One day in 1996, at the time a proud 16 yr old owner of an AR50, i was having a little wander around the local car dealers forecourt......having always had a thing for remembering numbers.....i noticed a sign in the window of a 'Rover Metro', priced at £2900......"you can own this car for only £20 per week !"......i thought even i could afford that on paper round and dog walking money.....not that i wanted or could drive a Metro. A few days later, going past the showroom, i notice what looks like a Brand new Aprilia RS125 Chesterfield Max Biaggi rep in the front window of this local car showroom......priced at £2900.....and being into bikes i pulled in for a look. so i'm in this showroom drooling over this bike.....It has 400 miles, is P reg, which in the new reg only 2 months old max.....and looks just as brand new close up as it should. The salesman (was a small garage owned by 2 brothers, who i'd spoke to loads of times being local and a big car fan) cant remember which brother it was, but he came over and started telling me he had taken it in part ex....against the Metro id seen a few days before, and had no idea about it or what it was worth....I knew brand new they were £4300 and there was a decent wait....we chatted for a while.....me dreaming about owning it....but knowing there was no way....then all of a sudden a thought popped into my head..... I said to the guy.....see that metro that was outside last week....for £2900....It had a sign in the window saying i could own it for £20 a week.....see this bike for £2900? could i own that for £20 a week? he said how old are you? im 16. He said if you can get your dad to come in and sign a piece of paper you can have it for £20 a week.......i was on the AR50 flying home as fast as i could. I'm not sure how, but my dad was easily convinced (as long as he could use it too).....so i dragged him to the garage. Got there, and apparently some bike dealer from miles away was trying to buy it, and offering a lot more, but coz he knew me and saw how much i wanted it he said if we promised him we wanted it we could have it........needless to say, 20 mins later 16 yr old me is driving my new 12hp RS125 home. The guy gave us the paperwork, and a plastic bag with a thing in it with masking tape on that said 'Rave Valve'. So me and me dad are at home looking thru the paperwork, and find the Rave valve fitting instructions.....apparently if we take out 2 bolts.....fit the thing in the bag.....and plug it in....we go from 12bhp to 33bhp.......we werent supposed to do it til 500 miles.....but were at over 400 miles so just went for it....quick test drive up the local dual carriageway showed a 110mph top end....hardest 3 months of my life waiting to turn 17 to ride it....put 4000 miles on it and sold it for more than i paid
you have the blade in the housing correct. but housing is upside down. :). if you want to set correct setting for blade. take exhaust back off. then shine torch up through exhaust port, you will see blade. have your assitant pull solinoid all the way in, and you watch blade. you want the blade to line up fully open with port (chamfered edge will be flush). then set cable from their. then check when assitant releases solinoid. otherwise the blade can hit piston, plus blade stem, or cables are forever snapping.
also the drilled ecu helps but its still crap midrange. get a zeeltronic programmable ecu. even at its stock settings it makes it a different bike. plus you really need the dellorto VHSB 34mm carb. as that VHST (28mm) is a proper pain to jet correcly. Hey mate thanks for the video it was very informative and well shot could see everything perfectly 👍 I have a 2002 Aprilia with a modified cdi and the valve installed. It was a track bike but I'm trying to get it road registered again. The start was interesting I'm just wondering where you got the actual Aprilia rs125 documentation from as I'd like to read it and see what parts etc that Aprilia recommends to use for De restriction. Please 😁
@@shahridz aprilia have 2 ecu, first is on the video this guy do it a hole, and for full power is a second ecu named 7800ducati and that means the 7800 ecu open the power valve at 7800 rpm
This is exactly what ive been lookin for!! Thank you very much,! Greetings from norway!! Did you get a red warning light in the dashboard after drilling the cdi? I would apresheate updatevideos on how she runs😁😁
Fantastic to hear 😁 hello! We did have a warning light before we got the power valve. There isn’t one now though. Battery was charged and fresh fuel in, its running (will be seen in my next track bike video) Waiting on some better weather and it’ll have an update 😁
If you install a 34 mm carb then you will get a red EFI light as there is no place to attach the TPS (throttle position sensor) onto the new 34 carb from the 28 carb (the TPS attached to top of old carb via the loom) and the CDI wonders what's going on so throws up a red light. Take the whole top part (black plastic) from the top of old 28 carb and ensure this is attached to the loom/cable as it was before and cable tie this to the frame. My light went out but have noticed that it does come on if I rev it to 11k. The TPS has no function and was an emissions thing so will not affect the bike if its not properly attached to anything once you have installed the 34 carb nor will you have any issues if you just leave the red light on other than its annoying. So to summarise with the old 28 carb set up you had a cable running off the loom and connecting to a plastic part on the top of 28 carb. Remove this from the 28 carb when you take the 28 carb out and tie it to frame then install the 34 carb.
If the bike is de-restricted without doing this mod to the cdi, there will be a FLAT spot at around 6k revs. Even the older bikes needed this done but in a slightly different way. I think it works by letting the ignition timing advance more in the higher revs.
Good one. Very informative. Could i not just remove some of the blank? I realise it would be in one position, but flow would be less restricted? Thank you brother.
You could, it would help the top end but you would lose a bit down the bottom. A bit of a restriction is good for low down torque, where as high flow is good for peak power. I believe it’s quite common for track bikes to have it wide open as they are always in the high RPM and it means there’s one less thing to potentially break

some older models have the blanking plate too. it depends what model and where you buy it from. the original rs's came with the power/exhaust valve and the 34mm carb too. them bikes was pushing nearly 34bhp. most of the restrictions placed (as well as power), was to meet eu. emmission laws. the power valve when shut i dont think is quite as shut as the blanking plate.....i think even closed the power valve makes more hp than blanking plate....but very similar
Anyone try the rave 2? (the mechanical powervalve that opens via exhaust gasses) I’m on a low budget, it’s cheaper and the reviews aren’t bad (though there are few). I’m still kind of worried about buying it because it says you have to drill a hole in the cylinder. Anyone have any experience?
I dont know if u still wondering about this, but the rave 2 valve works like a dream and super easy to tune! It really makes the bike alive :)
@@Andreas-oq7go Thanks alot, hope you don’t mind me asking, what kinds of mods are necessary for a full power bike? I see forums where people tell you to replace the entire axhaust system and some where you just drill the tune, install a valve and get a new carb. What’s really necessary in your opinion for a full power aprilia? mines a 2006 btw
@@mathiaswaardal4382 Np, in my bike I got a arrow expansion chamber, rave 2 valve, unrestricted cdi and original 28mm carb. I think about getting the 34, but the 28 works pretty good:)
So in my opinion a rave 2 valve, derestrict cdi and new exhaust is all u need. And some bigger jets in the carb. Maybe upgrade to a 34 later on :)
@@Andreas-oq7go Thank you, so a new axhaust is nessecary then? Also, some say you need a new spark plug after the cdi
What’s the significance of drilling the ecu?
It removes an emissions restriction
@@UnrestrictedIsle how??
@@t8283287 it breaks a connection on the circuit board - effectively flipping a switch to say go full power
what does full power mean for this RS type? 24/25 hp`?
28ish
the rave is mounted wrong
Where can I see the Aprilia notes ?

@@UnrestrictedIsle thanks so much for your help
Why does mine have like a rev limiter after 8rpm when I give it full gas?
Daniel Gecev same but mines 6rpm
Daniel Gecev because it is restricted
@@ventisette. mine is restricted but still revs to12,000 or whatever max is
5:42 Which is acutally the wrong way. Found it out today. lol
Ehi man, you mounted the valve in the wrong way, the facing must be down not up.
Dont put your pv in that way pleaseeeee. Needs to be turned 180
It has been corrected 😁
show it in action
Bike is long gone
@@UnrestrictedIsle good bike not gonna lie, i actually want to buy one soon, as im getting 16 in november, but in our local site theres only 1 125 2stroke😔 and i really hope noone will buy it so i could😅
@@emilsmorozs6473 could you not get it before and have it waiting?
@@UnrestrictedIsle i need to sell my rieju mrt 50 but noone will buy it when winter is coming
@@UnrestrictedIsle its great idea, but here end of october is the end of season and you cant do driving exams unfortunately
We italians know how to do our staff.....
Except spell.
@wink1980 Cool know build fast bikes/cars
Anyone in UK want a power valve system I get one 50 pds
yeah m8, i want it. If you send it to Ypres
All the aprilia jets are no good too rich for the 28 vhst
What jet would you recommend for the full power and the vhs28 carb.
Habla en español hombre !! Que somos muchos !!!
O por lo menos deja la traducción automatica tendrias mas oyentes 😀
Excelent, video. Short and on point, also fun :) link of the manual docgo.net/info-doc.html?
Can you de restrict a RS4 125 ?
Mine is well slow
It’ll be limited to make it learner legal
A tuner should be blue to map it, removing the timing restriction and increasing RPM
It won’t be a massive difference and will technically void your insurance
Honestly I’d save your money and get your licence sorted - a 125 will never be quick
@@UnrestrictedIsle Thanks mate !
What's the purpose of drilling the ecu??
I’ve installed the power valve but it doesn’t open do I need to drill the cdi to make it work?
I think the CDI drilling changes an electronic restriction - unsure if it is linked to power valve operation.
How do you know it isn’t opening?
@@UnrestrictedIsle I lifted the tank up reved it up to 7k and no movement whatsoever from the solenoid the solenoid is brand new everything power valve related is new from factory but no movement. I want the cdi mod anyway so I’ll do that hopefully it sorts it I’ll update you on that if it does
@@UnrestrictedIsle if it doesn’t work and my bikes got a faulty loom for the connector I’ll get the rave power valve and sell the solenoid one
@@UnrestrictedIsle I have good pull still like before from the restricted 15hp as that’s not bad but I was hoping I would get a working valve as it cost me 330quid
What does drilling the CDI unit actually do?
It activates the Power Valve.
Basically without the drill your power valvie wont move, but with it it does.
