As a guitarist, I love concentrating on him. It is as though I am there in my favorite spot. It is really a treat to see him work where I can see his hands for the whole performance.
The guy recording this event needs to go to filming musical events 101. The violinist is just awesome, same goes for Joscho. At this time I don't know of another guitarist that can play with this kind of talent like Joscho. The thing is that most guitarist that can strum and pick with speed usually does do in scales. Joscho does this no problem but with his ingenuity and talent he creates originality that stays away from playing repetitious and boring scales while keeping the song he is performing in a contemporary fashion that is easy listening and stress relieving.
I've never seen a jazz guitarist having SO MUCH FUN playing, he's constantly introducing musical references and themes into places they should not belong, but it works because the whole band is just focused on having such a great time. What an amazing, energetic and fun musician this guy is, and what a talented band he has gathered.
The camera person clearly is not a musician. How did they manage to show virtually none of the other band members, even as they were soloing? Mind-boggling. Too bad, because otherwise this is great video with good sound quality.
What camera person? I think a better question to ask is why does a man, Joscho Stephan who isn't just a great guitarist, not just a guitar genius, but a guitar virtuoso and probably one of the top 25 guitarists that have ever walked this earth, still have to play in small venues, parks, and churches. I would bet he does not travel with a large entourage and probably set the camera on a tripod before the event and just let it run. Why is he selling cd's after his shows? Because he is not being paid anywhere near his worth. Be thankful that you can even know of him without paying $200 to see or hear him and buy something of his so that he can properly record his phenomenal talent! For a real treat check this TH-cam video recorded inside with nice lively acoustics and really hear the subtlety and talent of this man, much more so than this outside performance. Where is the fiddle player? He's playing lights out and the camera only shows Stephan. Wrong! Joscho is a brilliant guitarist. My fave and I love watching him play, but give other musicians time too.

A special talent, very rare, and he's at his peak. The Maccaferri wide mouth accentuates his style nicely, full deep throat .. gotta respect those chops .. but its too busy after awhile.. for me.

No disrespect to Joscho, his playing is truly phenomenal, but I hope there is a parallel world in which we only see the violin as he is also quite amazing but somehow not seen once in the video. Who filmed this? Or maybe is he signed by a record company that won't let him perform on any video that isn't theirs?
