    I just love the way Michael presents in his videos. The background music, the visuals, the script and of course the presentation itself is top notch ( or should I say, dynamic ;) pun intended) I have been following him from his days back at PocketNow. I believe he is one of the best if not the best Tech Reviewers out there. Thank you for the great effort and work that you put in every video. Always excited to see new content from you.

      There are sites like Mobility Pass that allow you to have an eSIM for any country, including the UK. It is $10 daily per GB, but cheaper for the less data you use. I would just take a second phone whilst eSIMs are getting their act together. This time next year, I suspect it will be much easier. It is not a big deal when travelling to carry a second phone.

      The most important aspect here, but also the problem that hasn't been addressed at the same time, is that you have to constantly touch the pill shape cutout at the top edge in order to be able to interact with it at all. Everyone, really every TH-cam tech reviewer celebrates this Dynamic Island, while everyone forgets and/or ignores the actual problem of the non-functioning one-handed operation of this "gimmick", which, despite the great animations and the good idea per se, will become annoying over time. #PureLogical

    Not a "review" but still more informative than anything else on TH-cam, with level-headed takes on most of the "controversial" points of the phone. This iPhone has some of Apple's best and worst qualities and Michael is quick to point them out imo. Why ditch the SIM tray when you can have it + eSIM? Because they want to make it more painful to switch to Android, similar to their lack of RCS support in iMessage. And yet, with Apple, a user gets features beyond what Android can offer. Developers have a singular, consistent platform that reaches millions of users, and the Dynamic Island is the perfect example of that dichotomy in action. By embracing the Notch instead of trying to avoid it, Apple keeps FaceID while adding a unique feature that comes with added functionality, and developers have minimal headaches when it comes to developing between Islands and Notches.

      They won't take away the things that have value, like physical volume adjustment. And those don't cover that much vetical space inside the phone anyway. The physical SIM card on the other hand has truly no value when an eSIM can do the same thing just as well if not in most cases better in every way. It's even less pointless than the headphone jack, which at least has higher audio in/out quality and less latency going for itself compared to Bluetooth.

    Also I like to keep lift to swich display on on but then if the phone moves even a bit the lock screen lights up when AOD is on.

    From my perspective, the "island" functions identically to android's notification shades and pop up windows. It's just looks prettier and a little less intrusive. Though personally I'd rather a smaller hole punch than an ugly oval obstructing part of my videos.
    Also eSims are clearly another step towards Apple's attempt to lock down their ecosystem and make it more cumbersome for iPhone users to move away.
    And the fact that they're still desperately clinging on to lightning for another year just to squeeze a little more royalty money is unsightly, not to mention hypocritical.

      I agree with everything you said except the bubbles thing. I think dynamic island isn't as functional since it doesn't open up the whole app, just some functions but it also doesn't take up much space and is always persistent. I think for quick glances and stuff, dynamic island is superior while for whole app functions, bubbles win.
      An example would be, when I'm drawing, I like Google opened in bubble view so I can see my references and TH-cam playing music in the background. But as one could guess, switching music is bit more painful. With dynamic island, the whole music thing will be easily solved but it can't do the references. It's good but not for heavy stuff, I like it personally

      The dynamic island is just an extension of the dynamic notifications they were talking about with the newest version of iOS. It's weird that everyone is saying they are reinventing the wheel. It's cool to see them integrate notifications and widgets together like that but it's not that much more convenient. I think if they managed to get it at the bottom of the screen where you could actually use it quickly and effortlessly, then it would be a bigger deal.

    • @nrbgamingYT
      @nrbgamingYT 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think most people reacting to the Dynamic Island are getting a basic thing wrong - it is not a feature addition by choice, it is a feature creation out of necessity. Apple will not be ditching the Face ID any time soon, which means the sensors have to visibly be there on the screen. They have found a way to work around it, make it more intuitive.
      I hope the Androids don’t try to copy this, because they don’t have the ‘necessity’. But we all know, some (if not all) manufacturers will find a way to do something similar. 😪

    The Dynamic Island was a reason why I upgraded from my 12 Max. Making the notch useful was a great idea. I'm glad Apple didn't copy other manufacturers by adding a pinhole design. 2:12 When it comes to OLED burn-in I’m still astonished at what phones (including the iPhone) have been able to accomplish. I wonder why it is still such an issue on larger monitors/TVs.

    I didn’t understand why people were upset about the removal of a SIM tray. I never missed one when I had my iPhone 4 (also no SIM tray) and when I had my XS Max I voluntarily switched to eSIM.
    When I moved from my XS Max to 12 Pro Max, it moved my eSIM automatically. Same when I swapped from that 12 Pro Max to my 14 Pro Max. In my opinion, it’s superior to a physical SIM card - but I understand international travelers could have an issue with this, depending on where they’re going.

  • @Radhaugo108

    I just got the 14 Pro Max and had more trouble with activating an eSIM than I ever did with a normal SIM card. I suspect that Apple is “working” with the US intelligence community and hence they were encouraged to remove the physical SIM.

    I don't really understand the big deal about eSIM. Transferring an eSIM might be slightly more complicated, but getting a new one is far quicker. Getting a travel sim can be done from your hotelroom and even in advance, and switching carriers will be far quicker and easier than ever before. I get that it's one less option, but it's also one more incentive for carriers to actually move on from finicky physical sims mailed to you.

  • @NL0Gwenster

    Nice preview. The funny thing about the esim was you mentioned Apple said that there was one last step, like not needing a physical plastic card (aka sim) from your provider. But they've only replaced the sim, with a bigger card you have to get and scan. So .. yeah. Still not completely there yet. What would be great is something like Microsoft offers on Azure via Autopilot. That if you buy an Apple phone from the Apple store they can pre-provision your Esim from the factory.
    esim surely will be the future, but for now. I want to keep a sim slot . I travel A LOT. and swapping sims to a temporary country specific one for better, cheaper plans is a must for me.

      You just get a burner eSIM! Most countries have this option. It is cheaper for them as they do not have to pay the retailer to stock them (and take their cut) or manufacture them (so much e-waste, and no idea why people prefer waste over non-waste). Tech advances, and we should embrace it, not complain; otherwise, we would still be using floppy disks.

    I don’t mind Face ID and I guess we have to have selfie cameras (though to be honest I wouldn’t care if that was removed) but this all started because of a race to full screen phones and I personally would still rather a small bezel at the top and bottom of the phone, so it’s symmetrical and just have the the Face ID and camera in the top bezel and just make the phone less wide and a little taller to get the same screen size. Does anyone think these cutouts and notches look better than slim top and bottom bezels that don’t affect the actual screen?

    Dynamic island is just a way for Apple to not admit that they can't get rid of the internals without removing face ID it self.
    For me it's finger print scanners all the way. The perfect place for them still exists and it's not under the display. It's simply on the side with the power button or on the back of the device.

    • @andyH_England
      @andyH_England 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      FP sensors are old hat and will be dead sooner than later. If you wear gloves or wet hands, they are useless. My Pixel 6 Pro, when my hands are wet, simply does not work. Face ID is the clear winner though Samsung and others will have to pay the patent holder if they want their own versions unless they reinvent 3D face ID.
