I didn't mind the free for all of college. But I think that's because it reminded me of Scout camp, back when the Boy Scouts wasn't shit. It was a two or three week summer camp where you pick what merit badge classes you want to take for the duration of you time there. Some years I'd pick a bunch of fun easy merit badges to get my numbers up and when I got older I started to focus on badges required for making Eagle. And there were some people that would go to camp and not take any classes and just enjoy the facilities, climbing wall, pool, shooting ranges, and lake with free boat rentals.
In an essay in 1946, Orwell wrote that "fascist" had lost its meaning and only meant "very bad thing". The WW2 propaganda war had already lost the meaning of the word by the end of that war.
This reminds me of Stalin having framed himself and the party as "Antifascists" and to not support them/him you were supporting Hitler by default. It was already a slur of sorts that meant nothing. I didn't know about Orwells letter but I'd be interested in reading it.
I read on an article that some exiled Lithuanian scholar wrote, that stalin choose "fascist" as a slur because the word "nazi", their real enemies, when spoken in russian sounded much like "us", or "ours" or some other positive sounding russian word.
I work in my state's judicial branch. It has been mandated that probation/parole officers and district attorneys have grammarly installed on their work laptops. lol.
And they're great. They were my second entry in the anthology genre discovered in my dad's bookcase, following a Tribute to Tolkien a friend gave to me.
Fight Club is another one where the movie was better than the book imo. Also I'm sure I'll get hate for this, but I preferred the LotR trilogy by Peter Jackson over the books too. The books are a just a little too boring for me. Loved the Hobbit though.
Fight Club movie ending is better then the book ending; but overall the book is better. As great of an adaptation that Jackson did; there is no universe in which the LOTR films are better than the books. There are a few pretty sensible things that adapted or cut appropriately that would not have translated to film well. but that doesn't make them better.
Interesting topic on the explosive pagers. from my understanding the claim is that phones are not capable of this, only pagers contained the necessary components, I would need to research to know for sure if this is truly accurate. I tend to side with Israel on most things. I admit my bias, my time in the military (marine corps 0311) I deployed to many of these countries and have first hand experience with the Taliban, al qaeda, Abu Nidal, and Boko Haram; and while I never experience Hizballah or Hamas I did have training sessions with Israeli 89th Brigade and heard plenty about some of this other slime ball terrorist groups. So I admit I am heavily biased against any members of these groups and the idea of targeted pagers exploding and blowing off the junk of these subpar humans (if they are even worthy of being called human at all). But you do bring up an interesting point about who they label as terrorist; that definition is about to applied to the January 6th rioters; and while what they did crossed lines of decency to conflate that with what terrorists do is absolutely gross. So who knows what other criteria they will shift to apply the label. Any way, I probably should next mix drinking and remembering this crap; way too many bad memories that I normally deal with pretty well. better not stir up that hornet's nest.
21:28 "One does not simply walk into Kingslanding"... Fun story, we all have legitimate reasons to hate Jar Jar Abrams, but iirc he refused to do that in Lost. In the original script, you had Jack helping everyone in the first episode, and then he died and the pilot became the leader of the survivors, but he decided it was too much investment not to keep him alive. Game of Thrones wasn't the first show to keep killing main characters left and right, I think that "honor" belongs to Lost though...
I also do not like Matt Walsh, he seems borish, pig headed and lacking all nuance thinking. His stuff on anime, video games, UFOs* and HIS idea of manliness I find utterly repulsive. However, the transgender topic he covered in What is a woman, and arguably his dead pan delivery and complete lack of nuance is almost perfect for things like the transgender ideology and DEI. It is almost like the topic he was born for. You can utterly dislike someone for 99% of what they do but when they get the 1% spot on it is worth supporting. Daily wire I would say has done more to stand up to the radical transgender ideology then any other media company. That is worth something. Note: I almost caught this stream live, but had to help get the kids to bed. someday I will get to post a chat on the live stream. lol
You can tell it's all nonsense with Walsh too because I think it's a case where all you need to do is look at him and realize the physiognomy isn't doing him any favors.
@@munfurai8083 I think it is an act; I think Walsh has some twisted ideas about what is stoicism and manliness. So he over compensates to an extreme level of that idea. Deadpan delivery can be pretty funny, but with him there seems to be a 'holier then thou' attitude. But I do stand by my statement that his work on some topics (especially the transgender stuff) is 100% spot on and there is almost a benefit to the simplistic approach in which he is able to really expose that ideology for the share nonsense it is. Issue is he has that same approach for things he is not only wrong about, but egregiously ignorant.
"Daily wire has done more to stand up to the radical transgender ideology than other media company" Wait, is there a non-radical transgender ideology I don't know about? Ironies aside, they're standing up against it alright, that's except for when little Ben is caught on a hot mic telling his editors to cut out this or that part of the stream because he didn't want to offend the "tees"...
@@marbellaotaiza801 I would say that transgender stuff that doesn’t involve children is wrong and misguided but if it is a consenting adult I would not say it is “radical”. Might a famous editor make an anthology more successful? I remember a bunch of mystery anthologies Alfred Hitchcock lent his name to.
