Spike, that's what I was thinking for the past 27 hours since seeing the film. How did he do that shot? When you asked that question, I was caught--"knowing"--exactly what you meant. And so did he. I mean, he had a dolly going from the beach out into the ocean. w-t-f-man!?! Spike's beautiful launch into that, and the director knowing, too, what he meant. Thank goodness for this film to show the new possible--building a pier! wow.

z z the academy will probably give it to Glenn Close for The Wife (6 times nominated, she is owed.) plus, avaricious doesn’t have plans to stay in Hollywood, wanting to become a school teacher. But as long as Roma wins Best Picture, that will mean that at least foreign cinema is accepted a lot more within America hopefully. It’s still the best film of the past year, so I want it to win.

Believe me, you will have an indescribable experience, feeling, when you see the shot that Cuarón is explaining. Because in that moment you comprehend the reason of why he had to do this movie. It's a personal moment where he puts together the love of the humanity in one single shot. But it's still his moment, and unintentionally, he puts all of us there.
My face deformed and I started to cry, and cry, because I was watching something beyond beautiful. The composition of the shot is absolutely... pure. The direction, the performances, the photography, all this conjugated to serve to Cuarón memories.

Hey! I was an extra in that scene! (was one of the People in the street) and although I cant really tell you about the part in the Shop (because i wasnt really in that set) I do can talk about what was going on down in the street. The actual masacre was a real event in México (called "El Halconazo") where Los Halcones (a military group) attacked students that were protesting... Saying that, I thought it was quite difficult to recreate even if the whole moment was seen from above, because we had like 2 days of rehearsal so we could know how the halcones would atack us... And we where told we were going to be shooting 3 days, but the shooting just lasted 2 days. It was quite intense, because we began shooting in the first light of day, until dawn. I cant really tell you how many takes there were, but there were quite a lot...

      Min 36:23 to 45:47, aprox.
In another interview, Cuarón said that he asked Gwyneth Paltrow and Ethan Hawke to do a nude scene and they didn't want to do it, because they consider that, for this kind of movies, that nudes are done only in independent ones, so Cuarón said it was absurd that way of approaching the art of acting. I'm not so sure about Ethan saying that, but maybe more sure about Paltrow.
I think that in some way he didn't enjoy to work with them, and I am guessing, because he has never said anything about both actors. Anything about how was the process with them.
Well, It's part of the things I remember from that interview. If you find some more facts about the reasons he didn't enjoy at all filming Great Expectations, please, write me back 😅.

Alfonso Cuaron as Inarritu and Del Toro are underrated just cause they are Mexicans... Movies like "Roma"." Amores perros", "Pan's Labyrinth"...are MASTERPIECES. They are literally changing the way to film, to make movies. But everyone is talking about Nolan, Finch, Cohen, etc...

Not sure what you mean by underrated, if is because they're not making blockbusters? They don't need to, Cuaron made a black and white, Spanish speaking movie based in a Mexican family lead by a mixteca woman and distributed/streamed by an American company no underrated director could ever even imagine to do that.
