I think each Pikmin game doesn't do Pikmin better/worse then the previous. Each one feels like it sets out to provide its own unique flavor of Pikmin. I loved 4 but I do feel like I would prefer multiple Captains over Oatchi. I also realize they needed Oatchi to be a simpler/easier system to pickup then multiple Captains. There's also a general lack of Horror or Unsettling stuff in 4 where that's a pretty big staple of Pikmin 1 and more so Pikmin 2. Love this video! Always glad to see more lil' Pikmin channels cropping up.
Each one really does, I think since having 1 and 2 originally on GameCube I’ve compared them to the previous entry, which doesn’t help them shine on their own. I appreciate Oatchi and I wish we got an amiibo of it. Yeah that is a huge staple in 1 and 2, even how Smokyprogg looks in the first one, it looks less menacing in 4, but I still enjoy its design. Thank you!
My only real gripe with Pikmin 4 is that when you killa ll of the enemies in the overworlds, thats it. They dont respawn. It takes away some of the replayability of it and honestly makes the game feel like a wasteland. Why'd they even go with that when the other games don't?
I noticed that as well because I wanted to try and see what the max amount of Pikmin. I guess to try and force you underground where the enemies respawn?
In my opinion, Pikmin 4 suffers because it's so "game-y" and the difficulty was too easy. Pikmin 3's captain system was much more amazing in my opinion, and if they simply added the option to give captains some basic abilities (much like how you can command the dog) it'd of been better. The dandori battles while cool, take me out of the immersion a lot, and the same can be said for the caves. Pikmin 3 felt very immersive in its gameplay, the natural caves (while small) were really nice, the environments didnt have much human elements and so felt way more organic (I didn't really like any of the human-focused areas of the game personally, Pikmin to me was about the nature element, and I feel like this game leaned too heavily into the "we're on earth" portion). (Also in my opinion the music in Pikmin 3 is considerably more memorable.) Overall, I would say that the amount of handholding in Pikmin 4 is what killed it the most for me. While I did enjoy the game, the over-the-top aimlocking (which was often actually annoying), the weak-feeling enemies, the fact caves told you what pikmin you SHOULD bring, the lack of stakes and urgency, oatchi, the fact a lot of the "puzzles" felt way too boxed in and inorganic, it all just took me out of the immersion and made the game less compelling. I would still argue that Pikmin 3 (on the WiiU) is the best version of Pikmin that's been released. I actually find it unlikely we'll ever see a more difficult Pikmin game either. When Nintendo released Pikmin 3 Deluxe, a lot of changes were made to make the game easier, and even playing on the max difficulty was still easier than the WiiU version, which is kind of sad. All that being said, I do agree with the points in your video, and I appreciate the simple delivery of your message! It's a nice change from most content on here.
I agree with Pikmin 4 being too easy, I think they (most likely Miyamoto) wanted to have the series appeal to all ages and thrive, instead of just being a niche series. Dandori is fun, but I understand how it can take away from the main game, I think its due to the environments of the Dandori battles, if they were all themed around the area they are in, I think it would have felt more captivating. I do think the handholding was too much and Ive always thought that sequels should ask in game if they are familiar (however they would phrase it in each game) with the series and if the player selects yes, they can skip the tutorials. I would enjoy a difficult Pikmin game, like 2, but you are right, I think the series will be overall easier and it would be nice to incorporate a difficulty setting. Thank you! I appreciate the kind words and your well written response.
Maybe it’s the worst. I go back and forth on it. I think the story in 4 is fine, maybe the weakest and not having Olimar in the next game might give Nintendo more ideas instead of just rescuing someone or having someone in peril.

Good analysis. Well done.
Thank you kindly!

Just gonna be a nerd here you said Pikmin 3 and deluxe have the difficulty options but only deluxe does not the original

i like oatchi!
I do too, but he is just a tank!
I currently feel like Pikmin 1 is the worst.
What makes you feel that 1 is the worst?
@@NicOlimar There is only 3 Pikmin types to choose from. Although Pikmin 4 might be the worst in story.
@@NicOlimar For me... it's the "time pressure" in 1 that makes it my least favorite

I enjoy it, but not when I first played it. I’m glad they pretty much removed that concept with the rest of them, 3 has it but not to the same degree.
