Two interesting side notes to the Battle of Antietam. The Union National cemetery is located on ground that the rebels held throughout the battle. And the position from which Lee is said to have commanded (Lee's Rock) was obliterated by the cemetery board late in the 1860's so it wouldn't overlook the National Cemetery headstones. Respectfully, WS
I love your videos. I love hearing someone like you who won’t take a side on the war(at least not in most of your videos). It makes it so that I am neither bombarded by southern sympathies nor northern ones. My family served in the confederate army except for a couple of uncles most who defected from Alabama. Your battle maps are very fun to watch. I’d love to see a Sabine pass video.
Mr. Historian, you have presented a fantastic account of this great battle! Heard the genuine Rebel Yell from the soldiers themselves yesterday, they were attending a reunion at Gettysburg and many appeared to be quite advanced in age. It was awesome sounding, like a bunch of wildcats!! It would have been bone chilling to have heard them advancing out of nowhere hollering wildly like that! The sound alone was probably equal to a Division. Just when I was wondering about A.P. Hill you said here comes General Hill! As General Lee lay in his deathbed semi comatose, he was heard to say “ Hill must come up”. I love everything about our nation’s History!! 🌺🎶🎶🎵🎵🎵🎵
Surely they were descendants that had heard the rebel yell themselves from their grandfathers? Or maybe people just live for almost 200 years down South...
This channel has always been good. It keeps getting better. I so appreciate Historian’s commitment to excellence and improvement. This video may be the best of them all. It may also help that I was at Antietam this summer and can visualize the field better.
Man, a series of fights for the battle of Antietam. It's like Second Bull Run. This is something. Gods and Generals have the battle in the director's cut on the picture. Have History Will Travel has put together something good.
My intention with these animated battle maps are for people to see where their ancestors were during the conflict. Reading your comment let's me know that I'm doing it right. Please check out my other videos.

Not sure if you mentioned what caused the battle to occur at Antietam - in another video. Union soldiers at Fredrick, Maryland found secret orders from Lee to Jackson and A. P. Hill. The orders were found, in the grass, wrapped around two cigars. McClellan, seeing this, realized Lee's troops were separated. He decided to imedliadiately attack Lee. McClellan went across the South Mountain Pass which comes out where Antietam Creek is located.

He was on the Confederate left, to the north east.
