waiting for all the water to dry out of the pipe and taking a chance with that old copper... well these fitting took just about 2 minutes and the best part, no mud bath for me. :)
Thank you so much you explain these push fittings very well I'm not so nervous about putting this PEX pipe and the shut-off valves on now I will subscribe and put it like and watch whatever else you have on thank you again
Thank you so much. You saved us so much time .. we have a leak in our hot water heater, and of course in a double wide, no cut off valves are on it. We have put them on the rest of the house, but the hot water heater is hidden behind a wall in a back closet! While we can do without hot water for a bit, we can't do with the water leaking on our particle board flooring .. it has already sunk into the floor a bit! So now we can at least stop the water from filling and leaking after we drain it. Thank you thank you thank you!
We just went through a massive freeze and power outage in Houston. This video showed me how to shut off water to a broken pipe so we could turn water back on to the rest of the house until we get the pipe fixed. Thank you!
I am not a plumber, just found a problem but can not do nothing about it until tomorrow. The video makes it look easy. I have the colored water lines so i am hoping mine is plex pipe. (2016 builts) Found a leak under bathroom sink and found it was the Faucet, while i was under there i seen the cut off value looked like it wasn't on good so i need to replace it tomorrow also. It makes me nervous to replace water things in home because i am scared of leaks. But you made it look easy. Thanks for sharing video. Wish me luck tomorrow. Lol Thank you for
Hot water heater is shot. No shut off valve, it's a mobile home 1989. Grey plastic supply line. I watched your video, and am going to try it! Thanks for the video.
thanks for the informative video. I want to put two of these shut off valves on the water lines in my crawlspace leading to my outdoor spigots since my new home wasn't plumbed with shut offs for the outdoor spigots.
Good job! Unfortunately I need copper valves inserted in existing lines. I purchased the shark valves so I am all set with them. Love and Light to you and family!
Nice!! I need to eliminate the saddle valve supplying my ice maker. Shark bite should do the trick. Shark bite worked great for hooking up my hot water tank.
Sadly, i still have a saddle valve for my fridge supply too. But i will be changing it with a shark bite before i close up the basement ceiling. I love them
You are awesome, this is exactly what I needed to learn~! Thanks so much for sharing!!!! A+ (I need to replace my 15" exterior copper that just burst as it the pipe came from under house crawl space to side of house, due to 2 nights at 20* Degrees IN AUSTIN, TX What? with Pex, and I need this shut off valve as this line leads to 2 hose faucets!)
+Janet Stone Well I'm glad you found this helpful. Isn't it great how something that looked so difficult turns out to be so simple with a little guidance. Thanks for watching.
So, I have a water line from the house to a detached garage. On the garage is a water spigot I would like to use for my garden, but further down the line leading into the garage I have a leak. Can I put a couple of these guys somewhere down the line in the garage to shut off the water after it passes the spigot?
@@HomeCraftChronicles ok thanks. I'm not a plumber lol but now that I did this I learned that coming off the top of the water heater there is no pressure when the main supply is shutoff. I used Shark bite valve on pex so I can close off hot to the house separately from the cold.
Plumper didn’t put in shutoff to exterior faucet, now after years of winterizing cabin I want to live there all January and put the water on. Figured I could put shutoff myself...thank you! Cause now I can...
Do you think I could use this as a shut off valve for my dishwasher water line? Just replaced my dishwasher & found that the dishwasher line has no shut off valve for water. If I ever have a leak in the dishwasher line, the entire water supply to the house will drip drip drip from that line. LOL I need to be able to shut off the dishwasher water line if I ever have an issue with a leak without shutting off the entire house's water. I had a dishwasher water line leak at my old house that I couldn't fix right away, so I just shut the valve off under the sink to the dishwasher water line until I could fix it & the sink would still operate normally. I'd like the same type set up now at current house using the Sharkbite if it's doable.
Absolutely! You definitely need a shut off on your dishwasher line for just that reason. This type of valve would be prefect for that. They make valves for faucet and dw supply that could make the install no more than a 20 minutes job. Let me know how you make out with it.
Everyone raves about these, I guess I'll test them for how idiot-proof they really are, lol. One thing I'm a bit concerned about is inserting the pipe to the right depth. Did you mark the tube to show you how far (3/4:"?) to push the pex into the sharkbite?
+Dreamingrightnow I did not mark the pipe. It is fairly easy to tell by feel when the pipe bottoms out in the fitting. Technically, however, you should be water tight as soon as the fitting grabs the pipe. Regardless of how far in it is.
Sharkbite may be easy and convenient for DIY'ers.....but they are Basuda....aka......trash....garbage.....the compression fittings fail and leak....so...thats just my opinion and my experience....maybe for a temporary solution.....but not wise for permanent solution
I'm sorry to hear that toy haven't had good luck with these fittings. I've had some installed for several years and they are holding up just fine. I have no problem recommending them and will continue to use them myself.
Many people think that. However, I have never had a problem with them. If you prefer to sweat a repair or fitting, that's great. I have done my share of sweat joints over the years, but Shark bites are an alternative that a DIYer can use if they don't have plumbing know how. That's the whole point of the project

Thanks for this video Tom! Done putting shutoff valves my self. 22 CAD valve + 2 mins of time labor with NO experience. And it is done!!
Outstanding!

Thanks, you gave me the courage to install shut off valves for my exterior water valves. Piece of cake.
That's great! These fitting certainly do make things easy.

Oh my gosh! I'm so glad this was able to help you in the mess you must be dealing with now. Best of luck to everyone down there!
Yep, shark bite is the way to go. I installed on PVC. I will be trying the ball value version now. Good video.
I have used these fittings. They make plumbing easy. Will use them again
You do a lot of useless talking
I don’t have two weeks to watch you fuck off
Have to do my first PEX plumbing job, thanks for the prep video!
Thank You I used the shark bite connections in my house also, love them!

I know you can do it. It'll be fine.... and with no leaks!
This is the video I was looking for, thanks for sharing, it saves me time and money!
+renayma777 Great! Saving time and money is what DIY is all about.

Big Thanks for sharing your knowledge about odd connections. I learned a lot.
Thanks! This really helped to show me how easy it is and I did it "lickety-split"
thanks for the informative video. I want to put two of these shut off valves on the water lines in my crawlspace leading to my outdoor spigots since my new home wasn't plumbed with shut offs for the outdoor spigots.
These work work great for that
Good Video and simple explanation. Thanks
NICE AND EASY.MADE IT EASY
wonderful!
I've been using these for repairs too. I keep a couple on hand (3/4in and 1/2in) in case something happens.
+Ryan Seeber I keep a few on hand too. Great way to avoid catastrophe.
Could I put them on hot water heater intake line
Not sure what you mean by hot water intake. However, as long as the pipe or tubing is compatible with the fitting, I don't see why not.
Good job! Unfortunately I need copper valves inserted in existing lines. I purchased the shark valves so I am all set with them. Love and Light to you and family!

great video, you took the fear out of doing something like for me.
That's fantastic! Exactly what I was hoping to do. Why spend hundreds of dollars on a plumber when a job like this it's really within the DIY realm.
Many thanks, this is exactly what I needed to see.
Glad it was able to help you out.

Wow. Thats easy. Does the sharkbites come in different sizes?
Yes. They come in various sizes
Thank you for a very informative and helpful video. :^)
Are these sharkbites good to use where there's pressure? Like right off the top of a hot water heater? Thanks for the video!
I would think so. I have one for my water heater shut off and have had zero issues in 6 years
@@HomeCraftChronicles ok thanks. I'm not a plumber lol but now that I did this I learned that coming off the top of the water heater there is no pressure when the main supply is shutoff. I used Shark bite valve on pex so I can close off hot to the house separately from the cold.
Can these be used on polybutylene tubing
Generally yes, but you just need to check the package to verify the appropriate pipe or tubing application
Plumper didn’t put in shutoff to exterior faucet, now after years of winterizing cabin I want to live there all January and put the water on. Figured I could put shutoff myself...thank you! Cause now I can...
+tom fromHarlem That's great! Thesevalves make anyone a plumber.
I really works!
Thank you
You're most welcome. Glad you found it helpful
Hey bud, as these started leaking since 2016 ? Thanks.
Dry as a bone!
wow thanks so much for this!
Your great thanks

Thank you exactly what I needed
Why don’t contractors install more shutoff valves in the piping system?
I'm not sure. Time any money most likely
You are the Man👍!!!
do u take the plastic out of shutoff valve like with copper or no??
I use it as is. Didn't remove anything
@@HomeCraftChronicles how far do u push in 3/4 pex into 3/4 sharkbite? just use depth gauge? its not the same as copper or no?
@@Eastbaypisces push it in until it seats and you can't push anymore
@@HomeCraftChronicles ok, u need to deburr pipe or anything? or just make sure its square?
@@Eastbaypisces you can, just to play it safe
Thanks!!
Is that quest pipe in the background?
Quest pipe?
Polybutelene? I have a house that was built in 1994 with Quest pipe. I've had one copper elbow 5/8" corrode in 2012, which I converted to pex pipe.
(It was 3/4, not 5/8.)
thanks man!
amazing!
pex is the way to go i see
It was in the house when we bought it
Great vid.....Bro
I just checked the local home building centre they want $15.00 plus tax to rent their crimper tool so there is your extra cost saved
+David Mohr These fittings aren't cheap, but what you save in time more than makes up for it
Do they handle pressure?
Absolutely. I have never had any problems using these connections. I have used them in many applications and recommend them highly
Sweet!!!

They do make a cheap little tool (gauge) that tells you exactly how far to push in the pipe

Shark bite fittings 20-40 years down the road... Will they hold? I sure hope so or my kids could be f@#$&ed.
I have faith they will hold up, but remember, even Chopper joints can fail over that much time

You also miss the entire premise of this channel. It's about diy for homeowners, not professional contractors. But thanks for watching
My god that pipe install looks like dog shit lol
Yeah. Unfortunately, there is a lot in this house that lacks real "pride in work" from the builder
