Hi Pete. Ah Chopper Command that's a blast from the past! I think it's a great little Defender type game that as you say just changes it a little and just puts that Activision stamp on it. Those planes are a real pain the ass though! lol. I look forward to the next video Pete!
I think like many of the best 2600 games, it doesn't just directly adapt the original, but rework the concept to take proper advantage, and it shows. Especially with the lack of flicker or other detail. It's a really neat one which strikes some good fun. Though I can't help but feel it nabbed the title because there's no River Raid mentioned ;)
Chopper Command is a good Defender clone and is better than the Defender on the 'ole 2600. However, I will say that Defender II / Stargate is a tad bit better than this game. Still, there is lots of enjoyment to be had with this title and it is on my own personal list of favorite 2600 games.
I wanted that one, but didn't get it. I'm told the right controller is used for hyperspace, smart bombs and something else that was supposed to be a button.
There's elements of Defender in there, kind of. Honestly I can't look at Empire Strikes Back and not think of Jeff Minter's Attack of the Mutant Camels, though, since I played that before I knew ESB existed :)

Would you call _The Empire Strikes Back_ a Defender-clone? It's a left-right scroller and shooter. I like it better than Defender and Chopper Command.
