    Farming is not just another job. It is a life commitment of hard work, big disappointments, with a few great uplifts. But I am telling you, by God its the best life on this world, for the farmer, his wife and especially the kids. Thank you you people for all you do to feed this country and a big part of the rest of the world.

    I love this so much, my grandfather had Cranberry bogs down in Plymouth in the 70's and 80's. We also had hay fields, corn and pumpkins, depending on what my grandfather thought he could sell. Massachusetts farming has a deep history that alot of people dont understand. The money is in dry picked, it is sold as fruit, not juice, the dry picking process is a tedious pain in the ass and the equipment is antiquated to say the least. The bog is considered a wetland and you can't do anything with it, went down this road.

    Obviously based on an early comment, not everyone is a fan of the hard working family farmer just trying to make a living. Duffy is a good steward of the land & the family’s animals with a shitload more patience than most of for the struggles that come from farming. Keep on keeping on!

    • @M60A3
      @M60A3 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The patience thing is so true: my dad had damaged a rod on our soybean header because of a rock and he wasn’t looking enough for it cause he was dumping on the go with my grandfather driving the grain cart and then he made a sign to my dad and he looked at the rod and stopped the header to go outside to see it closer and when he went back inside the cab, he was so angry that he slammed shut the door fast enough to break it, i was at school and he told me that I think on messenger and took video of it, the thing was that he had to continue harvesting so he made a door with a plywood and a hold on it where he putted a plexiglass, we have it in our shed!

When the tractor was leaning into the ditch brought back memories of my dad I use to ride on the back of the tractor holding onto his shoulders when he mow it was a great time. Leaning the other way while the tractor leaned into the ditch. I would laugh and have the best time.

    Bruv y’all need an apiary (bees) on your farm, even if you don’t need them for the bogs anymore. They’re incredible for improving yields, not just flowers/fruits/veggies. I started out beekeeping on a pecan orchard and even the hay meadows were happier. Awesome video!

    Enjoyed the history lesson on some of your families earlier farming practices. Some people think all they have to do is go down to the grocery store and pick up a package of food. They don't have a clue as to how much time and physical labor goes into getting those cranberries, vegetables, steaks, or those gallons of milk onto the grocery shelves. I really like your videos so keep making them. Maybe some of those people that hasn't a clue as to what all a farmer does in the course of a day will watch and learn where their food actually comes from. Thanks!!!!1

    I still drink cranberry juice for taste as well as medicinal . Back ache , urinary track kidneys hurt that stuff will flush you out . Its great in salads as well as a snack . Wish I could come up there and run the bat wing for you . Miss doing that and I wouldn't need a cab since I never had one before lol . Canopy's are nice for a little shade . Thanks for the info on them did not know what went into them . 6 years thats a long term investment for sure . on dikes like that I loved to just let the mowers float did a good job and of course raise them when needed . Useing the water mist to help keep them from freezing is a lot like the citrus crops here in Florida .

  • @philipingram1667
    @philipingram1667 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Good info on cranberries - here in the CA Central Valley when a freeze is anticipated, the farms leave the sprinklers or drip systems on so the trees or vines will not freeze. In the late 80s, they had a bad freeze and buried the vines so they would not freeze - set them back but they did live. As to the knuckleheads who think food comes from a grocery store, don't worry about them - you have enough else important stuff going on. Keep up the good work

    Live in Middleboro cranberries had there high around 2008 $60 barrel since then the market has mostly crashed. hovering around $25-30 a barrel. The land is more valuable for housing if it's upland. If not most are returning to swamps. Kind of sad here south of Boston most farms are gone now. Only 1 dairy farm left in my town.

    Lmao, your opening comment reminds me of a story, my daughter had a friend stay over a couple years ago, I asked what she likes to eat for dinner. She said "chicken", so that's what I made. After making her a plate, all of a sudden she says "eeewwww it has skin on it!". A few bites later she says "omg there's bones in it" and starts gagging. She asked what I gave her! She actually did not know that chickens were birds, her family only ever ate boneless skinless breast before! Btw, she was 18 years old at the time and thought that farming was unnecessary

He will sit and whine by my chair or try to climb in my lap and he weighs 150lbs. So we talk in code very careful what we say and just when you think he is asleep, guess what? He heard you.

    You do you Chris, these tree huggers have a way of life. Instead of living it they want to push there beliefs on everyone. But that’s the problem in this country, liberals feel like they know best for everyone and if you don’t go along with them, then your a problem.
    If I want organic food I’ll raise it on my own. If I want organic meat, I’ll go hunting and harvest a animal for conservation n pure organic. But I won’t push my beliefs on my neighbor, I’ll respect there’s as long as they respect mine. A family member has about 1k acres here in southern Michigan and there doing soybeans n corn. Need to catch up with them to see how many they have now. They started out with 400 or so after his grandfather passed and has leased more land.
