It is December 2024 and I am enjoying the memories but a part of me feels sad because everything is so different now. People nowadays are trying to live such a fast pace life.
You’re not alone in feeling that way. December often brings back memories of simpler times, and it’s bittersweet to reflect on how life has changed. Slowing down to enjoy the present, even while reminiscing, can bring some comfort during this season.
If I’m feeling kinda sad because I miss Christmas when I was a kid, I just watch one or two of the very well done Christmas Carol movies. It works every time.
What a beautiful sentiment-thank you for sharing! There’s something truly magical about Christmases from that era: the simplicity, the warmth of family gatherings, and the joy of traditions that made the season feel so special.
I have some catalogs from the 1940s, 1950s, 1960s and few few from the early 70s. Not all years represented of course, but I love looking through them. It helps me to date vintage items that I buy. Those catalogs are hard to come by now so glad I have the ones I do.
I'm 64 and remember the SEARS Christmas catalog. In the 60's my grandparents had a chrome Christmas tree with a revolving red blue green light 👍. The bygone days
My husband bought me bubble lights, and just today gave me an old fashioned candelabra, featuring bubble lights. I am enjoying them, next to my bed, now. A Blessed Advent to all, and a very merry Christmas!
I'm 50 and I still feel the magic of Christmas every year. My favourite Christmas memory was when some family friends came up from California and spent Christmas at our house. That was in 1993 and I was 19 at the time.
Thanks for sharing. The magic of Christmas really does stay with us, no matter how much time passes. It's great to hear you still feel that joy every year!
How about those Lionel O27 trains going around the tree in a circle, either clockwise or counterclockwise, on the morning of the 25TH each December?! Ofcourse, let’s not forget about the electric HO scale sets that were popular in the catalogs from Montgomery Ward, JC Penney, Sears, and even Service Merchandise?!
I'm a 90s kid but I don't remember much about Christmas and the 90s. I was very young. Great video. I love history. And I love Christmas and I loved learning about decades before I was even born.
In 1973 while in the 8th grade I got into photography and my parents got me the greatest Christmas gift I ever got from them, a 135mm UV Topcor lens for my Topcon Auto camera. After college I became a photojournalist and I still have the lens. Cool thing is that the Topcon Auto 100 had a leaf shutter in each lens like a Hasselblad. Great for flash portraits.
That's an amazing story! The Topcon Auto 100 and its leaf shutter system must have been a fantastic tool for capturing moments. It’s awesome that you still have that lens after all these years, and it’s even cooler how it led to your career as a photojournalist. It sounds like photography truly became a lifelong passion for you!
That's the beautiful spirit of Christmas! 🎄 It's wonderful to hear how the magic of the season still brings so much excitement and joy. Thanks for sharing
Those were the days we thought would never end. But they did. When we were in high school the alcove would have the tree and the entire area would be crammed with presents. And of course the food and dad would spend all morning baking the turkey and that gravy. How I wish he would have told us how to make it!
Thanks for sharing-Lionel Electric Trains were a huge part of Christmas magic in the '40s and '50s! They were often the centerpiece under the tree, sparking joy and fascination for kids and adults alike. A timeless classic!
I’ll tell you what makes me upset is work telling me I’m not allowed to say “Merry Christmas “ because I might upset someone. Instead I can say Happy holidays. So sad.
Tell your employer that in America we have the right to say things that might offend others. If they give you trouble tell ‘em you get the ACLU on the case.
I was born in 1993, and I lived through the middle to late 90s I remember a lot from how we did things and how the city looked after that it was the early 2000s and my family didn't go all out we kept most of the older family traditions that I use with my own family today
That's great! The 90s had a unique mix of old traditions and new changes. It's wonderful that you keep those family traditions alive with your own family today :)
I’m an ‘80s baby (born on New Year’s Eve!). I still have my 1987 Cabbage Patch Kid Cornsilk Kid that my great aunt gifted me. And one of my first Christmas presents, was my Garfield stuffed animal in 1986. I still have him too (along with several other stuffed animals, dolls, and toys from my childhood.
The 1950s were the best. Innocent. Reasonably priced gifts like pajamas, clothes etc. We each got 2 toys. Many of us kids did our shopping in the five and dime with the money we saved. The important thing is we were together and sharing.
I loved Christmas before it started becoming all about money and commercialism…. I then started learning where Christmas came from and started celebrating the holiday it derived from called “Yule” …it now has meaning to me again 🧡💜
Technically has ruined it for me… Born in 65, it makes me sad to see this world ruin itself. Sad for the younger generations not have a clue what they’re missing the true meaning of Christmas🙏🏻❤️🎄
I wasn't alive in the 1940's so I wouldn't know how Christmas's were. But in the 1990s the whole family was more likely to be there together because you had World War 2 going so a lot of men went out to fight the war.
Absolutely, the adults play a huge role in shaping a child's Christmas experience. Their efforts, whether through traditions, gifts, or simply the atmosphere they create, can make it a magical time or, unfortunately, a more stressful one. Their attitude and involvement truly influence how memorable the holiday becomes. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I guess cats are gonna act like cats no matter the decade lol. I don't know why it seems so funny that my grandma's cats were likely knocking her tree over in the 60's while my mom was a child at the time laughing about it, just like I laughed at our cats and dogs messing up our tree when I was a kid.
It's funny how some things never change! Cats have always had a knack for causing chaos around Christmas trees, and it’s nice to know that those little mischievous moments are part of the family memories passed down through generations. Whether it's in the '60s or today, the antics of pets around the tree are a timeless source of laughter! merry christmas
Kids today will look back nostalgically on the Christmas _they_ experienced. They'll tell their kids that music was better in their day. They tell their kids that people cared more, were nicer to each other, had more respect for (fill in the blank), etc., etc., ad nauseum.
Yep. Every generation carries its own nostalgia, cherishing memories that reflect the unique culture and experiences of their time. It's a timeless cycle of reminiscing and comparing the past to the present.
@@Whoremembersusa That's true. I even personally miss the way Christmas was when I was a kid in the 60s. I just don't engage the same "kids these days trope" that we hated when our parents did it to us, and with good reason.
The local mall in my city hardly decorated for Christmas.....and the actual word "Christmas" was not to be found. Seems we have some sort of Winter Festival or something instead....The only music playing related to snow or weather......
Sending you strength and hoping you find small joys this Christmas, even if it's just in quiet moments or reminiscing about the warmth of past celebrations. ❤️
Merry Christmas 🎄🎁 to you all ✨ God bless you and keep you and may His face shine ✨ upon you and give you His peace in Jesus Name amen 😇🇮🇱✝️🩸♥️🌎 😇🇮🇱✝️🩸♥️🌎 😇🇮🇱✝️🩸♥️🌎 Jesus loves you ✨
I had a Catty Cathy and she was as big as me. We put batteries in her and she didn’t work. I’ll never forget that I was so disappointed. My parents didn’t take it back and so I just had her and talk to her, but she didn’t talk back.😢I was born in 1955 ..,
I’m a Filipino and Christmas is the biggest feast in my country eversince. Usually the celebrations is focus on the birth of Jesus Christ foremost and Santa Clause and big family reunion. Decoration is not that much since evrything right now is so expensive.
The big mistake was abandoning what Christmas is supposed to be. Its not SANTA. I wish Christmas was like it was in Little Women, when people were happy just because it was Christmas.
@ Thank you sir and the same to you as well! Thanks for the trip down memory lane. As a very young kid in the early 1970s, it certainly was a different time. It was very exciting living during the time when Elvis and Sinatra were still on stage in Las Vegas and John Wayne was still on the movie screen. A time when Muhammad Ali was still heavyweight champion and Evel Knievel was flying through the air on his motorcycle. Yes, there was a time when Giants walked this earth 🤗🇺🇸
This is stupid - most are still available every year in all the Christmas aisles! 🙄 Who wrote this, a 12-year-old who isn't shopping for themselves yet?? Angel hair, feather trees, and using real candles are the only ones that you really won't see anywhere anymore. Glass is still plenty popular, and celluloid plastics were just replaced with newer plastics. It would be nice if y'all actually bothered to find some that are actually rare.

I was born in 1945, and the Christmases of my childhood were something magical. Much different than Christmases, today.
What a beautiful sentiment-thank you for sharing! There’s something truly magical about Christmases from that era: the simplicity, the warmth of family gatherings, and the joy of traditions that made the season feel so special.
I loved the catalogs of the 60’s 70’s and 80’s
Me too. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

It’s great that you have those, as they are indeed harder to come by these days.
Has ANYONE been able to “keep the magic” of Christmas into their 50s, at lest. Mine has gone down since I was 20. I’m now 57.
Its harder these days. Grandchildren help for sure ❤
I truly miss the decades gone by. 90s and before 2001
It’s comforting to reflect on those times, filled with cherished memories, music, and moments that shaped who we are today.
Yeb. Thanks for sharing
Keeping the magic of Christmas alive can be challenging as life gets busier and priorities shift, but it’s not impossible. Good luck to you
Love this video❤ sometimes I wish we were back in the simpler times
I'm glad you enjoyed the video! Many of us feel nostalgic for the simpler times-those moments have a special kind of warmth and charm.
My husband bought me bubble lights, and just today gave me an old fashioned candelabra, featuring bubble lights. I am enjoying them, next to my bed, now.

I miss tinsel on a tree....

I was born in 1953 I remember a lot of this it’s changed so much !
I miss the cards
The 1950s were the best. Innocent. Reasonably priced gifts like pajamas, clothes etc. We each got 2 toys. Many of us kids did our shopping in the five and dime with the money we saved. The important thing is we were together and sharing.

Yeah. It's wonderful that you've found a deeper meaning in Yule and brought joy back to your celebrations.
The best Christmas recordings are still those of Johnny Mathis.
Yep. Merry christmas to you and your family
Great pics. However it's an avocado not lime green rug in the '70's pic. Thanks for the memories. The super heroes were my favorite toys I got.
Thanks for pointing that out. Glad you enjoyed the trip down memory lane. 😊
I came up 60 70 went to school field trip back those being young enjoying parties in the classroom nice days good family dinners
Those simple moments really shaped many of our happiest memories. It's nice to look back on those carefree, joyful times! 😊 Merry christmas

Chatty Cathy had a string in the back you pulled to make her talk. No batteries. You must’ve had a different doll.
I would never buy ole smoky to begin with, but after seeing the stupid commercial, I absolutely would never buy that garbage

I'm so sorry.

Where are all these decorating tips and recipes you keep mentioning?
I will take more time to learn about it.

I was 6 in 1966 and only real trees were used, I didn't see fake trees till the 1970's.
