    I think a Yellow-billed Kite at 24:30 - look at the tail shape (and the way it uses it).
    Blue Waxbill at 1:05:12
    Totally agree with you on the littering - lazy, disrespectful, arrogant.
    Love the bed decoration!

      I've seen someone else mention yellow-billed kite and waxbill too, I just hope we remember some of these names. 😁🐦 I'm a rather mild-mannered bloke, but that litter really got me worked up! Disrespectful is exactly what it is. 🚯 Our housekeeper was super sweet and it was so refreshing to walk into our hut in the evening. Luckily we met her when we left and made sure she knew how much we appreciated it. 😊🛏️

      Thank you so much! We also never wanted our trip to end. We'd spend all our time there if only it were possible. I hear you about the Kruger withdrawals. We haven't even been home for long, but we already need a Kruger fix again. That place gets in one's blood, never to leave again. I hope you get the chance to visit again in the not-too-distant future. Until then, you're very welcome on our backseat. 🚙🤩

    What stunning giraffe with her klossies. 😊 I love ground hornbills, we have seen some interesting antics performed by them, drumming on a tree stump, chasing, flying in and out of a tree, fighting with elephant dung, nothing short of a grove of druids performing their rituals among the trees. What a good laugh we had seeing my husband washing dishes as you returned to camp.. 😅

    Hi Curtis and Sonia
    Thanks once again for the ride along. I really enjoyed the abundance and variety of wildlife.
    Loved the green bushveld . It bodes well for the season
    I chuckle at the giraffe 🦒 with her horn top hairdo. Never observed that before
    Surprising but welcome view of so many ostriches together in the park.
    Loved the way the zebra interacted marvellously with each other . Fascinating the way calf found the right mother .
    More of our favorite animal . The hippo , ssd about the dead one but i guess life in the park goes on.

      Oh, there was no shortage of green up north, it was absolutely superb to see! 🚙🌳 Judging from weather reports we heard on the radio during our visit, the rain that fell in the time we were there, did indeed bode well for the rainy summer season. I can only hope that actually materialises. 🤞🏻🌧️

    I can only but quote Sonia ..... "A perfect end to an absolutely glorious day". Indeed it was. I was so chuffed that you also got to visit Punda Maria Rest Camp again. The old camp with it's rustic accommodation just conjures up warm feelings of roughing it in the bush. The restaurant also retains it's old warm charm. Love that camp. Besides all the other offerings of the day, the elephants were prominent participants (at times in large numbers), forcing me to replay several sections of your video to behold the spectacle. A lovely day! Not to mention the rather scrumptious looking potjie you prepared for dinner. I'm ready for Day 22 ........

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      You're right about Punda Maria. It's a great pity they don't have budget accommodation for folks like us who prefer that option, otherwise we would definitely have stayed there too. The restaurant certainly looks like it might've looked like that in the 90's and we have absolutely zero problem with that. The food was fantastic too, so all-in-all a wonderful visit! 👌🏻🥪🏡 The potjie wasn't half bad either! 😝 You replaying scenes in our videos warms my heart, thank you. 😍🐘

      Better late than never, as Sonia's beloved dad always loved to say. 😊 I hope the fence is the worst of the storm damage and that everyone and everything else came through unscathed. A New Year's Eve storm sounds wild, what a way to ring in 2025! 😳 I'm sure you were kind of stuck without the moped's keys and it sounds like quite a distance you drove! 😝🛵 I'm glad you enjoyed Day 21 with us. The two youngsters had loads of fun, too much at times I think! 😝🧸 It was sad to see especially such a large hippo had perished and also to think it could've been her child who came to somehow greet her. We told ourselves that anyway. 😥🦛 We also reminded ourselves that nature will always take its course and it's supposed to, so that made it sting a little less.

    I had a funny memory of Babalala. My Mom made lekker egg sandwiches. I was sitting on one of the chairs with a sandwich in my hand and a red-billed hornbill swooped down and took it from my hand. As a result of the dam not holding as much water as it used to, you'll have noticed no water in front of the Hide. There used to be a stacks there, almost a lake, with much birdlife. We even saw a huge flock of pelicans there once. Sad they haven't fixed it.

    Another enjoyable drive with you guys in Kruger. Something I hope you find amusing. On our very first camping trip to Shinghwedzi, we didn't know the road to the camping site and missed it completely. We carried on and nearly drove right out the back gate to Kanniedood dam.🤣🤣. Another about the dam itself. After the 2012 floods the Kanniedood dam's wall was breached and they have never repaired it. I have now named is the "Morsdood " dam.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      Well, at least you didn't miss the camp altogether. 😁⛺ It was rather sad to see the Kanniedood Dam so empty. We heard from folks we met at Shingwedzi that the dam wall was actually deliberately destroyed and it turned out to be quite a big blunder. I don't know the background, so I'm not sure about the facts. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Hi 👋 That Giraffe's fluffy horns was so great to see. Have never seen such fluffy ones before 😅 I learned something today that there are no Springbokke in KNP 😮 Google told me they further up West. All the sightings on this trip were beautiful. I can never get enough of wild life sightings. Sad about Mr Hippo 😢 Most probably died from old age. That's life hey. Food for Crocs and so the cycle carries on. That baby Elephant 🐘 was so cute man 😅 You know when those Elephants look towards the car, I get very nervous and want to run out my lounge 😂😂😂 Even those Lions we saw at the Hide Out (episode 20). They were checking you / me out 😮 They looked Hungary 🤭😋😳 That potjie looked gooood! Thanks for the outing. By the way, everytime you eat, I eat 🤣🤩🤪

      @DustBugsTravel  12 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      😁 It's not hangry elephants I'm concerned about, I think our fat content is a little high for them. It's their gorgeous, ginormous bodies charging us which frigtens me quite a bit. Sonia seems quite chilled about that and always wants me to get closer and closer. 😅🐘 Those tufty giraffe horns were just the best and we could tell that she had loads of personality, we absolutely loved her. I hope the ones in your front garden menagerie bear a resemblance to her. 😍🦒 That potjie was divine. When I edit and I see us eating, I make a quick detour to the kitchen myself, so I get you! Death is an undeniable part of life, but it was sad to see the big hippo floating lifeless like that. 😥🦛

    Have you tried a bakkie full of ice in front of the fan for the heat? I think those little holes are made by ant lion. They make these pits to trap ants. Ostriches fly? I would be far more worried about what they are dropping than what they pick up. Love dates, but they are very more ish hay . Can never get tired of seeing herd of elephant. They are so organized. You never see elephants that are destitute or sitting by the roadside, or begging at the robots. They look after their own. Oh oh 😮 I never saw a baobab flower before. Awesome! Ag nee sies man! Look at the litter! How can people do this! They should be prosecuted. That is an elderly elephant there in the water. Yay!! A tortoise. Wonderful. Wow, Kurtis, you are the potjie king. That must have been so good.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      We haven't tried the bowl of ice, no. We don't always have access to ice on our travels though, and the spray bottle works wonders in the car, so it works perfectly at night too if the heat really bothers Sonia. 🥵 That litter worked on my otherwise mellow nerves, I'll never get how folks can disrespect a public space, their country and, worst of all, nature like that. 🚯 I'm not too fussed about the gifts ostriches could bestow upon me from above, but I do shudder to think they could potentially grab something, or someone, precious and valuable. 😨🦆 Those date bites are super delicious! I think we were lucky they were quite pricey, otherwise we might've had a challenge and have eaten nothing else that day. Although, that potjie was top-class, if I have to say so myself! 😝🍛

      We heard about that from folks we met in Shingwedzi. Sounds like it had quite an adverse effect on the ecosystem in that area, and certainly the water supply. I don't know too much about the background, but it was sad to see the dam so dry. 🌊😥

    I've been wondering about the distribution of different zebra varieties and sub-species... whether Kruger has more than one. Usually they're either classified as Burchell's Zebra, or Chapman's Zebra -- both subspecies of the Plains Zebra (Equus quagga). The ones in Etosha's black stripes are less prominent, more white and thin shadown stripes. Chapman's zebra's white stripes are narrower, no shadow striped or fewer. Kruger's populations seem to be a mix of the two types, with Chapman predominating. But those are just my observations.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I must be honest and tell you that I've never even heard of Chapman's Zebra before, I thought we only get Burchell's and Cape Mountain in our country and I assumed only Burchell's in Kruger. We did notice quite a variety of different variations of distribution and width of black and white stripes though, but didn't know it could mean two different sub-species or a mixture of two. Thanks for the interesting info. 🚙🦓

    7:34 look like Ant Lion holes?
    Just in case those were not part of your childhood, the critter creates a steep, slippery, sandy slope, just waiting to avalanche if disturbed. If an ant walks into the top of the hole, the ant lion picks up the movement, or the vibrations, disturbs the soil down the bottom, and the slope gives way, carrying the ant into the jaws of the ant lion. We used to sometimes "tickle the soil" at the top, making them spring their traps, or poke a piece of softish grass in there for him to bite, and haul him out to have a look at him. (And when being evil little children we'd catch insects to feed to the ant lions, too.)
    Better just post this, unpause, and then "reply" to this if a question I know a possible answer to crops up later on.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  13 วันที่ผ่านมา +3

      Someone else also said the holes were made by antlions, so I would imagine so. I'm not familiar with them, I believe they're members of the Little Five. 🐜🦁 I've seen the holes many times, but never knew they were made by antlions. Nature continues to astound me! Thanks for the info.
