    I had the Lone Ranger when I was 5, but he got lost in a flood. Found him in 1986 on clearance at Toys R Us, and had him and General Custer. Sadly, lost them too in a move. Really liked the toys, great posability and fun to play with. I should have kept the figures in a plastic bag as the pistols fit in the holsters, but never stayed in when I put the toys in a shoebox. What I really wanted, but never found was the Zorro line. Zorro & the Lone Ranger teaming up still sounds like a good idea to me!

    There was a serious accident on the set of this film. Stuntman, Terry Leonard had an idea for a big stunt in which The Lone Ranger is on a big runaway stagecoach duking it out w/ the bad guys & some Indians. The Lone Ranger, trying to slow the coach down, makes his way to the front, jumping on the front where he tries to slow the horses down. The fight heats up when 2 cowboy*s beat & throw The Lone Ranger off the stagecoach. In a last ditch effort The Lone Ranger slides under the carriage, climbs up the back making his way to the front & killing the cowboys & lastly, stopping the carriage. When the stunt was executed, one thing was not taken into consideration- the terrain the coach was riding over. The terrain was so raw, that when the stuntman was underneath the carriage, the carriage hits a small pothole causing the back wheel to come up & break both the legs of the stuntman. Terry Leonard spent the next 6 to 8 months recovering. When he was able to go back to work, his next gig was working on a future iconic blockbuster. The young director asked Leonard if there was a stunt he wanted to see on film. Leonard said yes, producing a much more refined version of the stunt that sidelined him. Instead of a stagecoach, a two ton truck would be used w/ smoothed out dirt road. Steven Spielberg loved the idea & the stunt became the show stopping stunt to Raiders Of The Lost Ark.

      The action figures for RotLA were basically the same as this Lina and the Zorro action figures. The legs moving to be able to ride a horse and the horse are very close.

    I loved these figures. The Butch Cavendish was my favorite because when I lost my Han Solo I used Butch. He was pretty much dressed like a cowboy version of Han. And that head sculpt was great. The guns went bye bye in the back seat of Mamaw's Cutlass on the way home from K-Mart.

    3:09 - I used to have that one, the 12" Lone Ranger and Silver. You had to put every single silver sticker on his bridle and harness. It took hours but the figure and horse were great. I remember it being sold ( months before this movie came out ) at a yard sale. An old lady bought it and said she was going to give it to her grandson because she heard the new movie was coming and he would be excited. Yeah, excited to buy a cowboy missing his hat, guns and boots with a horse missing the silver stickers that came off the harness. That poor kid. ...what am I talking about? @That Junkman In 1966 there was an ''Wild Wild West'' Inspired animated ''Lone Ranger'' cartoon series, that ran for 26 episodes, on Saturday mornings for CBS. Unlike that of the ''Lone Ranger'' which most people were accustom to from (radio, television) and other forms of media... The plots were somewhat more bizarre. And contained elements of Science Fiction and Steampunk Technology within the stories. ''The Lone Ranger'' even had a recurring enemy in the series who was a Dwarf named ''Tiny Tom''. Tom had a giant henchman named ''Goliath''; an obvious analogue to (The Wild Wild West's Dr. Miguelito Loveless) and his giant companion ''Voltaire''. Now, there are tons of reasons as to why ''The Legend of the Lone Ranger'' 1981, and the (2013 Lone Ranger) movie failed. Or what could have been done differently to make them better. But I was just wondering how a big budget ''Lone Ranger'' movie with ''Science Fiction/Steampunk'' technology elements would do? Hypothetically, I think there is a good chance that it would. Just so long as story doesn't go to overboard with it... Like they did with that 2010 ''Jonah Hex'' movie. And as long as ''Butch Cavendish'' is the films main villain. And the actor who plays ''Tonto'' is 100% Native American. It just might have a shot. (💉)

    I loved that movie and I had every one of the action figures and horses. That said, I was 11 and didn't really know good movies from bad, and loved all the violence.
    The action figure line was great. The guns fit the hands just right, they all had functional holsters that didn't let the guns slip out, and they were nicely sculpted and molded quality figures. They had a place right alongside my Star Wars figures.
    But then I'd watched a ton of the old Lone Ranger serials on TV in the mid-70s and was still a big fan.

    • @deadeyedave444
      @deadeyedave444 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This prompted me to watch this movie again, which I haven't done since the early 80s. I really didn't think it was all that bad. Not great, mind you, but all told it's a decent watch, not worthy of the scorn that's been heaped on it.
      Having said that, I'd like to address a few things Siskel & Ebert had to say.
      First, the acting isn't great, but it's not terrible. If they're dubbing Spilsbury, I can't tell.
      Second, it's funny these days to see someone ride an origin story movie so hard about not showing the lead character in costume until the movie is over halfway through. It's an origin movie, Siskel, get over it. It comes to a satisfying ending.
      Third, I do love violence in a movie, but I actually think Siskel and Ebert have a point in this one. It's a Lone Ranger movie, and when you make a movie of a pre-existing property like this it generally pays to pay attention to the source material. The Lone Ranger was famous for being non-bloody kid's fare. It's one thing to show a guy in a western being shot and he falls off his horse. It's another to show a guy in a cantina being blown away with blood splatter. Like I say, I'm all for violence in movies, but it seems a little out of place in a Lone Ranger film.
      It would have been nice to include Clayton Moore in the movie as an older ranger or something, kind of a nod to the older actor. They should never have stopped him appearing in mask, seems like a bad move to make with a pre-existing fan base.
      What happened to the female lead in this movie? She's last seen when the Lone Ranger is disguised as a monk, so does she just go on thinking Reed is dead or what? They had a nice romance story that just feels unresolved and never did pick up.
      The thing they did right in this was remembering to include all the facets of the legend, they did a lot of Lone Ranger details right, like the silver bullets, etc.

      Actually, that sounds like a deal. I think all of that brand new was close to $75 or $80. I got the lone ranger ger figure separate from his horse Trigger. He came with his blue suit, which looked like a polyester leisure suit, red scarf, gun belt with 2 holsters, pair of black boots, mask, white hat and a pair of pearl handled Colt Single Action Army pistols. Trigger came with a saddle, saddle bags, head stall,reins and a bit and a stand. I didn't ever have Tonto or Butch Cavendish. I had the Lone Ranger camping gear set and a lone ranger diguise which was a sombrero, poncho, knife and Winchester lever action rifle. That made 2 of them because Triggers saddle had a rifle scabbard and a rifle. The disguise was a Mexican bandido outfit. Loved it. I never played with it so much as I would create scenes or just set him up. It was 1976 and I was more interested in army men, Gi Joe, KISS, Big Wheels, etc. The mask broke one day and that was the end of the appeal. He ended up in the box trigger came in with trigger.

    Siskel and EEKBRICK got this wrong...always loved this movid...seeing it as a kid and even now...haven't seen it on TV in a long time. Great soundtrack too. Another toy that was released was the Legend of the Lone Ranger kit which included the Hat, mask, gun, holster and badge... had that when I was a kid.

    That story about them casting the actor based on how he looked in a mask is really stupid, but unsurprising from Hollywood. Maybe they should have found a good actor and then made a new mask to fit him, instead of finding an actor to fit an existing mask.

    To be honest I love this lone ranger movie it tell a tales of his history how he became a super hero of the west and Tonto too . Today is appreciate it today. To be honest I rather watch the legend of the lone ranger and the original tv series instead of the lone ranger with the crow or Tonto what ever is that he playing I really didn't like his Tonto ! And the new lone ranger he had the look but he looks like he going to a dinner dance with that awful suit he was wearing . That movie is also just fun to watch because of the love of the superhero.

    Wasn't there also a thinly connected Zorro action figure series that Gabriel did? I think it was based off an animated series. I have the Zorro figure and his horse and the evil Capitain. They are very similar to these figures.

    I think western toys could ride again. Idk if Lone Ranger is the character.
    The genre needs an added spice; lost treasure, native spirit legends, city of gold. Something with a touch of Pirates of the Caribbean and a dash of Indiana Jones set in the old west.
    No aliens.

      Johnny Depp sucks. No acting ability whatsoever. Depp can't play real human characters. He plays grotesque cartoon characters in EVERY movie. If you can't act without heavy makeup, CGI, and silly costumes... YOU CAN'T ACT.

    Have you ever looked at the figures based on The Shadow Starring Alec Baldwin? If I remember right they seemed interesting, but I never saw the film in the theatre so I didn't know if I'd like the character. I can't remember if that was on your worst movie toys list.

    • @ThatJunkman
      @ThatJunkman  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Can’t recall if it was on that list but it hasn’t been on failed movie toy lines yet

  • @Floyds_Toys
    @Floyds_Toys 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The movie was pure garbage, I think I only saw it once on HBO, however the toys were outstanding, very well done. Still have all of the figures. There was a resurgence in Western toys around the time, besides these and Gabriel's follow up Zorro line ( a really outstanding little known toy line), there were Jenner's Butch and Sundance figures and Empire's Legends of the West (a low cost, low quality historic a room figure line that was a lot of fun, especially the wagon sets). Plus the toy isles were still full of cowboy gun sets. It almost seemed like it all was a counterpoint to all the space toys. But they did for off kind of fast.
