I have a doubt about past simple and past continuous tense. I am confused at some point what to use,past simple or past continuous?
For example :- Ann was watching TV when the phone rang........ (1)
Ann watched TV a lot when she was ill last year. (2)
I don't understand the second sentence why the writer used past simple here. It is written in a grammar book.
Plz sir tell me about this.

To me, "did you do this" would refer to something expected or specific that was related to some known or remembered event, like if you asked a child "Did you clean your room?" Using 'Have' would be more curious or general like "Have you been informed?" or "Have you been to India?" Just my feeling on the matter. I don't know if the video says the same thing because I am only a beginner at learning Hindi.
