Her voice has so much intrinsic pain and sadness without wallowing in anger and yet hopeful all at the same time.
Unbelievable. This is one of the most emotional and moving pieces of music that has ever been written. I was unaware of this version until today. She more than nails it and leaves me with tears in my eyes.
Incredible. This brings back my wonderful wife, now gone for 5 years. She always wept at the inhuman idea that anyone could slaughter small children. It's me who's crying now at this awful memory when I was a youth in WWII.

Beth Gibbon's hauntingly beautiful voice is so fitting for Henryk Górecki's Symphony of Sorrowful Songs. It shows how talented Beth really is, yet the world contains so few recordings of her beautiful voice.

Incredible. Long time fan of Beth Gibbons (amazing than she can cross such diverse genres) but this is my first intro to Henry’s Gorecki’s work
What a fabulous rendition of Gorecki’s symphony of sadness! Beth Gibbons sounds genuinely sad and vulnerable.
Arguably the most important classical
work of the 20th century, astonishing long measures of
intensity... Beth Gibbons voice has an intimate and wide dynamic range
and she chooses musical associations of extreme authenticity: the
likes of Adrian Utley in Portishead (a master of sythetic sound) and
partner work with Rustin Man (a master of analogue soundscapes). The
authenticity of Gorecki is beyond debate and Beth Gibbons seems to add
a sense of moment. Such a vocal range (!), nice recording and with
some expressionist overlays it looks great. Big news.

My first experience last week hearing Beth Gibbons. It came up on my Amazon channel. I immediately wrote the song down as Beth’s beautiful, emotional voice captured me. Now I listen every day to this phenomenal composition which is only made perfect with Beth’s heartfelt voice.

This is gorgeous. I already have the Upshaw CD but Beth's delivery is different emotionally: more pain, more sorrow, deffo worth having both! By the way the youtube compression has caused some background digital hiss/noise/whisperings. This normally happens when the CD rip is encoded into MP3 before putting in the video-editor: the video-rendering then further compresses the audio, then youtube compresses it again while it's uploading. These three different forms of compression result in slight background digital noise on online playback, even if HD-playback is selected.

"The World At War" programme used this beautiful music but only the start where the strings play that soleum,haunting piece for the Jewish people of the concentration camps,It's so sad but beautiful music.

A little disappointed in the second movement compared to the 3rd
I just discovered Beth Gibbons & Portishead, if I'm allowed to say that band name here. Not sure where I was all those Portishead years. I'm glad Beth is doing new things, but damn honey, you take yourself way too seriously. Loosen up, you're my age. Relax.
I just facepalmed at this comment.
She suffers from crippling anxiety. Any time you see her actually performing it's anything short of a miracle. I think she's only been interviewed once or twice in her entire career.
Try to deliver this work of art the way she did then tell us if it can be done "lightly".
You're missing something, you may want to read something about this work. So...you're 99? ;-)
