Such an instructive, easy to listen to comparison of knicker patterns. Comparing them side by side is so very helpful. Just discovered your channel, and I’ll be back again. ❤
I’ve never made knickers, but these look easy and fun. Thanks for sharing the five free PDF patterns and explaining the differences. I appreciate the time and effort it took to make your video. I felt I was sitting in a rocker across from you chatting. God bless you.
Thank you so much for this video and for the links for the patterns. I've been wanting to make myself some especially the larger ones. Some of the things that I make a full size panty fits much better under some pants or a dress.
Love it. The knickers are fab! All of them! Thanks for doing all the ground work for us. Brilliant project idea. Gonna give them a try! Really enjoyed your video.
Thank you Jayne for inspiring me to make the Maxine’s today. I can see me using up quite a lot of scraps. Hope your husband is on the mend after his painful bruising from his fall.
I agree, I feel inspired too! I studied fashion at university and I specialised in lingerie making. I teach sewing now and don't really find time to make things for myself. However since everyone has been on lockdown I have found more time for me. After watching this video I feel in the mood to get making again! 🙆🏼♀️💕💃
They're brilliant! I'll have to give them a go....I don't have that many jersey scraps though would you believe! There's always a need for big pants 😂...I find them great for giving a seamless look when wearing a tighter dress.. and more comfortable when wearing with jeans! Xx
Great vlog Jayne! I always use my jersey scraps for knickers. I use the Paper Theory Stevie as my go to. It gives great bum coverage! I have got the Maxine pattern, which is great for wearing under higher waist trousers so you don’t get a tummy line! 😍❤️ I use an old white jersey tee shirt that I cut up to make the inside gussets 😘Have you tried giving men’s jersey underpants a go - completely different to knickers but another great scrap buster. I am sure John would be up for a pair 😁 A great online supplier of knicker elastic and where I get mine from is The English Couture Company x
Hi Jayne I would like to make the Noelle nickers. Please tell me how you calculated the length for the elastic as there are no instructions as you said. Thanks would really appreciate your help. Lovely video to watch. Love the accent so easy to listen to. Ella from South Africa.
Hi. Great tutorials. Regarding the Noelle panty, there is a wonderful video tutorial to Sew - Along. I bought be kit from her web store and watch the video to sew it. I am new at sewing. Her video is super detailed.
Wow just found your vlogs. They are good. The high waisted knickers are great for high waisted trousers, if you wear the bikini knickers with high waist trouser you get a gap from the bikini top of knicker and the high waist. Doesnt look good and feels uncomfortable. They are lovely. xx
Hi Jayne, I have made quite a few designs from Evie La Luve and really enjoyed making them 👍. I haven't tried any others, so I might try now I've seen yours 👌. Such a great thing to do with your scraps isn't it 😁💟😘
Hi there. I’ve made knickers as part of a learn to sew with knits course I did a few years ago but I don’t know what pattern we used. They are quite fun to make aren’t they? I like the Acacia which I already have the pattern for and the Stevie - which look a slightly higher leg which also look nice. Thanks for sharing. Diana
12£ for a meter! Come to Reno NV. We have a great fabric store. I found their most expensive is around 12$ a yard and that is upholstery. I bought knicker fabric for 3-5 a yard and can’t wait to create starting tonight.
Hi Merl your so very welcome I really enjoyed making and sharing them with you ... they are so comfy ... wearing some today .... I cannot believe I am wearing my own knickers 🤣😘
When you were describing the method for putting elastic onto the pants, you mentioned getting a little step where the side seam ends at the lace, but I had a thought, you could do a small bar tack to flatten that bit of the seam that has the elastic. Am I making sense? If you don’t get what I’m rambling on about, please let me know. I also much prefer to add my elastic to the legs before joining the sideseams. 😬😀
Love love these, they turned out so nice, it’s been years since I made panties ( you say knickers!) . I’m going to give it a try again! Please tell me who makes the Somerset T you showed with the fabric left over for your knickers??
Hi Pauline, the fabric was a digital print velour which was gifted to me in return of a blog post and the pattern is the Somerset Top by Maven Patterns. Its a great easy pattern to follow too! Jayne xxx
Thanks so much for all your research :-) I'm not sure which are your favorite type. Care to share? Also, when I start the begining, my machine tires to "eat" the fabric, each time... super annoying. Any tips please?
Tissue paper under the beginning of stitching helps. Make sure bobbin area clean. I sometimes hold/pull the threads towards the back of machine when starting a stitch or push the garment with an awl or some other object to help feed the fabric under the presser foot. Use a jersey or stretch needle as well. 😉
I am allergic to elastic and have found panties with the elastic covered with fabric. Any suggestions on how to cover the elastic with fabric? Thank you.
You could try folding your fabric over twice to cover the elastic but this would make your pattern a bit smaller so you could add extra seam allowance in beforehand
You can also use extra fabric scraps as an elastic substitute. Apply as if you would insert a neckband but on the waist band and leg areas. I haven't tried it yet myself but saw someone on Instagram do that. Looks super comfortable. I've only made ONE Acacia pair of knickers using fold over elastic on waistband and quarter inch braided elastic along legs. I added about an inch along waistline to cover belly more. They are wonderful and I definitely need more. I'll adjust gusset a little next time to extend forward a bit, but overall a great pattern.
Sorry, but one of the reasons why I sew my own stuff is that I don't want to sponsor slavery in India and elswhere. So there is definitely a good reason to buy fabric to make your own stuff. I can't avoid the production of the fabrics because there are no good labels to trust how it was produced. Bought clothes are never a good bargain, not matter what the price is.
2:04 Demonstrates the perfect way to get someone to stop watching your video. I do not have any jersey scraps and do not fit ready-to-wear sizes. So no, I cannot run out and buy cheap undergarments. I started watching this video based on the title, which you rudely contradict. #clickbait

OMG!! I’ve always thought “knickers” are so poorly made!!! I’m going to make my own. You’ve literally encouraged me so much!!!!
I loved your video I’m a great grandma so I’ll get the big ones.

You are so welcome!
Thank you so much. Well presented to us. Great info
Thanks again. Meg
Thanks Jayne. I’m just venturing in to stretch sewing and will definitely use my scraps as nickers. ❤️
You make it look easy.
Hi Joyce, thank you it really is though. I can do a step by step sew a long again if its something you would find useful. Jayne x
Thank you so much for this video and for the links for the patterns. I've been wanting to make myself some especially the larger ones. Some of the things that I make a full size panty fits much better under some pants or a dress.
Those are really pretty Jayne! I love all the fabrics you chose also. Beautiful ❤❤
Excellent!!! Must have a go!!!!! 😀✂️❤️

Oh my I’m addicted to making them seriously 🤣 you must give them a try 😘
Very helpful. Thank you
Thanks for the reviews. I’m going to try them. I think for me the higher rise is great for under dresses and the lower rise under pants.
I totally agree!
The elastic is pretty! 😍
They look great. I'm going to give these a go. Thank you!💕🙋♀️
Thank you , this is very helpful. I love you beautiful kitty cat :)

Thanks for the reviews. I prefer the lower rise ones for myself. Hopefully the patterns are still available for free.
Brilliant piece of information! Going to start making my own from now on!

Hi I would love to try these. It says I can get a free pattern but when I click on acacia I get a price for it. Is it no longer free?
Oh I think its still freebie but you may have to subscribe to the newsletter on the website xx
