Used this recipe today. I have eaten many toad in the holes and Yorkshire puddings but have never made one until now. It came out amazing. I started out looking on TH-cam for a recipe and saw Marco Pierre whites recipe which turned out to be a stock pot advert 😪. Then in the suggestions I found this beauty of a recipe. I used half the mix for a portion to suit 2 and we only had chipolatas in to use up. I cooked the chipolata sausages for around 10 minutes and made the mix around 4 hours before just because I had the time to. I cooked it in a glass oven dish which was super hot from the sausage in the oven , this gave it a great crisp and rise . I’m so greatful for how this recipe turned out . Thank you , I will definetly be trying some more of your recipes. ❤️🍲
Just last night I made the chicken casserole recipe in the slow cooker after searching for a chicken stew to make. It was so easy to make and the ingredients were simple and already in my kitchen. This dish just blew my mind as it was just so delicious. I have a whole new perspective on Kitchen Sanctuary. Already. I want to make another recipe.
@@philkasafir. Cheese Pie? I’ll certainly look. Steak and Ale and other pies and puddings I do (or have when in the U.K…. Yum…). I don’t know about cheese pies. So.. off to look!
@wallybeep it's not literally cheese in a pie 😎 don't worry haha. All you do is put a bunch of grated cheddar and some butter into mash potato- mash it up and put it in an oiled deep baking dish - you can put onion pieces on top and tomato slices if you want - cover with more cheese, bake that until golden brown 😎 cheese pie. Filling and super tasty! Ultimate comfort food. Try not to use bagged shredded cheese though, do your own from a fresh block it's much better 🙏 sausages and baked beans on the side!
We used to get that when I was on a government sponsored training course. We got a free meal in the canteen every day and toad in the hole was every Thursday. They were a bit mean with the sausages, which were cut into quarters, and you could easily get a piece with no sausage in it. So the first guy to find a piece of sausage would stand up and shout "I got it!" and the rest of us would give him a standing ovation. Meanwhile the canteen ladies pretended not to notice.
Me too.. just made it tonight and it was amazing, plus a great trip down memory lane. Aldi do some great sausages, that taste just like the ones from home. Found them yesterday.
Just made this. It rose so much it pushed a sausage out of the pan. Really crisp too. My last attempt at yorkies was a terrible flop and was more like bread, so this is my new go to. Excellent recipe, thanks so much.
Perfect. Hardly available in Germany. Will cook it soon. Onion Gravy very delicious as well Thank you for recipe and English lesson too. Regards from Germany Reinhard
I made it! I so wanted to make Yorkshire pudding and thanks to your video, I did it! This was also the first time I ate toad in the holes. So delicious! The yummiest way to eat sausages! Thank you!
I've cooked this, via Kitchen Sanctuary's receipe, many times but today is bonfire night so it's a must. We'll eat before we head out for the fire works display 😊
These recipes are invaluable to an Anglophile Yank.... I made the Lancashire Hotpot, which was terrific, so I'm trying this one next. You are impossibly lovely, by the way!! Cheers....
I have just discovered this lady's site. Where has she been hiding all my life? Fantastic, easy and delicious recipes to follow and make. She should really consider publishing cos I,d be first in the queue!!! Marvellous
Thanks for the recipe. My wife, Lesley, made this yesterday. It was great! She did use Vidalia onions in her recipe instead of red onions. The only other times I had Yorkshire pudding was with roast beef. It was a great meal. Thanks!
Lovely recipe - thank you for sharing! I added some red wine to the gravy which made it absolutely perfect for me. Easy to follow and so tasty - thanks :)
Ok, had to comment. Made this for the 4th time today. It’s a great, easy to follow recipe. Used to make the Jamie Oliver version and was never quite satisfied. This is way better. Batter is much more consistent and rises evenly around the sausages, gravy is excellent. Just add some steamed broccoli, open a bottle of wine and you’re good to go. 👌
Hello, I found your cooking page by chance as i was looking for a toad in the hole recipe to cook for me and my husband. I'm not the most confident person when it comes to baking but recently, I have really started to enjoy the baking, mistakes and all. I tried your lovely toad in the hole a few weeks ago and it was delicious. However, the real test was my husband's feed back, and he loved it and so much so, I'm making this again tomorrow. I'm putting the batter in the fridge over-night as you suggested to make sure it's lovely and fluffy. Thank you so much for for your receipt page. I'm dyslexic so having to weigh things can be challenging but with weighing scales and following you, it was made easy. I've subscribed. 😊
As someone whose culinary expertise goes no further than toasting bread, I had a crack at this and it actually worked! Very proud of myself (Didn't 'rest' the batter, though) I'll do that next time.
I often make toad in the hole using a recipe which is almost identical to this one. A tablespoon of whole grain mustard in the batter is delicious too.
I tried toad in the hole for first time and it was not so great. Have just found this lady’s recipe and it looks much better, resting the Yorkshire pudding I think would help. I will definitely try this
Looks great! I'll make the same comment I did for your Bubble and Squeak recipe- Brits are the very best when it comes to naming dishes! So cute and memorable.
Making this tomorrow, looks so tasty, not made it for a long time but fingers crossed it will turn out like yours, with mash and veg with onion gravy yummy...thank you xxx
If you don't understand Yorkshire pudding you'll never understand Toad in the Hole. Yorkshire pud is a Sunday night roast beef classic. This is the 'Poor man's Sunday dinner.
I have never heard of this but it looks good. I am going to try it. I don't even know what Yorkshire pudding is. Maybe you could give a lesson on Yorkshire pudding and all it's glory.
Yorkshire pudding is usually served with a roast and made with the pan drippings. this was used to help stretch the meat as people would partially fill up on the pudding. Very effective when served with potatoes and greens and the onion gravy over all. Green peas with mint also go well as part of a roast dinner.
Made his for me mum tonight she loved it. She is a bit of a Yorkshire pudding expert and mine came out a touch flat but taste was awesome, practice makes perfect.
My mother (we were all born in England) Made this dish for us when we were kids except the batter covered over most of the sausages so they’d poke through the batter
I JUST found you today! I was already going to make someone else’s recipe of Toad in the Hole, that is until I saw your video! Oh my gosh this was absolutely delicious- I’ve tagged you on all my social media and I’ll be subscribing! Thank you!!!
From California this looks great, I've always been kinda confused about some of the cook terms about flour/yeast/egg things there. Savory good stuff good vid!
Im making this today, for this Autumnal day. Had oi make it a lil different though my LO doesn't like real gravy so it will have to be gravy stones (bisto). Prepped the Yorkshire pud mix and will use it when I get home from work.

I would recommend the Tuscan Chicken recipe its very nice and super simple due to this lovely lady's tutorial.

If you have to describe its taste how would you describe the taste?

As an American without a history of cooking this, I looked and looked. This is the best I've seen and cooked - by far. Great post!
Glad you enjoyed it
Just saw an American cook making “ toad on the hole” and he was adding sugar🤦♀️. NO Sugar please. Charo
You should try cheese pie next ❤

Lovely!
😂😂😂 love it!
Brilliant
My mom made this quite often. One of my favourites as a kid.
As an American who has never had toad-in-the-hole, I think I'm going to try to make it. Wish me luck!
Good luck, for good toad in the hole make sure the fat is very hot before adding the mixture.
How'd it go?
Yeah, how'd it go? :)
Good luck 🙂
About to do the same!
It looks so good! That Yorkshire pudding reminds me of my grandmas too.
As a Brit living in Germany. These types of British recipes have given me some Brownie points here. Thank you

Then you have a good set of friends. I only get wry remarks and criticism that the English simply cannot cook whenever I bring something to work.
Out of all the recipes in books and online this is the number 1!!! Michelin star chefs watch and learn lol

Great job so glad you're enjoying the toad in the hole. Better than Jamie's version that's high praise indeed. Thanks for watching :)
I think we Americans are wired to enjoy food from the British aisles, as many of us were originally from England, long ago.
