  • This farm just outside of Nieuwoudtville is a historical beacon for this community. Willemsrivier, known before as Kliprivier, was the settlement before Nieuwoudtville existed. On this farm are the 7th, 8th and 9th generations. The old buildings are rich with history, for example the old Jewish shop, the jail and the building which was used by Generals Smuts and Maritz during the Anglo-Boer war. This building was the first on the farm, built in 1745. Not to mention the old sandstone church which is still there today, built in 1885. There is also a natural source of water, a fountain which supplies the farm. It was a privilege to visit and stay over at this place! #DustBugs #adventuretravel #southafrica #southafricavlog #willemsrivier #historical #nieuwoudtville

You really know how to find them...what an interesting place and "bakoond" cottage looks inviting, well appointed and as you say the best location 😉...

It was a toss-up between staying in the town itself or on this working farm and we're so happy we chose the latter! 🚜 It was fantastic with so much to see and experience, thank you for joining us. Bakoond was great! Quaint, cute and perfectly-situated overlooking the kraals and windpumps, something us city dwellers don't get to experience every day.

That was so interesting, all that history packed into one farm. What a blessing it would be to live there, with the solitude , sights and sounds. Loved your cottage and the original settlement. Really enjoyed watching and listening to all the info you provided. Thanks.

I did not know that Nieuwoudtville had so much to offer...certainly got to plan a road trip down there, with Nieuwoudtville being the center piece of the trip 🤩🤩😇

Do yourself a favour and do it, you won't be sorry! If you like flowers, they say it's best to go in the months of July and August, but we like barren and bare, so we didn't mind that there were no flowers at the time. 😁

My dad grew up on this farm, I think he was a 5th generation Kotze who lived here. Currently owned by cousin Arend Kotze and his wife Erica, and they're doing wonders to preserve the rich heritage. The farm is a MUST visit during flowering season.

Wow, so you're a part of the history of the farm, that's amazing! We had a fantastic time at Willemsrivier and so grateful to have experienced it. It was already spectacular when we were there, so we can only imagine what it looks like when the flowers are in bloom! 🪷🌺🌸🌼

@@DustBugsTravel it's actually unusual, the Kotze family arrived in SA in 1795, and the precise family tree record goes back 780 years to the year 1234 in (Germany). Arend has the family tree there for those interested in deep genealogy.

It was a fabulous place to visit with so much history. Luckily there was no wind, so I could cover quite a lot with the drone. So glad you enjoyed! 👌🏻🤩

Thank you! We haven't visited Colesberg in years, but it used to be a regular overnight stop between the Western Cape and Gauteng. We look forward to visiting again, hopefully later this year. 😁

You are going to have to go on a trip when the flowers bloom. I have never seen it before. So it's your job to inform me

I think we'll definitely pass through some areas where the flowers are in bloom, while still avoiding major crowds and traffic. We look forward to seeing that too! 🌼
