  • Street photography is not about having the best gear or the fastest glass. Heck, it's not even about having good gear at all. Don't believe me? Watch the video and I'll prove it.
It doesn't matter whether you're shooting on a Leica M6, A Fujifilm X-Pro3 or A Kodak Funsaver disposable, a great street photographer will be able to capture a good image with whatever he is stuck with, regardless of it's value, quality or optical performance. Knowledge and skill is key. This is relative of course. You're not going to be capturing anything trying to use a literal potato to make a photo, no matter how skilled or smart you are.
With all that being said, Restrict yourself purposefully sometimes. Don't grab that fast f1.2 or f1.4 glass this time when you head out. Don't even grab your best camera. Just head out with a setup that actually restricts you in some way, and learn to adapt. FED, Zorki, Canon, Nikon, Pentax, heck even a Vivitar. Grab whatever you use least, head out the door and start learning real street photography. By putting in the miles and putting in the time. That's the only way to learn real experience.
