- Draughts down chimneys and heat loss up unused chimneys can be annoying and cost you money on your heating bills.

Nice one..i boxed mine shut with plasterboard and painted it as we have the same fire.....this seems a good idea too

What happens with no ventilation even with no fire just paper over it?
Got a gas fire which was condemned, chimney is capped! Not going to replace fire, just an ornament. Got a draft, probably coming down chimney, not willing to pay stupid prices! Any ideas.?

How do you then deal with the problem of dampness/ventilation?
The balloon isn't an exact fit, so there is enough air passing through to ventilate the chimney to avoid damp but not enough so there is a big draught.
