In journey to the west, Erlang was the divinity heaven called in to help subdue wukong. And though I am still listening to the journey to the west audio book, he is the only one who has actually matched wukong in battle.
They became friends during their first battle. In the fight, Wukong used his transformations to convey meaning and message to Erlang and Erlang replied using appropriate transformations. Erlang managed to save most of the monkeys left in Mount HuaGuo and 500 years later, Sun Wukong came and thanked Erlang for saving his people. Erlang really enjoyed that fight and viewed Sun Wukong as a great rival and the only other person that can match his combat prowess.

@@mrblack6439 90% of Yellow Loong's difficulty is that you fight him in a tiny ass space with weird, uneven dimensions tbh Yellow Loong took over a dozen tries. Final story boss, third try
That's certainly one way to interpret Sun Wukong's original form as the Stone Monkey, a veritable kaiju in the original story before he tempered his form into the one we know nowadays with proper magical teachings and maybe a bit of severed tail action.
The good news is if you "lose" the four kings fight it puts you back at the start of the fight. The fight glitched for me and I couldn't move at all after defeating 3 of them, waiting 20 minutes for the last to deplete my health, either the game glitching meant I couldn't lose or you just can't lose in general, I had to turn the game off and on but at least I didn't need to fight Erlang again.
This transformation fight between Sun Wukong and Erlang Shen was already in the original novel written in 16th century. It happened during their first encounter on the battlefield.
Just beat this boss today and in all honesty one of the most hardest bosses to fight in general to the point I can see why it's capable of breaking anybody that's trying to defeat it or I should say him technically
I'm suprised so many people think the shell is harder or equal to erlang. the first time i fought the shell i tore it apart with little difficulty. it felt like a joke after taking in erlang. it wasn't until new game plus that the shell actually push med hard, so maybe on new game plus 2 it'll be the toughest boss. Can't wait to be able to use the wukong stance in new game plus 3
Eh... They're about the same difficulty wise. Erlang has a lot of bullshit going for him, but the FINAL boss straight up just loves disrespecting you, and his final phase takes all your relics and straight up nerfs you.
after watching Mandjtv play Minecraft for the first time, i was hoping you two would play it. the chaos that would be either you two pissing each other off by, say, destroying each other's houses; or you two scrambling for a secure spot to recover because a monster - or the Ender Dragon - has kicked your arse. that's a series i'd watch - and hopefully you'll get as far as defeating the Ender Dragon.
Um.... quick note: Before Josh became a MH youtuber his main content was Minecraft, so Im pretty sure he has finished it in all kinds of ways. I would also not be surprised if Cotton already played it, as its pretty old and hard to miss.

The first time I beat this fucker I nearly broke a controller or two. Then in new game plus it was trivialized by the bull king armor and the staff that scales directly with your defense. I was able to smash through his armor with the stick twirl . Great fight though.
Erlang is tougher than ANY Souls boss I've fought. Dude is just a mix of unfair and cheap attacks. And his GRABS are fuckin STUPID. Dude breaks Rock Solid, grabs you out of Rock Solid, breaks your transformations, breaks out of immobilize or throws it back at you, knocks you out of charge attacks, etc. If you use a bane on him he uses that PLUS his thunder bane. Hes ridiculous

After the fight, Destined One punched Erlang and instead of anger or defeat, Erlang actually smiled. Why? Because his best friend is finally back.
You can actually use the Azure Dust transformation against him. He considers it a joke and won't bother seriously attacking or de-transforming you like he does the other forms and the hits you do to him will deal massive damage to his guard.
new game plus trivialized him for me as well. the first run was the tough one for sure, but interestingly enough the shell feels much harder with each new game plus run.

Both Erlang and Wukong were both known as rebels and causing mischief of the celestial court. Erlang knew Wukong on a personal level.

15:51 this same thought is what almost soured the experience for me. thankfully I told my brain to shut up and enjoy the moment because it is awesome
For anyone wondering, from my understanding Erlang was, in fact, very fighty in JTTW as well.
The only boss that had me sitting at the spark reallocator trying to figure out what approach would work best.
It took me 4 days to finally figure it out and probably 6 different loadout changes
Erlang and Sun Wukong are actually best of friends.
17:31 in the mountain range you were in. You’re just giant now so the mountains look tiny.
The fact that Erlang’s bestial form is a fat, portly lion thing is just weirdly funny to me.
The fact he WILL side step your heavy attack is crazy😂😂
