Thank you for the detailed explanation in your last response. I wanted to clarify how to use Poison Mist while defending with Diamond Defense 2 (DD2). If I understand correctly, DD2 is primarily focused on using the bag to block knife strikes and maintain distance. The Poison Mist seems to be more of a psychological tactic, using unpredictable movements to confuse or discourage the attacker from fully committing to their strikes. So, when I’m using DD2 to block, I could incorporate Poison Mist by making my movements more erratic and less predictable-adding circular or off-angle swings with the bag after each block to keep the attacker guessing. This way, I’m combining the solid defense of DD2 with the unpredictability of Poison Mist to throw off their rhythm and discourage further attacks. One more thing-what should my footwork look like when combining these techniques? Should I keep moving away from the attacker as I block with the bag and swing randomly, or is there a better approach to positioning myself while doing this?"
Thank you for your comment, questions, and interest! When using the DD with the Poison Myst since both hands are on the bag you can't really do a Blender or Boxing combo. So then you will be doing a Flail but with 2 hands instead of one. This needs to be practiced. If never done it's gonna be a bit awkward, my double sticks free flow training includes hands close together grip which would be similar to holding a Defense bag. The general idea for the footwork is to step back, but incorporating Poison Myst really helps if you have some sparring experience even if it's light sparring (actually light sparring is better so you guys don't get hurt). You make it look like you are gonna attack or that you are committed to bashing their head off but in reality your footwork doesn't take you forwards or commits you into a bad position. In traditional FMA (Filipino Martial Arts) there is something called the Floating Foot. The lead leg is light like a Muay Thai Kickboxer, where they know you are coming for that leg so they keep it nimble and light as bait, some Wrestlers use a similar idea to counter the Single and Double leg takedowns.
